People have given great introductions to the members of PTX but I'd just like to add a little more about Kevin Olusola. He's the beatboxer of the group. He also plays the cello, piano, saxophone, and has a beautiful tenor voice with quite a large range which he had vocal training to improve. His voice is very stable and clear and I've yet to hear a crack or any kind of mistake when he sings. He has a KZbin channel called Kevin Olusola, his name, and I think you'd enjoy his covers he posts on there. Some extra facts about him is that he graduated from Yale and is fluent in Mandarin. I just thought he needed a little more explanation besides a guy that can play the cello and beatbox at the same time.

I’m glad you made this post. As was said when they were on “the sing-off” Avi and Kevin have been the meat and potatoes of the group, without them and their unique voices and extra talents, there would be no base for their arrangements. Thank you for sharing all of Kevin’s great facts that not many know.

Everyone's already pointed out Surperfruit, but Avi (the former bass) has a solo album, Kirstie was on Broadway in Kinky Boots last year (don't know if there's any official video from that) and Kevin has a beatboxing/ cello solo project which is really cool. I saw them live in Berlin a few years ago and I was stunned at the cello coming out of nowhere and how freaking good it was. Tbh, I am not too familiar with the new bass guy yet (other than inevitably noticing how handsome he is). the end.

Scott refers to himself as a baritone, but he has an incredible range. Melodies are often in the tenor range so we hear that a lot from him, but he also covers the base whenever Avi sings lead such as happens in 'Hallelujah.' To really appreciate this you should react to Scott Hoying's cover of 'I Should Tell Ya Momma on Ya' by Red, wherein he jumps from tenor to base and back rapidly and repeatedly while also providing a complicated beat via his hand against his chest. It's impressive. Here's a link to the live A Capella studio recording: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqmVnnhtrrSHm9k

People say Scott is a baritone because that's his official place in PTX. What he actually is, is ridiculous. His official position is baritone, but he takes over the bass line if the bass is singing lead and it they need a second high harmony when Kirstie or Mitch are singing lead, no problem, Scott's here for that too. He generally uses falsetto for these, of course. And apparently, he's been working on his whistle too :D. Maybe it's a joke and he's still not quite there, but he's actually improved, so there's that :D. This is a great reaction though, very informative. As you generally are, anyway. Oh, btw, they are on world tour now and they'll come to Europe probably sometimes next year as a part of it. Just in case you wanted to see them live :). I would be happy to just see you react to more PTX in general :D. Maybe Evolution of Ariana Grande? That would be cool :).

Scott Hoying is the guy in the middle. They have a new bass guy, Matt. Both Mitch and Scott have their own separate music duo called Super Fruit! Kevin Olusola is the beatboxed and he has his own albums out where he beatboxes/sings and plays the cello at the same time! Kirstin is the girl and she does musicals as well but I think Kevin is really the only one beside Super Fruit that has his own music out! You should do a semi long video where you go through clips of each one of them and analyze their voices! You should also listen to their cover Sorry Not Sorry because Mitch hits like the highest note I’ve ever heard from a male close to the end! ❤️❤️

Actually in the 1800s they referred to Beethoven's 5th symphony and he was one of the Vienna Classics, so you were right saying that it was classical era, not romantic, as Beethoven (the youngest from 3 composers in the Vienna Classics next to Haydn and Mozart) was one of them :)

And he died in 1827 ;) Weber is said to be composer of romantic era and he died in 1826. So I guess all of these dates just blended together back then :) The music development then was HUGE so some of the things are hard to say :)

I actually live on the same block as Beethoven and Schubert's graves and it's always interesting to hear what other people have learned about them. I'm pretty sure Beethoven officially belongs to the Romantik period but I guess all the dates are quite blurry

@@maeraich5423 He officialy belongs to Classical period according to all textbooks from history of music that I own and all the teachers and professors through all 15 years of my musical education as a classical musician :) But yes, dates are blurry. And as I said above he was one of the biggest developers and precursors in the music history, so some of his works belongs to romantic era as well and music without his influence wouldn't be as it is today.

I totally agree with you! I go to a really old singing school and have a lot of music history lessons and they literally refuse to talk about anything modern. It's always: Gregorian chants, middle ages, renaissance, baroque, classic, romantic, impressionism and expressionism and then they just stop there. I have asked why we couldn't get more into jazz music evolution or things like that and they just say that it's not in the school's interest and blah blah blah. I really enjoy classical music but I want to learn about modern things as well...

Impressionistic music and expressionitic music isn't a thing in music, they fall under the romantic time period with Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Mahler, Stravinsky etc. The terms impressionist and expressionism more conotative with art history around the modern and post modern eras. Not contemporary aka. 21st century ish

Mitch Grassi ( the guy in the top left corner) is a tenor and everyone always gets blown away with his crazy, effortless vocals. Scott Hoying ( the guy in the middle) I believed was a baritone but now that you point out that he is a tenor I question life, but anyways he is the main singer of the group and has amazing riffing and running skills which everyone loves. Kirstin Maldonado ( the only girl) is a soprano I believe and she recently released an EP called L O V E. She made music videos for a few of her beautiful, original songs on her channel, kirstin. She has the voice of a gorgeous pop star and controls her voice very well. Avi Kaplan ( the guy in the bottom left corner) is a bass and always drives the ladies crazy with his deep, low voice. He also sings on a few of their songs, and he has an amazing voice. Sadly, he left the group about a year ago to persue a solo career. His newly formed band is called Avriel & the Sequoias, which is not an acapella band. Matt Sallee has become the new bass of Pentatonix and he is killing it so far. He just recently joined the group, but he is getting along amazingly with everyone as you can see in PTXperience. He has a different voice than Avi, so the group had to change their style of music a bit, but they sound equally as great as before. Matt is an amazing bass and also has a beautiful voice. Kevin Olusola ( the guy on the bottom right corner) is a beatboxer. He blows everyone away with his crazy, in-human sounds that come from his mouth. It amazes me how effortless he can do such insane things. He also has his own channel, Kevin Olusola, where he covers songs with his beautiful singing voice and plays the cello. He does crazy things on his channel, you just have to see for yourself, he's nuts. Pentatonix has won 3 grammies, their first being Daft Punk, second being Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and third being Jolene featuring Dolly Pardon. Mitch and Scott share a channel, Superfruit, where they cover songs, and have recently been making original songs along with amazing music videos, which are not acapella. Their voices together are perfect, and they have been BFF's since they were 10 years old. Pentatonix won the Sing Off in 2011, Season 3. Ever since then they have been releasing music and showing their beautiful relationship off to the whole world. They are now going on world tours, with sold out tickets. They are the #1 acapella group as of now. They also have hilarious personalities and their bond is un-breakable. They are the perfect group of voices and the perfect group of best friends.
