I’m using a Water soluble linseed oil for my WSO . THEY do make water soluble mediums for it. I don’t pre mix either. I’m enjoying these oils very much

I love the fast and loose style of this painting . It certainly resonates with me when you talk about sometimes setting a time limit and going for the big shapes and the essence of the scene - many a painting has been ruined by fussing and fiddling... Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it

Your watercolour is so fresh! I can really see the influence of the work you've been doing in oils here in your brush strokes and I love it. You've really caught the energy of a brisk fall day. Thanks for answering my questions Patrick. Also, I've had a look at your new website and really like what you're doing there. Have a great day.

Hi Patricia just to give you some updated information. Unknown to me rags with linseed oil on can spontaneously combust, it’s a rare occurrence but it can happen. I was informed by a subscriber today. I will make a point of mentioning it on my next video.

Hi Patrick, nice to see your work translating so well to oils your style is very "painterly" and ideal for the medium. I fully agree with your comments about the physical side of painting with oils. I moved to watercolours after 45 years of painting in oils on largish canvases (6-8 foot). Unfortunately had to drop oils when I let my studio go and we moved to a flat. I miss the physical aspects of working standing and using the shoulder and arm to control the brush. The dialog one develops with the canvas, moving forward to apply paint then back again to assess is very different from being hunched over a piece of paper and using hand/wrist brush control which I find somewhat inhibiting. Probably just need to loosen up and work more with watercolours until I find my path. all the best and stay safe, Chris

Chris, if you have room in your new studio, stand up and paint watercolor. You can paint big. While I still sit and paint smaller sized watercolor I work at not hunching over the paper. It's freeing to also put your painting upright and let gravity do its thing, especially larger pieces. Keep experimenting and paint freely.

Sounds like a good idea. I think that’s how I’m going to evolve with watercolour big and bold.0n the easel.

Wet well put Chris it’s a totally different experience having that mobility. I’m definitely going to take the advice from the other comment. Trying to work upright in watercolour maybe a challenge but if I don’t feel confined it could bring interesting results.

Very nice to hear your thought process. Both mediums have their perks, but I am also seeing why you are enjoying the oils so much. On the watercolor did you use the Cotman paints? Well, its very early here so its time for coffee here.
@PatrickLeyGreaves4 жыл бұрын
Hi Essie, yes on the watercolour I used all cotman paints and arche 140 not paper.

Yes don't store lots of fabrics and paper with solvent on,especially piled up ! Will generate heat and can self ignite! I've seen it happen in car repair garages and a dry cleaners !
