That engine was in front of a manual transmission. You’ll need to remove that pilot bearing in the back of the crankshaft since I believe yours is an automatic. It doesn’t have an oil pan gasket because someone threw that truck oil pan on there just to send you a whole engine. Seems a little suspect to me. Also I would definitely change out the valley cover gasket and knock sensor seals.

Me personally, I would have taken the heads off and put new head gaskets on...unless you had compression certs which you likely don't. That way you can inspect all the cylinder walls without dropping the pistons out and also mic the bore diameters by rotating the crank. You can determine if the block was every bored out and if the pistons are oversize...condition of the cylinder walls etc. More work but goes fast. This is the time to do it with the motor on the stand. You by contrast are taking a leap of faith that the bottom end is sound. What I like about you is...you are thoughtful about how you go about your wrenching. Many that do this are hacks. This automotive engineer's perspective. I worked where the Corvette was designed at the Chevy tech center in Warren, Mi.
@keithbroh57302 жыл бұрын
Honestly you say it goes quick but it sounds like a lot of work. Granted I don’t even know how to change a timing belt or chain but maybe that’s why it seems like a lot of work. If you have the right setup And direction I’m sure it can be completed in mere hours. I think if I tried that in my carport I would be there longer than my lease is lol

Time is money. His knowledge of the history of the engine probably outweighs his time he would use to certificate the engine. I look at my time like a hourly job 50$ an hour. 6 -8 hours of work. That's a big bill.
@misterclean122 жыл бұрын
He'll likely examine them with his borescope. That should give him enough info to move forward with the install. And if the pistons are aftermarket, there will be a part number on it to give him bore and compression numbers.
@gregoryfletcher61982 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up you need an alignment tool for the rear main cover when you install this as there are no alignment dowels on this"GM Stuff" . if you don't use the tool you may end up with the seal off centre to the crank and you will have a bad oil leak . given you have already installed check to make sure the main seal is centre. heaps of vids on this about have a watch. Can't wait to see this motor fire up, it will be a beast. Just had my c5 apart for a clutch, not a hard job just takes time with not car lift lol.

No such thing as bad pizza, just weak stomachs. On a serious note, I still think you'd be served well with a few work carts, so you won't have to bend down to the floor for parts/tools and they may even help keep your floor cleaner, because parts will bleed oil/fluid onto the carts instead of the floor.
