And he’s also really great for providing information about how things are done - why they’re done well or not, and when he does critique, he’s never negative. Seriously, he reacted to and critiqued a video of the worst Idol performances. Never once did he get negative or mean, but he did provide helpful critiques. At times I think she's great, but to my ear she does way too much of the easy sounding, low effort harsh vocals. It's probably just a tolerance I've built up, but if I don't hear the strain it doesn't do it for me. I love the desperate sound when a vocalist puts everything they have into it. Caro from Oathbreaker is a good example of a female vocalist who does this.

This is also the first youtube vocal instructor whose videos I've watched who really focuses on technique, and actually offers thoughtful critique instead of just reacting. Whether you love or hate the music style/genre, (I like Metal, but I am not a fan of that particular type of vocal; though I like this song a lot), the one thing that’s evident: the lady is talented. She has complete control of her voice and I respect, admire and am entertained by that. I catch myself smiling when I hear this song. There are a few other Jinjer songs that I also similarly enjoy. I've been hoping this one would come around, especially after Kingdom made it to the channel. I'm no musician myself, but over the past couple of years I've found myself fascinated with musical techniques in my sort of personal quest to discover WHY I like the music I do, and am so resistant to other types. I've seen lots of channels discussing instrumentation, but up until I stumbled onto your channel, there has always been a void in learning about vocals and what goes into them. Fascinating material. I have a feeling I will be spending a lot more time here.

What do you mean by "go crazy". Does unknown music make you feel uncomfortable? Sorry for asking but I've never heard of this before.
@warhoofdje22276 жыл бұрын
Well, the part of my brain where speech is being controlled is not okay. That part of my head is what sometimes has a short circuit which leads to epileptic seizures. If my brain can not properly estimate what is coming (for example, a transition in speeding up the rhythm, increasing the volume), then it gets confused. I do not get an seizure but feel very bad for a while. My brain shuts of a little, different kind of awareness/consciousness until everything is settled down again. I might stare for a while, words are hard to find. People with epilepsy can be triggered by flashy images. I have this more with sound. For example, I can handle the intensity of Chop Suey because my brain knows what is coming. But when this girl all of a sudden started growling my brain got confused. But it went all right! I did stop the video just in case, but I was proud of my brain. Hard-core, some heavy metal is just not do-able. I used Google translate to explain. I hope you understand.

Izzy Ridiculous amounts of coaching. Basically how untrained people think you growl, is not how professionals growl. Same sound but using a completely different vocal shape that you would think. Nothing is pushed or forced, and then it’s just endurance. It takes a long time to really master, and recovery is key.

I use a lot of this analysis and the tips to help my ESL students learn English. Sure, we're not singing per se, but so many of the notes about mouth position and tone and, well all of it, really helps them feel more comfortable with their pronunciation. It helps SO much.

Stephanie The Teacher English is such a tricky language to learn. Love your approach ☺️
@jaydobbelvem50076 жыл бұрын
Hello Stephanie, could you expand on that? I'm a math teacher, so i'm not well versed in tactics with ESL students. Just have a lot of them :)
@user605506 жыл бұрын
math (and language). i think the most effective approach is making sure the basics are understood. When you have that "doe in the headlights" look, even on one student, you've gone past the immediate comprehension. Repeating the method, like trying to use your tongue to differentiate between an r and l, will never be correct, until it's understood. Same with math, knowing which step is next, is the absolute critical point to progressing, if your students don't know whether to process inside parantheses 1st or last, you cannot move to anything more difficult for that student.
@jaydobbelvem50076 жыл бұрын
@user60550, hehe... Thank you, I do agree with your assesment of "doe in the headlight" and not to proceed beyond that point ;) And in my failings, i dont quite understand your point on r an I. Where I come from, we specialize in 2-4 subjects (math, english, social studys etc.), and learn everything about that. So I have no understanding of how to teach a foreign language. Yet my students don't speak the native language of my country, yet they are expecting to attend other classes such as math. But what I was inquiring Stephanie about, was her methods using Sam Johonson teachings. The reason is because my math students exam is oral, where they have to be able to pronounce mathematical terms, and names. I already introduce music in geometri, so it wouldn't be a stretch to expand on it to include vocal technics. And music is international, so everyone has opinions and knowledge about it.

I like you are deviating from only pop music lately, if you wanna see something amazing you should react to Ever Dream by Nightwish live at Wacken 2013 ( LISTEN ALL THE WAY TO THE END TRUST ME) , the singer is floor Jansen she's a metal singer that has been around since the late 90's and a vocal coach herself, that song shows a little portion of what she can do she's capable of doing anything from high belting, head voice(operatic), soft, growling, anything. Other songs are Storytime (shows her rocky voice, operatic and high belting at the end), Ghost Love Score (lasts 10 minutes but is the most dynamic one), Greatest Show on Earth ( lasts almost 20 minutes) .... Anyway whichever one you choose make sure you listen all the way to the end, she likes to end flashy.
