@Lord Hosk I agree. It wouldn't make sense for Rex to say it like Fives a better soldier. Rex holds a higher rank than Fives. It's in speciality. Meaning, Rex is a captain. He commands his troops. Fives is an Advanced Recon Commando. He specializes in - you guessed it - recon. Rex may have the same training, but he's not accustomed to recon in the battlefield. He may have also thought of the grappling guns, just after a moment of pondering and recalling the training. This is stuff an ARC trooper would be doing daily on the battlefield. It's the difference between it being Fives' second nature and Rex's something-I-learned-in-school-a-few-years-ago

I think that Rex went through ARC and completed it but didn’t serve in an ARC unit because of his unique leadership skills. Sort of like a naval officer going through Navy SEAL training but being so good at say information gathering that instead of working with other SEALs he works with the CIA. He would still be a Navy SEAL but wouldn’t be going on SEAL missions. Just thought of a good comparisons in Halo Solent Storm it is revealed that Sgt. Johnson in has gone through ODST training but because he’s so good at everything he will work in other ways like advising high level leaders as seen in Halo 3, or working as a liaison between John’s Spartans and Crowder’s black daggers in Silent Storm.
@talonmassakir90004 жыл бұрын
That would be a good explanation, actually. If I recall correctly; in the original EU (before Disney did away with it) there were at least 2 ARC Trooper Commanders who did not serve with an ARC unit and instead were assigned a squad of regular troopers and the other to a jedi knight. Both were KIA.

Valnerium • possibly it could also be that the change to Fives number was unofficial. Maybe he asked only to be known as CT 5555 just as he and other clones had nicknames. Or maybe the clones could officially change their numbers like we can legally change our names in the real world.

The kama and pauldron were an option for command clones. Captain or above. It was standard for ARC troopers. It was essentially added armour. The pauldron signified rank and was used to carry extra ammo, and the kama defended against shrapnel from the waist to the top of the calf. Cody was once asked by Rex why he doesn't where the added armour, and Cody replied that the pauldron threw of his aim and the kama was ridiculous. It added a swagger that went to your head.

I like to believe he was an Arc. I remember Hasbro released a set calling it arc troopers. And it has Fordo, Colt, Havoc, and Rex. Colt and Havoc weren’t even full decked out yet. And the background art of the box shows a crashed gunship like the mission from the clone wars 2003 animated series. We’re Fordo and 3 arc troopers with other regular clones go behind enemy lines to take down that cannon and win the battle. So I’d like to think those 3 arc troopers who served under Frodo were Colt, Havoc, and Rex who probably after that mission became captains and commanders or would later accompany Frodo to hunt Grievous and rescue Shaak Ti, Aayla, and Ki. And then become captains and commanders.

I think he's an ARC because of his position, not the other way around. Almost every example of a captain or higher we see in the Clone Wars (Wolffe, Fox, Cody, Rex, and Bly) all have more specialized armor. They probably give higher ranks like captains and commanders this armor to lessen the chance that a commander will die, as that would be a huge waste of time and money. ARC training would also help prevent and untimely death, as well as allowing for an officer to more effectively lead from the front, without worry of said officer dying and leaving his troops in disarray. Just my personal opinion, though.
@Julian-pw5mv4 жыл бұрын
It may seem that way, but they aren't arcs, arcs are advanced recon commandos this is a specific job which doesnt mix very well with being a captain or commander. Arcs are supposed to do recon and gather Intel, which isnt something an officer would do.

it kinda just seems like Rex and Cody were ARC troopers who were just given command rolls. And while Cody chose to go back to the traditional uniforms because he was a commander and would be working more as a strategist, Rex chose to stay in his ARC gear because his roll as a Capt would put him on the frontlines often. But idk
@darkjedi2614 жыл бұрын
This is the way I see it: Captain Rex's number is CT-7567 this is what is given to normal clone troopers; henceforth, Rex was not originally designated to be a commanding officer because even clones like Appo who was a Sergeant during the clone wars ( 2 ranks below Captain ) was originally designated as CC-1119, indicating he was originally meant to be a commanding officer. Another is that Rex was awarded the Jaig Eyes markings which were only awarded to one other known clone, ARC Trooper Captain Fordo. This would indicate that both Rex is an ARC Trooper Captain and explains why Rex could never be promoted to the rank of Commander simply because he was never designated to be a Commander in the first place and was most likely promoted to the rank of Captain by Anakin Skywalker himself especially as since Anakin liked to think outside of the box and fought in a very unorthodox way it would make sense for his commanding officer to be an ARC Trooper. This is just a summary of my views on Rex's ranking and ARC Trooper status.

I feel like this is similar to being a Ranger in the Army. You can go to Ranger school and wear the tab on your uniform after you graduate and its expected that if you have a tab you're a better soldier and leader. However, graduating Ranger school doesn't make you a Ranger. To actually be a Ranger, you have to graduate RASP and actually serve in a Ranger batt.
@JakeSnake074 жыл бұрын
While I want to say yes, the answer is clearly no. How do we know? Because when a clone is promoted to ARC, their CT designation is replaced with a ARC designation. For example, Fives started the series with the designation of CT-5555, which was later changed to ARC-5555. This is something that we even know that Pong Krell accepted, as he referred to Fives exclusively as ARC-5555, and I believe he was called that rather than Fives during his final arc. Meanwhile, Rex has *only* ever been given the designation CT-7567, as even Krell called him. Thanks to this, we know that he was never officially given the designation of ARC Trooper, despite the litany of other canon evidence for it.

My definition of an ARC trooper is similar to the definition of a Ranger Tab in the US Army. Basically if you pass Ranger school, you earn the right to wear a tab that says Ranger. So by that definition, anyone who goes through the Ranger school training course will be considered Ranger Qualified, even though they might not be from the 75th Ranger regiment or even the army. Similarly, my take on ARCs is that any trooper who goes through ARC training is ARC qualified and is therefore entitled to be considered an ARC even if they hold command roles or don’t serve regularly as ARCs. Hence, both Cody and Rex are ARCs to me

Think of it this way. Rex WAS an arc trooper.. he was then later bestowed a leadership role as the war progressed. And he adapted to it , because arcs adapt. According to Geetslys Rex is a “defective” clone . (To the kaminoans) The real life equivalency to this would be when a tier one seal becomes a commander of his own squad. Arcs were promoted to commanders and trainers in the second half of the war. Alpha and fordo were Rex’s trainers and commanding officers, according to a Star Wars figure battlepack. Rex got to fight alongside both of them on a top secret infiltration mission on a terrorist cell on couriscant . Rex took charge and led the mission to success. At this time Rex was an arc trooper the real life equivalent of a “ seal team 6 or green teamer” depending on how you look at it. Watch an episode of cbs seal team so y’all what im talking about. We officially meet Rex 8 months into the clone wars, on the blue ball planet aka chridtophis. By this time Rex was already experienced and put into a leadership role as the gar reorganized. Remember for the first half year clones had episode 2 markings. The arcs being the ones with customized armor. Rex is definitely older than 5’s and echo perhaps by a year or two. In clone years it’s probably 5-10. Rex keeps his arc armor but is promoted to a leadership roll in an effort to preserve the last like of genetically modified and bred arcs. The war stretched these bois thin and thus the gar started promoting quirky rank and file boys. Arcs were trained in leadership skills. Karen Traviss says this in her commando novels. Rex is even mentioned in the books as being a a competent and lethal arc.

There most likely is a difference in at the very least Fives and Rex. For me, Fives is a full fledged ARC Trooper in every sense of the term, as proven by yourself about that one line “”that’s y he’s the ARC Trooper.” Rex on the other hand, showed immense qualities/potential as a leader and so his training was more focused on that. Nevertheless, because of his high potential, he cross-trained with the ARC’s to give him a more dynamic look on the battlefield in terms of tactics and strategies. It’s a common practice IRL ground forces, especially among elite special forces units, to both sharpen and broaden their skills. #askeck because the original seasons of the Clone Wars are considered both canon and legends, could we assume that this new upcoming season is the same? The problem with that is will it conflict with the original Clone Wars cartoon that preceded this one (a problem which I’ve had for a long time)? Or do we have to wait till all the episodes are released to get a true answer? Video suggestion/request: X-83 Twintail vs. Tie Defender (Legends)

Rex is on-screen a lot more than Echo and Fives ever were, so it is quite possible that Rex underwent partial ARC training either before the war or very early in it, but because of his field duties never had the time to stick around on Kamino and complete the full program. Thus, Fives and Echo are "true" ARC troopers because of months of additional training, while Rex is only a "partial" ARC.
@FFG_318_Heavy4 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that ARC is a position not a rank initially given to the fist 100 alpha-ARCs (the Nulls are kinda the same but separate from the alphas). ARCs can have the same ranks and privileges as other clone officers like Rex but their duties are much different. Later in the war regular line clones who showed promise would be given the extra training to become ARCs and replace casualties. Rex could have received this training but because his duties are those of a company commander and not as a part of the Special Operations Brigade he is certainly not an ARC.

Rex had to start somewhere in his career, and considering the point he was at in his first introduction in The Clone Wars movie, I’d say that he didn’t stay an Arc Trooper for long, and over exceeded his Advanced Recon Commando training, not a commander like Cody was, but still a skilled as a leader nonetheless.

In Legends at least, clones came in tiers when it came to independent thought and ability. Your average troopers and pilots and such were basically human droids, trained and bred to be perfectly and instantly loyal and obedient but meant they weren’t very free thinking. Clone Captains and commanders genetic modifications were lessened, allowing more flexibility and creativity but still retaining most of the loyalty and obedience. Republic commandos had even less modifications, necessary since they’d be operating behind enemy lines, often cut off from sources of command. ARC troopers then had no genetic modifications, meaning they were pure clones of Jango Fett and completely free willed. And then the Null ARCs were so free willed and combative against the Kaminoans that they were to be terminated as defective and undesirable, until one of the mandalorian instructors brought in by Jango Fett (Kal Skirata was his name) stepped in and personally trained them. Granted this is mostly based off the Republic Commando Series, and as often happens in Legends some of it is probably overridden by other sources. But by those standards, Rex is not an ARC, he is a clone commander with supplemental training. Being an ARC trooper was not just a designation or a training program, there were clones specifically designed to be ARC troopers that were completely different from their non-ARC brothers.
@imperialoutback-schuby40894 жыл бұрын
I think Rex is an ARC in canon. Especially if you look at the kinds of missions he is usually assigned. Imo one of the perfect arcs in the Clone Wars to show this is the Citadel Rescue arc. If you look at who is all assigned to the mission it is Obi, Anakin, Rex, Fives, Echo, Cody, 1 501st trooper (Charger) and 3 212nd troopers (Longshot, and 2 unnamed clones), only 4 were not ARCs or Jedi which I believe was done to show how tough the mission was as the regular clones died in situations were you have to act cool when understress and conditions that a normal trooper would normally be tested. Echo imo "dies" in this episode due to his tendency to follow orders to a T and thus sticks to the plan to use the shuttle instead but it also shows that with experience you know how to handle those situations, which happens to be Rex's motto.
@davidhaas3111 Жыл бұрын
I think he refuses to call himself an ARC out of respect for active ARCs like Fives. I think he used to be an ARC, and because of that he recognizes that there is a big difference between an active ARC that competes ARC missions on the regular, and a captain that used to be an ARC. His experience from missions alongside Anakin might make him actually a better fighter than an ARC, but I doubt he’d believe that even if an ARC told him.

I also think Rex, like Echo, Fives and Jesse, is a third generation ARC trooper, with first gen being the Null-ARCs and the second generation being the Alpha-class, in which I would place the three ARC troopers from the episodes “Clone Cadets and ARC Troopers”. Following the Battle of Geonosis Captain CT-7567 may have been recommended for ARC trooper training, he returns to Kamino and this is where he meets Cody (who admitted he was not present at Geonosis), the two begin a friendship that sees them working together on many battlefronts following their graduation and promotion to their respective units.

I agree with the Rex in a Command role theory. My head canon when it came for Fives and Echo becoming ARC troopers was when they were promoted they got extra training along with the genetic modifications given to normal ARCs. Kind of like a Star Wars Spartan Program. I don’t know if that holds up since canon doesn’t really mess with ARC creation at all to my knowledge.

Personally I think I'd share your outlook of Rex having ARC training, meaning he technically is an ARC Trooper, but just being given a command role. Oh btw, could you make a breakdown of the starbattle between the Twi'Lek rebels and the empire as featured in "The Sith-Lords"?

I think Rex just a command rank clone with ARC training. I also don't think the pauldron and battle skirt or dual DC-17s make good evidence for him being an ARC. For example Fil, Bly, and at least a good portion of the 327th Star Corps had all of that, Fox had a skirt, and Stone used dual DC-17s, just to list a few. Also ARCs (at least all the ones in the show) had dual pauldrons while Rex only has a single

Rex and Cody seem to be almost elites among the arcs themselves hence holding leadership positions with regular Arcs like Fives simply being experienced, elite troops within the units themselves. Rex either clearly has natural talent or much advanced training such as Arc, Cody could very well just be a different class of training as it seems Rex is more experienced with fighting himself and Cody being more Overview tactics commander based

I thought we were agreed that TCW is not Legends, as you described it in the video on the differences in the clones between Legends and Canon. In that, you used the absence of the inhibitor chip as seen in TCW as evidence for Order 66 being trained in and followed by choice in Legends. This clears up our contradiction of Fives being able to become an ARC, but Rex not joining him, because it didn't happen in Legends, because you can't really become an ARC. That article about Cody will always be a problem because it was written at a time when they were still trying to smash TCW into Legends even though it didn't fit, but it could still work with the training being separate from actually being an ARC. Regardless of what Wookiepedia or even Chee says, I think this is the best way to look at TCW, otherwise there are just too many contradictions with the Dark Horse comics and the Karen Traviss novels

I always like to think the reason why Rex was in charge of the 501st Legion was because they are unique group of clones acquiring an unique leader. And ARC Troopers are as unique as they can come. The 501st Legion are able to work in many different types of *Battlefronts* even against overwhelming odds like shown in OG _Star Wars: Battlefront 2_ and where Palpatine's personal Legion. And a ARC Trooper is perfect for that role.

Yeah it would seem every commander and captain started as an arc trooper and through their skill level was assigned captain, or commander. While a standard clone have slowly earn since they probably aren’t as skilled. The dual pistols doesn’t signify arc trooper since it’s probably a preference thing.

A great analysis, highly enjoyable. I like to think that the Kaminoans messed up and forgot to take out the genes that made Rex so much more independent and intelligent than your run of the mill clone. Basically, he's an accidental ARC in my headcanon. To me, this makes him much more special and unique than if he was a purpose bred ARC that showed good leadership qualities, or a regular clone that was simply as badass as an ARC so they gave him the ARC training. Also, I'd really like to think that one gene that Rex has is the 'badS=true' gene unlike the regular 'badS=false' gene (KSP players will know what I mean for sure)

The way I'd see it is that once a clone is promoted past a regular trooper, they'd go through the standard ARC training, and then based on their performance their they would be assigned to command, standard ARC trooper, or whatever other advanced clone positions are available to unmodified clones

I don't think he was an ARC. Just because he was given the training of an ARC doesn't mean he is one. It could have just been an alternate form of officer training as Rex wasn't bred as a captain. This is clear because he is a CT. Clones bred as CTs were privates or corporals. Of course many were promoted. Clones bred a sergeants were CS, Lieutenants were CLs, and I believe Captain through Marshall Commander were all CCs. Cody for example was a CC. I noticed one of the sources lists Cody as a CT. Which is just false. So I would be hesitant to use that source. I think it's very likely that the training was a quicker method of taking a regular trooper and turning him into an officer. Teaching them to do more of the thinking because they were now giving orders, not taking then.
@zachzavelsky83024 жыл бұрын
CC stands for Clone commando, as Gregor had that same designation but he was only a captain. So it seems there’s a lot of weird gaps of info Edit:while I see clone captain would also be CC as you said(I missed it), I feel being a commando would over rule that in designation so I feel that the CC was referring to clone commando, not clone captain.
@nullarcstudios89104 жыл бұрын
Zach Zavelsky No it doesn't. CC means Clone Commander which applies to clones bred as Catapins up to Marshal Commanders. It just identifies that they are in a command role. RC means Republic Commando which is was used by the Commandos. By your logic Cody, Bly, Ponds(in legends at least they changed his designation in Disney canon and it makes absolutely no sense) and the rest are all Commandos. Gregor was a Captain so it would make sense for him to be a CC. As whether or not designations like RC was used for captains and up, even if they were a RC has never really been established if they had the RC designation as officers. The only reference we have is Gregor. So going off that we can assume that Clone Commandos bred as officers are given the same designation as other officers. Or they have an extra designations. Like it would be CC-RC-5576-39 for Gregor. But we don't know for certain. EDIT: I would to like to add there can be some confusion to this, mainly in TCW because the writers ignore the source material for the Clone Rank structure. Biggest example is Appo being a sergeant at Umbara, yet still being a CC. But that is a continuity error that is entirely on the writers of TCW for not knowing the rank structure which had been clearly outlined in 2005 for standard Clones. But not for special forces.
@zachzavelsky83024 жыл бұрын
Nullarc77's Bricks and Builds yes, I mentioned that in my comment, but also overall the identification doesn’t seem super fluent, as in the source u are referring to, it could be seen as clone commanders like Cody could be promoted to the rank, which would also allow Cody to be called CT during the timeframe of when that info takes place. It still doesn’t explain why rex would be CT and not CC though.
@nullarcstudios89104 жыл бұрын
@@zachzavelsky8302 That's not how it works. The designation never changes. A clone who is bred as a CT and promoted later is still a CT. They are designation numbers given when they are first formed. They never change. Which is why Rex being a CT makes sense because he was promoted to Captain. If there was a CC-7567, and designations did change, then when Rex was made a captain there would then be 2 CC-7567s. But the designations don't change. Ever. If you are bred as that, that is what you are. Cody was bred as a Marshal Commander. And that's why his designation is CC. Just like every other clone that was bred as a Commander. Here are some examples of each designation. And then clones of the same rank with the CT designation. The CS, CL, CC(captain), and CC(Commander): starwars.fandom.com/wiki/CS-2207 starwars.fandom.com/wiki/CL-9632 starwars.fandom.com/wiki/CC-4142 starwars.fandom.com/wiki/CC-2801 The CTs that were a sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Commander: starwars.fandom.com/wiki/CT-0000/1010 starwars.fandom.com/wiki/CT-6734 starwars.fandom.com/wiki/CT-55/11-9009 SPOILER for TCW season 7 Episode 9. You have been warned. For the CT Commander, well as of the latest episode of TCW Rex was promoted to Commander and still is a CT.

Alpha-17, one of the 100 Alpha-class ARCs, ran the training program Eck mentioned in the video, on the legends side at least. It wasn't to make those who participated into ARCs, but to help align their mindsets to think more like one, and to give additional combat training. This program was exclusive to a set number of Commanders, and Rex for some reason (This was never explained in Legends). The way I see it, the 'promotion' to ARC was nothing compared to the 100 Alpha-class Arcs, and was essentially a type of 'Beta-class' ARC. They were meant to help fill out the ranks of the Alpha-class, who had been reduced over the course of the war. Because ARCs, similarly to Commandos, were completely irreplaceable, the Kaminoans were stuck between a wall and a hard place. Let the Spec-Ops Brigade fall apart, due to lack of numbers, or replenish them with regs with additional training.
@arenesadventures21004 жыл бұрын
I always considered the shoulder pauldron as a piece reserved for ARC troopers, or at least partial ARCs, since we see the Rancor battalion commanders, gives, and echo with full double pauldrons. I consider Rex, Bly, Keeli, Fil, and Trauma all ARC trained commanders since we see other officers of the same rank without the pauldron armor like Ponds and Wolffe even though they wear the Kama, which I just thought of as commander regalia. Then again the same could be said about the pauldrons.

I mean, I never questioned it. I just thought he was an ARC trooper that was a Captain. Like how a Navy SEAL could get eventually get a command position and become an admiral. E.G Admiral William H. McRaven who had served as a Navy SEAL, commanding various squadrons and platoons, then moved his way up to Admiral, and chief of staff of Naval Special Warfare Group 1. Is it really so impossible to believe Captain Rex was both at some point?
@kroganbers3rker7784 жыл бұрын
I think that Rex has partial ARC training making him more elite than standard clones but not a elite than fully trained ARC trooper. It wouldn't make sense to use the time and resources to fully train an ARC trooper to then relegate them to a leader position. (A parallel to real life is that the tenants and the Army are given extra training but they aren't trained to the same degree as special forces or maybe Rangers.) However it does makes sense to give Rex extra training to increases survivability on the battlefield.
@greggepstein11644 жыл бұрын
My take with Legends was that there was an initial batch of GenModified clones that were made Arcs. These Arcs were specifically used as special forces. (This would have been independent of the commando program). After the war started clones that distinguished themselves were retrained as ARCs, these Arcs however were placed in regular units either as officers or had specialist duty in those units.

It's a similar distinction as the N7 appellation in Mass Effect. You can do the specialised training program and be recognized for your excellence and additional expertise, but you're not obliged to be part of the full-time elite ARC commando units.

Another way to look at it is 'Arc' is specialty; as is officer, pilot, gunner, medic etc. Having the 'Arc' specialty means you have the capactity to fill that role but doesn't nessarily mean you do it as standard.

The way that I see it was that Nulls where good and used as they where, so we won't talk to much about them, but the Alpha class ARCs where pretty awesome and went on there own super special secret missions, due to being bred and trained this way from birth (plus all the genetic modifications mentioned) but due to losses they had to train up new ARCs recruited from the best soldiers from conventional units (501st, 212th etc), however they decided that for whatever reason (maybe due to not having the genetic modifications from birth?) that they couldnt keep up with the Alpha ARCs that the best way for them to be used would be as liasons/attaches to their parent unit to increase the capability of the unit and add better mid level leadership (as is the case for Fives, Echo and Jesse). For officers such as Rex and Cody but also including others , Alpha noted that their conventional style leadership was adequate but to make them more efficient wanted to train them in ARC methods more to increase their unconventional thinking and individual skill. So you could say that Fives, Echo and Jesse are ARCs however Rex and Cody are more 'honorary' ARCs in that they have the skill of one but not actually the official title.

Rex and Cody both had ARC training, but they aren't ARC troopers. I guess if you wanted to call them ARCs you could, but personally, no. Granted I am pretty sure they have now said Rex is an ARC in cannon. I don't exactly have the same "cannon" as others. I personally still consider Starkiller cannon, Rex and Cody not an ARC, Rex wasn't in Return of the Jedi. Just a few off the top of my head.
