I really enjoyed your "state of the collection", John. You have a great two watch collection and you made so many excellent points about watch collecting. As for me, I've been collecting and enjoying inexpensive watches for decades and only this year did I purchase my first Swiss mechanical watch (a Glycine Combat Sub, which I wear daily and is the best watch I've ever owned). Now that I have a taste for Swiss mechanical watches, I want to add both a Rolex OP and a Tudor BB58 to my collection. It is a shame one can not walk in to a Rolex dealer and try on watches as my tastes are starting to run to smaller watches and I am wondering if I would like an OP36 or if it would seem too small. My smallest watch is a 38mm and it took me a long time to get comfortable with a watch that size, as at the time I purchased it, most of the watches in my collection were 42mm or larger. It definitely feels as if the tide is turning towards smaller watches now. Thanks for the great video and words!

Rolex, and Tudor both released 36mm pieces this year; the Black Bay, and Explorer. So that is an indication of the global market trend to smaller case sizes. 39mm is the hot size now; but in 2022 it may be 36mm. Often Rolex will be ahead of the curve with other brands following their lead. In 2005 I owned a 45mm Planet Ocean, and in 2012 I owned an Ocean One 42mm. Would I wear those now? No. My taste has changed to 39mm and 40mm. Of course I wouldn't wear a 36mm on my 8" wrist; but for the majority of collectors with a 6-7" wrist, 36mm and 39mm do appeal. The 39mm size also suits the current trend for vintage inspired dive watches. Wear your pieces in good health. Regards, #WR4K

Hey man, just got my 39mm San Martin limited edition and I love it. My suggestion would be to do the exact same watch, but in Tiffany Blue OP color. And maybe a movement upgrade to 9015 miyota or pt5000. I think that would be a hot seller for San Martin.

Great taste. Good to see an OP41 actually fitting someone well! Most of the people should go for the 36mm one i think. But with your wrist size this actually looks perfectly proportioned. Weird how the SM holds up from the outside look vs a Rolex that is like 50times the price of it. Now it's obvious that in house watch making is a different standard, and that the movement in the Rolex is an amazing engineering feat, but the SM is just what we really need at such a nice price for how well it is executed.

I wish Rolex would move the date to 6 o'clock on the Oyster Perpetual. It would improve it in my opinion. I have one left to me but seldom wear it due to that, as its not symmetrical and it just jars with me...I always have a date sub homage and a no date. At the moment it's a watch dives no date and a Phoebus voyguer 3 red fume dial which I love. I have the Rolex date I mentioned with the SM no date homage.. I've a lot of other watches but these are in regular rotation except for the Rolex

Both watches are too similar for a 2 watch collection. The one thing it does highlight though is you don't have to spend thousands to get a similar feel. A great honest review and you made some really interesting points about the designs and wearability.

I like the way you think! The rolex is a beautiful and timeless piece, and san martin makes watches with excellent quality, and maybe the best all around everyday watches. I wear an sn046g regularly (with the bright orange dial and brutalist steel bezel insert and brushed 9-link bracelet) and absolutely love it, but I do look forward to the 36mm sports watch offerings coming soon.

This guy is genuine watch collector when he talk about the bond inspired him to own submariner since he 19.Usually people just want a Rolex because of the hype or investment purpose.Yes they know it a good watch brand but those reasons overshadowed their judgement to own one.

Thank you for watching Ralph. It is true, I bought my first Rolex Submariner 14060M in 1998. This was before social media existed. Back then the Submariner was seen as a well made tool watch, rather than an investment piece to be sold on the grey market at a profit over retail. The market changed dramatically when ceramic Submariner, and Submariner dates were made from 2010. They demand increased massively due to social media making them hot investment pieces. When I bought my 14060M they were freely available in Rolex AD's, one would often see them in the windows; and there was no waiting list nonsense. I bought mine pre-owned for £2500 GBP as it was less expensive than buying it brand new from a Rolex AD. Back then grey dealers sold the watches under retail, not over retail as they do now. This is part of the reason why I sold my Submariner Date and bought my Oyster Perpetual 41. I dislike the image the Submariner Date has as a social media hyped watch which is an investment piece. They no longer owned by collectors, they are owned by investors or grey dealers. I like my 41 as it is more subtle and understated than the Submariner Date. Regards, #WR4K

Both channels were an inspiration for me when starting my channel using the "talking hands" presentation format. I respect Tim Mosso's incredible knowledge of watches; he has an incredible memory of reference numbers and specifications. With regards to Watchfinder I was interested to find that its a team; the hands handling the piece, and the person speaking aren't the same person, however it works well to give that impression. I admire Tim Mosso as he can handle the watch and talk about it at the same time. It gets easier to do this with practice; although my 151 videos have a plethora of verbal, and visual mistakes. Unlike many other watch channels I don't edit out mistakes to appear flawless; I leave them in. I make all my videos the same way; just pressing record on my camcorder and talking for 15-20 minutes straight about the piece in one take. Regards, #WR4K

We're around the same age and same journey from a Large high end collection now to a small one. The problem San Martin have is they have sold so many SN020 (both standard and Limited Edition) they have a shortage of cases; so have to make more which will take 2-3 months. The other problem is the shortage of NH35A in China; hence them testing the Epson YN55 as an alternative. Regards, #WR4K
