@@nj1978 Highly doubt it. As an avid Bok supporter one thing has always stood out to me. The Boks tend to adjust their intensity based on the opposition. If they're beating Wales by 10 and they're cruising, they'll just sort of keep it there. Whereas a NZ would traditionally treat their opposition like it's all out war and steam roll them by 60 points. Not saying the Boks won't do the same, but generally we don't obliterate the opposition. All this being said, be weary of an injured but proud Wales. I don't think it's going to be as one way as people are making out.

A long time ago I was playing under 14.5's rugby in chilly Christchurch. Our team were bottom of the ladder and were set to play against one of the best teams in the tournament. We had lost to these guys 60 - 5 earlier in the year, and we had arguably got worse since then. To our surprise we were actually winning 7-5 at half time. Our defense was holding up, the forwards were occasionally even winning rucks and at one point I had a full field try-of-your-dreams scrubbed just before half time because I was illegally pushed before I could regather the ball over the line. For the second half our coach rotated Ryan and Jake into the backline, two of the smallest and youngest players on the team. Not only was Ryan less than 5 foot tall but he couldn't run and he definitely couldn't tackle. I remember the opposition's 6ft tall outside backs running at him non-stop and simply running around him as he pretended like he was ever a chance of stopping them. Jake wasn't much better and if he even managed to get close to making a tackle he just melted right off them. So many leaks in the defense and the final score ended up being 65-10 to them. The point I'm making is that I think the Welsh forwards are actually pretty solid, but if your backs can't tackle you're going to get styled on...and the welsh backs can't tackle.

Haha this reminds me of our home fixture to Grey Bloem. We had never played a team outside KZN but had heard all the horror stories of this Bloemfontein team that put's cricket scores on their opposition. At this point we were unbeaten. We had beat Maritzburg College away and Michealhouse away, 2 very good KZN based teams. So we were confident. Game kicks off, we receive the ball, 2 rucks later we go over for a try. High fives all round and we though to ourselves that these okes were just hyped nonsense... Half time we were 19-5 down, but feeling pretty good as we had a try disallowed and missed 2 penalty's. It was even getting the attention of our other teams who had already played and had lost by more than 60 points. We ended up losing 97-8... Second half was just a blood bath. We gave it our all in the first half. They just didn't drop in any form of intensity throughout the full 60 minutes. Was like clubbing seals.

Always beware of a wounded animal. Recent form and results obviously favours the Springboks by a huge margin. But this Wales side is definitely better than what last week and their losing streak would suggest. By just having a few things fall into place, this Welsh side can be a lot better. Also, Gatland has always been able to pull up a strategy that would cause the most frustrations to the Boks. No matter how much better our team looked on paper, they've been able to hold the game close. There's that, and the fact that after their woeful performance last week, Wales will want to bring it with all their might in order to prove to their supporters that they won't quit. So while this could turn into a proper obliteration, I don't think it will. I think the Welsh boys will be brave and front up and still be in the game come halftime. Only after the bomb squad starts getting into their stride, do I see the Boks truly put this game away, by a margin of 15-20. ... Or, you know, this could get really ugly. Something like the rigby equivalent of the film _Hostel._ Let's rather be positive, shall we?
@clibo112 күн бұрын
Agree with you, the Springboks don't typically win by huge margins. So if Wales just goes for it and plays with high energy, disruptive who knows. Maybe they can create panic and mistakes in the Boks.

To be fair, I just don’t see it. Yes the wounded animal analogy works for team that has it in their reserve, but I just don’t see it this time. I hope I’m wrong and wales do have the reserve to put up a fight though.

I think as a Welshman I have to be honest, it’s nothing to do with coaches or anything else, we are a small nation that has some talent but not enough. We usually have a cycle or three where we are terrible as a couple good players doesn’t cut it at this level. It feels like the 80s and 90s again, 5 international quality players and 18 in the squad who wouldn’t be good enough for any other top ten team. These guys are brave but simply not good enough.

The Welsh squad is a joke. There's clearly no plan. Costelow at 10 instead of Anscombe?

Wales can just toss the dice and choose any up n comers as they are expected to again lose big time anyway. For the Aussies to slaughter them so badly just last week and with Wales continuing their losing streak, it is a symptom of where Wales is at at the moment. I’d like to see them play with freedom and not get sucked into any forward grind. Box could also play their second string side and give their top guys a rest. Sad to see how far Wales have fallen now.
