The Favaro Assioma is one of the most popular pedal-based power meters out there. I have been using mine for years and they have been my go-to power meter when testing smart bike trainers for power accuracy. The Wahoo POWRLINK Zero power meter pedals are new. They are also pedal-based and have been very solid in my testing. They have a similar pod design, yet they are very different type of pedals. With both of these being excellent power meter options, it can be tough to decide which one you should go with! So in this video, I am going to run you through the similarities and differences between these two pedal-based power meters and hopefully help you decide which one is best for you.

Wow. Job well done. Im been a speedplay user since 2002. (raced in the early 70s with toe clips on cheese graters :/) Im ready to start using power data but needed to figure out if I need to change from the speedplay system or not. I dont think I will. Thanks for the great info.

Well done for your video. I was just expecting to see more data comparaison when it comes to how they measure power. Also, stack is not mentioned. Why? I have the Favero and I am looking to collect more detailed information on the Wahoo for a special TT Build.

I love my Assioma Duos (had them for about a year and a half now), they're super reliable. I agree with some of the other comments on here that the pedals are too "spinny", though. Even after using them for a long time, I still struggle to clip in on the road sometimes - my old Shimano pedals were much easier to clip into. The new Wahoo speedplay PowerLink pedals look great but they're too expensive for what they are, imo.

Same here. Have the assiomas for about 2 years now and it's still not completely intuitive to clip in. I used shimano pedals on a rental bike last holidays and it felt like I never stopped using shimano. But I still love the assioma and haven't regret the purchase.

100% this. PLUS: The customer support from Favero is incredible. Fast and alwaays helpful in case anything ever comes up. Also pair reliably with hammerhead, garmin and trainerroad on ipad and iphone.

Good video. I own the Assioma pedals - I think they're fantastic and at a great price. One comment on your video... I don't think your weight comparison is fully correct. I think you need to include cleat weight and pedal weight together to give the full story.
@SmartBikeTrainers
@SmartBikeTrainers 2 жыл бұрын
That is true and I thought about including mine. But since everyone uses different cleats, didn’t think it would be that useful of information. So I just included the pedal weight per spec.
@fiddleronthebike
@fiddleronthebike 26 күн бұрын
@@SmartBikeTrainers the opposite is true - it's useless to give the weight without cleats because you cannot use the pedals without them; and btw, wether you use Assioma or Look Keo cleats doesn't matter, they are about the same - but the Wahoo/Speedplay cleats with the needed 3-bolt-to-4-bolt-adapter are WAY heavier. So when you compare the overall weight the Wahoo system is significantly heavier than the Assioma (or Assioma/Shimano)

Nice review (as always!). Admit I’m wondering why I’d get either of these vs a 4iiii Precision for half the cost. With 4iiii I can use whatever cleat system I want, no recharging hassle, no Q-factor issues, equally accurate (according to specs), and it only weighs 9 grams. And save several hundreds of dollars. I guess if I have two bikes I can move the pedals between bikes, but I could literally equip two bikes with 4iiii on each at the same cost and save the pedal switch hassle (and use different cleats on road vs mountain).
@SmartBikeTrainers
@SmartBikeTrainers 2 жыл бұрын
The battery life is pretty good with the 4iiii and you can possibly save a few hundred dollars. But depending on your components, 4iiii can end up costing you more. Can’t speak on accuracy as I haven’t tested it. Thank for the feedback and watching 🙏🏼

Just a quick question for you, what is the weight of the cleats? the pedals may be 20g or so different but the look cleats are very light, however i bet the speedplay cleats which have so much more to them are considerably heavier, i don't have any so i don't know but the the cleat should be considered a part of the pedal and its weight.

Nice video and quality content - as always. thank you! Currently, I use Quarq power meter on my tt bike and wife's road bike, and stages (single crank) on my road bike. I have never tried pedals power meter. I understand there is a convenience factor (i.e. changing bikes, etc.,) Question for you: would you prefer/recommend crank power (i.e. Quarq) vs. pedal power (i.e. Favero) - or would you say it's the same? Thanks in advance for your feedback!
@SmartBikeTrainers
@SmartBikeTrainers 2 жыл бұрын
The argument between pedal base and crank based PM was mainly the type of cleats. Pedal based are so good these days and we have plenty of options to choose from. Personally I would pick pedals over cranks any day for the convenience alone.

Excellent video. I have the Assiomas. They are great. I just really dislike how they rock/swing prior to clipping in. I never got used to it. Other than that they are really nice. The Wahoo multiple Bluetooth channels would be a nice to have for sure.

Would love to hear about ease of clipping in out of each type, that is my main concern and reason I choose flat pedals for now.
@yuriyuen411

I use Speedplay and they are basically impossible when new with their standard tension cleats since you cannot adjust the tension level the only way is the break them in. After they are broken in you will also need to wash the pedal n cleats frequently because once they are dirty they will not clip in at all

As I like Wahoo very much. I don't understand the development of the Wahoo single sided power pendals. If they cut this development the dubbel sided are (cheaper) ?:) But the Assioma option of buy the second one later is cool. Oh I seen a ring between the crank and pendals you showing is that out the box ? Maybe it's better that way because of the torque settings.... charlesm
@SmartBikeTrainers
@SmartBikeTrainers 2 жыл бұрын
There is a spacer that you can use between the crank and pedals which I generally use but you don’t have to depending on the type of cranks you have. The single pedal option is there as a cheaper alternative. I’m sure Wahoo will introduce and upgrade kit eventually as supply become more available. But for now it doesn’t exist unfortunately. Thank you for watching 🙏🏼

The Q factor for Assioma's SPD-SL model is quite a bit bigger than their Look pedal version. Could be a deal breaker for some riders.

@SmartBikeTrainers
@SmartBikeTrainers 9 ай бұрын
Head units generally connect via ANT+ so you should have a BLE channel open to connect to the Apple Watch. As far as Zwift, the power meters will connect to Zwift but if you use Bluetooth then you won’t be able to connect to Apple Watch unless you get the PowrLink pedals Hope that helps.
