Sometimes I complain about being so old (71) but then I hear songs like this one again and realize how truly blessed I am to have grown up at a time when these amazing artists were performing. Saw so many amazing concerts from the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Heart, Lynyrd Skynyrd Fleetwood Mac and so many others and wouldn't change a day of my time on my great musical experience journey. Makes the aches and pains worth it. 😃✌🤗 Love your reactions Beth. You are so informative, never preachy or condescending. Bless you.

LOVE Paul Rogers, LOVE Queen but have to disagree on the Queen collab. I really didn’t feel they were well suited. George Michael’s and Adam Lambert I thought nailed it, I guess because they were coming more from the same direction as Freddie. I don’t mean sexually, though that might have been a factor but they brought that bombastic thing that Freddie had. I never appreciated either much until I heard them with Queen but then it was just a kick in the gut!

Approaching retirement age I know I was blessed to have been a Teenager when Free & many other great bands and solo artists were releasing their first albums and singles and touring the U.K. but equally well I remember how sad it was to read about how Free were falling apart due to their talented Guitarists drug addictions and increasingly incapability to play and why they didnt go on to record more and I cant but feel there are several albums and many great songs missing from their discography because of it BUT what is truly amazing is how good a singer Paul Rodgers was and remains one of the best U.K. blues singers to grace international stages with which ever Band he sang in. Me I wasn't a huge fan of Bad Company although I bought all their albums. I just felt they missed that unique special ingredient Kossoff gave Free and the chemistry that was unique to the 4 of them. A shame that so few live stage performances were captured in high quality video of Free at their peak.

The Bad Company rabbit hole is a deep one. Even their stuff after Paul Rodgers left the band are worthy of a listen, but the albums with Rodgers are simply classic. Many are definitely in my top 50 best albums of all time (Bad Company, Desolation Angels and Straight Shooter for sure).

Nice reaction. I didn’t know about the book you referenced however, Rodgers is a smart, well read man… there are just too many references to events involving Jesse and Frank James lives during and after the Civil War to make these coincidentally appear in the song. This is one of the “stay on the car until the song ends” songs we all loved but, I gotta say, this live, when they’re older, is even better to me!1

You have to check out Paul Rogers with Queen doing part of his song Reaching Out and then breaking into Tie Your Mother Down. Paul Rogers at his finest.

Suggestion: try the band Gentle Giant, they did a few accapella song with incredible harmonies. Try On reflection by them (studio version) or Knots (really strange vocal song). And if love vocal performances, try Arrow by Van der Graaf Generator.
