One night my father went out and when he opened his car door a dog jumped in the front seat. She would not get out and it was dark so he brought her home. Her owner was never found -- she was probably abandoned. We kept her and had her for 17 years. She was the best dog and we loved her so much. Her name was Brownie.

We got our best cat, Buddy, when the owners tossed her out because their new baby was allergic. Buddy started sleeping on our porch, coming in for snacks…. We finally asked and they said, “He’s YOURS now!” Fifteen years later we put him to sleep sobbing for our little love, Buddy…. But he had the best life and gave US the best life. Strays and adoptees are the best!

My late girl, Sox, was dumped in downtown Atlanta, and the vet near us picked her up when she came right up to him. Ferals/strays don't do that. She was six months old and terrified. We kept her indoors, loved and spoiled her rotten. It took her two years to warm up to us, trust and love us. We had her for 17 years until cancer forced us to put her to sleep. I still miss her. I have a new love, Babette; adopted at five months, she's five now, a Siamese mix. I love her just as much as my late girl, just differently. How anyone can dump, abandon precious animals is beyond me.

I got my cat Andromeda the same way. I'd seen her outside around my duplex a few times so I started feeding her. Once I got her comfortable enough to come inside for a bit I started asking around the neighborhood. Turns out one of her owners had died and the other went into a retirement home so I guess they just let her loose. So after a vet visit and checkup I officially adopted her and she's lounging on the window lounger behind me as I type this.

Something similar happened to me years ago. I was a dog person until this little, worn out kitten walked through our open living room door and fell asleep on the carpet in front of me. It too refused to leave, and nobody came around to claim it. That kitten became my best friend, and we used to play soccer together in my house, and it was fearless---to the surprise of many dogs that came close to our property. I have had several great cat members of my family since, but Chou chou was exceptional. May he rest in peace!

It always makes me so happy reading stories like this 😍 I love both, cats and dogs, very very much! So if someone who claims to be a "dog person" opens their heart to a cat/kitten it's so beautiful! This happened to us. We were determined not to get a dog again after having so many in the past. Then a stray pup about 3-4 months old came to our door. It would sit on the porch and when neighbors walked their dogs, it would go with them, but when they were done, he was back on our porch. Sometimes neighbors would bring him to the door and tell us they’d found our dog. Finally, we gave in. When we took him to the vet to see if he was chipped, the vet said he could tell from his behavior and scars that he’d been beaten so we decided not to try and find the previous owners, and he was one of the best dogs we ever had. He died from heart problem’s related to being on that great grain-free diet dog food makers are advertising to make money, not because it’s good for dogs.

5 days! That's amazing, the pups didn't take long at all. It took our rescued girl 2 weeks to let our boy near her. It took 2 months before she would wrestle back. Those pups belong together!

0:55 We fostered an abused boxer-mastiff with a prong chain imbedded into his neck, who lived outside in Houston in a 5x5ft kennel (he was 100lbs). He was stolen out of his prison by his rescuer. If you can rescue an animal when they’re being seriously abused & the way that’s happens is theft, I’m ok with that. My husband had to use bolt cutters to get the collar off him; they had put it on him as a pup & as he grew they let it embed into his skin! We foster failed & got to have him with us for 6 wonderful yrs. I still miss him a lot. He began our family’s love of big boxer dogs.

One of my all time favorite rescues, and I have had only rescues, was a dog I found in a park behind my Mom's place by the park. I only saw her thru the bushes for the longest time and left her water and food. It took four weeks for her to follow me into her yard and she was mine. I was there taking care of Mom and after she passed she moved with me to Whidbey Island and became a large (100 lbs!) personality in my little town here. She passed on the porch about 4 years ago, I still cry. Her ashes are scattered in her favorite hiding place behind the water cistern where it was always cool. They are just s grateful and she was so willing to BE what I needed her to be, but she was also naturally smart, intelligent and compassionate.

How sweet! She picked you! It’s funny because my rescue baby that showed up on my porch in the middle of a storm we named storm, but she goes by mama. She definitely picked us and we searched and searched to see if she had an owner but she was so thin she probably wouldn’t have survived another few days. She is the greatest joy that was ever brought to us! Her sister Daisy is a rescue baby also. Daisy came from a home with a concerned owner because her autistic child didn’t know any better and would hurt her. So we chose to take her in. They are the biggest blessings in our lives, and I couldn’t imagine a day without them. I’m so happy that she found her forever home with lots of love. What a wonderful story.❤️
