You are one of the KZbin great cooks who has noticed what a wonderful recipe this is and what a great cook (and everything else) Imstillworkin is. On your recommendation and that of Aunt Duddie, I tried this and it is in fact the very best! Thanks so much to all of you lovely ladies.

Deb, I just have to say... I can't imagine where we'd be without you. I'm a single mother of 1 daughter and my aging mother on our ranch in TX panhandle. I'm no Betty Crocker! I found you about 6-9 months ago, started prepping and have approx. 2 years set back. I'd be lost without your simple instructions. As a domestically challenged person in the cooking department you were sent straight from Heaven for me. I watch your vids over and over and write explicit instructions. Please don't stop!!

This is Philippines sweet and sour sauce and we used it to fish, chicken, pork, shrimp and beef cubes. I'm surprised that you know this recipe, :) you did good.

The sauce is not only the best thing I've ever tried - but the batter for the meat is OUTSTANDING! I used canned pork that I had - haven't even tried chicken yet - but even my pickiest eaters at this - - - my friend's kids won't eat peppers so she uses green beans instead - - - it's all good!!!

I took that same idea but converted it to a lip smacking orange sauce, yum, yum. Same amnt of brwn sugar, white sugar, 5Tbs cornstarch, 1tsp ginger, 1tsp garlic pwder, 1 can chicken broth, 1/2c.vinegar, 4Tbs soy sauce, 3-4Tbs Orange Juice or juice from small can mandarin oranges plus 2 tsp orange extract. Can adjust to your taste. Garnish with green onions and red pepper:) If your hubby likes oranges at all he will absolutely love this recipe. Makes 2-3pints. Enjoy. Thank you for all your videos.

Thanks so much for this recipe. Finally found a recipe that is just to our tastes, and SO EASY. I only had katchup, so, used that instead. When tasting I realized it was strong enough to add 4 cups water and another half cup water, for a 4 x recipe. I am quite sure I will end up with at least 12 pints sauce, enough to enjoy for a long time. It was so easy, using ketchup, to thin the flavor down add clearjel and end up with more sauce to can. I love easy recipes. But they gotta taste good, and this sure does, thanks so much

regular clear gel not instant clear gel for canning. Instant clear gel is good for one heat up .. but when canning you are going thru the heating process then when you prepare it for supper it goes thru another heating process . Instant can become thinner when heated too many times the regular clear gel doesn't . hope this helps someone. I know I did one canning with instant before finding this out... LOL

I will be trying this... but i will have to augment the recipe a bit. I am allergic to tomatoes and apples. I will sub in some of my home made canned plum sauce and I can reduce the sugar and use normal vinegar and that should work just fine! I know my plum sauce has some vinegar in it so it will compensate for the acidity of the tomato. Some times we have to adjust a recipe to make it work.

yes we do. Sounds like you really know what your doing. :)

Hi Deb, I love your site. We here in Maine are also preparing also for when SHTF. I have a wonderful recipe I perfected for sweet n sour sauce that is reminiscent of what the sauce used to taste like back in the 70's and 80's, when the restaurants made it homemade. It doesn't involve ketchup or tomato sauce. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, they have a special place in my cooking just not in my sweet n sour sauce:) I would love to share the recipe with you, didn't know if I could here.

Also add 1/3 cup lemon juice. The lemon and orange combined do what the cherry juice and pineapple juice do for the sweet and sour.

I didn't know you could use clear gel when canning. Last weekend I made Asian Plum Sauce. I've been looking for different things to can to prevent food fatigue.

whoops, mistype......when I 4x the recipe, using ketchup, I added 4 cups water and half a cup of CLEAR JELL, taste is wonderful. The ketchup intensified the flavor enough to thin it down and thicken it up again for more jars on the shelf, flavor is still great.

Do you use the Regular or the Instant ClearJel ?

Deb, what size can of pinapple did you use? That looks soon good.

I think its just a 15-16 oz one.

No! You need clear Jel. Corn starch will make it very very runny. Clear Jel is best.
