0:08 the one thing I like about anime “ you know what will be better, if we’re in dub than subtitles”
@whyjnot4202 жыл бұрын
At least with anime, the issue is a combo of bad translating and not having the established talent pool of voice actors that Japan does. Sentence structure comes into play. Occasionally mouth movements which show vowel sounds (like Spriggan) also come into play, but that is on the rare side (and really forces the people making the English version to really think about how to translate it). Here with effort & talent dubbing can work for the most part, in principle at least if not in practice. With live action the mouth movements, the difference in syntax and the fact that there is much more body language on display (doing this in anime, or any animation for that matter, adds a fair amount of money to what is needed simply due to there being more animation and this there is noticeably less of it) makes dubbing live action far harder to do in a way that isn't jarring. With exceptions being cases like Das Boot, where _everything_ was a dub regardless of language. As well as the fact that the English dub used most of the main cast as themselves for it. Not to mention the sentence structure being far closer to English than something from east Asia or something like that (leading to the body movement matching the translation better) I love animation. Anime being the biggest chunk of that. Given the choice between original Japanese dub and a crap English one, I will always take subs. But if the dubs are of equal or near equal levels for quality I prefer a language I can understand. Though in the 30 or so years I have been watching anime (which I knew was anime before seeing it) there are a grand total of 2 English dubs I completely approve of. The first Hellsing series and Overlord I, II & III.
