Thank you for this, helped me replace mine yesterday. I did however snap two 10mm spanners trying it the way you had it set out. In the end I raised the engine more to get a breakerbar on the end of the T50 bit and a large spanner on the outer splined bit. Wedged the spanner under the engine mount to lock it in place and rotated the breaker bar which got it moving in no time.

Did the job today, Torx 50 stripped first time, sat back and had a think, jacked engine up a little more, took headlamp off and got an extension with wobble sockets and got the pulley off that way using high torque dewalt, and the high torque was needed. Yes not the correct method but it was that or a whole new alternator.

Yeah, 2 ways, either keep pushing the tensioner, either pin it.. Mind your fingers!

Dunno about easy nothings easy work on when it comes to ford fuel filtered etc needing primed fords can be a pain if u dont have the knowledge or equipment

Have a intermitant rattle of mine, its a 64plate 1.6 tdci. Replacing should solve this yes mate

I hope it helps, but I can't guarantee. These rattles can come from various sources.

Rather than raise the engine, would it be easier to remover the alternator lower mounting bolt, loosen the upper bolt and rotate the alternator upwards slightly?

Good idea, but this Ford has 3 bolts and a bracket that hold the alternator. Not bad idea anyway 👍

Cheers. I have to do mine tomorrow. hoping I don't need to lift the engine. Strangely I have a 43mm pulley on the alternator and all the motor factors are stocking a 33mm wide pulley.

It's also a very tight bolt in the middle.

They are both good cars - depends what happened to them in the past. Personally I don't like automatic gearboxes - I don't know what to do if they break, it can get very expensive... Maybe it's just me 🤔

All cars break down, especially those that are not looked after. My Sharan is on 420.000 miles and not complaining. Things can go wrong, I can't guarantee that your Sharan will never have problems. Depends what previous owner was doing to it, and what he wasn't doing is important too 😏 I don't know what 136cv means, my 2.0tdi is not too bad for a family (not racing) car.

I think it has like 140 horses, depends on the engine, some of them come with 170, depends on specification.
