Good stuff, I have a jetta 12v vr6 that I need to put an oil pressure gauge in. Now I know how to access the housing, great vid!

I have used Castrol lubricants for 45 years. I even use Edge in my lawn mower. I have never had an engine problem even at high mileage. Castrol is now owned by B.P. in the US and since the huge oil spill in the gulf I hesitate every time I pour it in my engine.

never used Edge before but based on your experience I'm sure it will do great. I didn't realise they were owned by BP.

I like the idea of changing the sensors now since it's easy to do. That oil is on sale up here this week for $32 . Cheers

It's always the best option on that car. Tighter than a nun's cricket bat in there. That oil is usually $82.50 here, think I paid $50 on special.... which is $45 CAD so just a 6 pack of beer different

Hey fella, quick question; is this a Aaa 12v vr6? Can not aquire the PN for the gasket on a 24v, and yours has no attached oil cooler. Just wondering what the variation is.

Was this leak the one that you had in your “finding oil leaks” part 1 and part 2? I have an AFP 12V VR6 and I’m trying to find an oil leak :(

Gah! I love that oil! Sadly, they don't sell a 5w40 in the US in the Extended Performance; only in the basic Edge in the black container. Your oil filter looks a hell of a lot better than mine did! LOL

Valvoline is normally better value and I'm a big fan of their oil. 10W-40 is my weapon of choice on the VR6, interested to see how it goes on this stuff. The Castrol stuff comes in weird grades in this country Haha the filter looks great, thought I'd chuck that in there just for you!

Badgertronix Castrol Edge comes pretty cheap here; about USD $27 at WalMart for a 5qt (~5L) jug. I never used to like Castrol much, but their current lineup of oil is a drastic improvement over previous iterations. What they're calling "Fluid Titanium Technology" is a very similar thing to Royal Purple's Synerlec additive; it's a synthetic silica-borate molecule suspended in a complex ester matrix that has an ionic charge to make it cling to metal surfaces. The marketing wank for products that contain the complex is laughable, but the science behind it is sound. I've fooled around with various incarnations of the substance (Motorkote, Polytron MTC, etc.), and while the carrier fluid varies, the core product does what it's intended to do. Powerful stuff! :)

+rhkips that sounds fancy. I just go for a brand I've heard of, vw spec and at least 40% off! Castrol is OEM for VW and Ford here. Don't get too many options to be picky here

I’ve got a mk4 gold vr6 and after hours of looking finally found where the pressure switch is, but on mine there’s a hose in the way of getting on of the bolts off and I think it’s from the ac compressor, could that be removed in order to get the bolt??

For future reference, if anyone who sees this comment needs it, I have a 1995 VR6 GTI Golf, and I had a metal hose that made it a pain to get to both the short bolt on the top between the sensors, and one of the longer bolts of the bottom. The bottom one is easy to get to with a box end or something similar to that, but the top one is very hard to reach. I used two extensions that I believe are 2 inches long and I went behind and over the hose with the smallest ratchet I have which is I believe 3/8. I don't have the sizes memorized, I just do the work on my cars. I did have to use a different wrench on the small ratchet to increase the leverage I had due to how tight it was, but I found that to be the easiest way to reach the bolt. If you need visual aids, respond to this or send me a message on here and I can provide videos/pictures to try and show what I did.
