Well, after nearly 500 miles of R9T-induced pleasure I thought it was appropriate to record a bit of a review of this wonderful bike. Nothing too technical, more about how it makes me feel when I'm riding it :)
I hope you enjoy it, and if you do then please hit the like button and subscribe to the channel! I'm always grateful!

I picked up my 9T (low mileage 2016) a few weeks ago and am loving it. Tested the 9T and Thruxton back to back and I totally agree about the sense of fun and engagement with the BMW. One of the best comments on the 9T I've seen compared it to a "pit bull on a leash". You feed it, give it some affection and maintain careful control of it and it will reward you with absolute loyalty.

That's a lovely way to describe it, and I love the pit bull analogy too. Funnily enough, I thought seriously about going for a Thruxton, and was recently offered the Triumph Factory Custom version... it's sublime. Forgot to mention as a fifty something old man, I went to dealers to test ride a gs1200, just could not do it. I test rode the r1200r (bit more funky)but got back and took one look at 9 at. Such a good looking bike I bought one. No regrets that was 3000 miles ago no regrets.

I bought a car with this colour not long ago, it looks great on the R9T! Thanks for the great review, I had exactly the same "problem", finally got my drivers license after 13 years waiting and then I didn't know which bike to buy...I was always sneakin' around the R9T...but: too big, too heavy for a woman, to fast for a first bike, .. but still couldn't resist to make a test ride, this was the first and I was absolutely in love (after the first shock ;-)) Then my co-worker offered me a Street triple s. I thought this is the perfect bike for me, a little bit fast, but light weight and easy to handle, I gave it a chance and it was so easy to drive, I thought this bike is the one you should buy...but my heart said "buy the R9T, otherwise you'll regret it", so I did. I don't need a racing bike, I just like cruisin' around but will also be travelling with it and I love the retro style ❤ So I smiled as I heard your story, exactly the same feelings about the R9T - Street triple 😉👍 I'll pick up my baby tomorrow and hope I'll have fun with it for many many years 😊

Hi Browny K., so it's been a year since you got your R9T, has your mind changed since then? Still happy with your choice? I'm torn between the R9T and a speed twin, and maybe a scrambler 1200, and the long awaited Norton Atlas twins look good… 😶

I have a modified 2017 R9T. And we're all waiting to hear what the bike sounds like of course. Unfortunately for us die hard petrol heads, everyone else seems to be raving about electric bikes and some manufacturers are now producing prototypes. I even saw a Harley electric bike being advertised. Really? A Harley?? Can you imagine the future of biking?? Imagine this conversation: " Go on mate - fire her up and let's hear what she sounds li ... ohhh ;-( " The death of fun biking? Surely half of why we ride bikes is for the visceral experience - the feel, the sight and the sound. What will happen to biking when they kill the sound of your next bike? I guess some of us will just have to continue being 'old die hard petrol heads'!

I have had a bit of numb fingers with my 9rt, got round it with Sato (japanese) heavy bar end weights and some grip budies (foam grips thicken out grips made in usa). I do suffer from numb fingers and I get this on other bikes I have. But the two together sorted me out. Tends to be worse 4000rpm. Hope this helps if anyone else has similar issue. Comment about no fuel gauge errrrrrrr I just keep mine topped up at ever petrol station that has quality fuel. I was caught out when I put in £1.89 embarrasing, I'd forgotten I'd filled it up the day before. Love the paint scream, i think a nice Kawasaki racing gream for me.

I've been okay with regard to numbness, generally speaking; I started using a Scottoiler Cramp Buster a while back, though, which is great if I feel some tingles coming on. I can just relax my throttle hand. Try the trick I mentioned using the Trip I indicator. Just reset it each time you fill up, and you know you're going to get over 100 miles before the warning light comes on.

Excellent video. I sorely wish I lived in such a beautiful place. I have long been a fan of the r9t and the 2021 models look nicer than ever. I recently bought a Ducati Scambler and commute for 40 minutes through central Paris and outskirts and the Ducati seems as good as it can get for the purposes but...I am tempted to switch to the r9t in a year or so just because it is so beautiful, well made and reliable. Have you tried it in dense city traffic? I spend half the time filtering and I'm concerned that the extra weight and width would be a handicap.
@GuyOnaBikeMotovlog
@GuyOnaBikeMotovlog 3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks, Tony. The R9T is a lovely bike, and I can couch for its suitability for urban riding given that I do many of my miles in London and filter constantly. The weight is very low down due to it being a boxer engine, and whilst it looks quite wide the engine is no wider than the handlebars so you soon get used to it without worrying. Yes, it's a relatively heavy bike but you don't really feel the weight and it's very maneuverable.

I have a pure, the lack of fuel gauge is annoying. the sixth gear is not tall enough. I would probably get rid of the exhaust valve thing that makes the pop pop noise....other than that I will keep this motorcycle until I'm old, its a blast to ride and the ASC is amazing. I agree about lack of storage is annoying also. Also would help me out if you can give me an idea of what KM you get from full to as close to empty....I'm thinking 280KM is the max it will go on only highway. Going by what it claimes it should get close to 400km to a tank.
@GuyOnaBikeMotovlog
@GuyOnaBikeMotovlog 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about the fuel gauge (I'ver got used to using the Trip 1 reading - which I reset on each fill-up - to assess fuel requirements at any given time) but haven't found an issue with the gearing. It's worth noting that removing the flapper gives you slightly more snap, crackle and pop on the overrun, though. Personally I LOVE that. As for range, I'm getting a very consistent 45mpg riding mostly urban but with some open roads thrown in for good measure. I tend to bottle it at 120+ miles, though, and I've not really pushed it to find the maximum as I'd rather not have to call out the RAC!

What a great review ! I found myself agreeing with just about everything you said. The speedo dial is a real pain, I have toyed with the idea of placing larger self adhesive numbers at 30,50,70. In relation to the lack of a fuel gauge, it's a bit difficult to swallow on a bike of this price. I got it into my head that you could travel about 50 miles when the light comes on and the display starts to count miles covered on reserve ... 38 miles later I ran out but was fortunately only about 300 metres from a garage ! The 'burnt orange' colour looks great and is reminiscent of one of the colours used on the R90s from the 70's.

Thanks Andy - glad you enjoyed it. There is a way to swap the speedo dial out (I know that some of the guys on the R9T Forum negotiated a group buy for a nice clean replacement) but the lack of both fuel and temperature gauges is a real pain. That said, no bike is perfect and the R9T's character more than makes up for it's deficiencies. Agree about the colour - it's lovely and does have a touch of the 70's about it.

Actually, the tail tidy was one of a few things already on the bike when I bought it, and I can't see a brand on it. However, both Evotech and R&G have something that looks very similar (hope that helps).

I’m not sure that overheating an air/oil cooled engine that is in no way shrouded from the air is an issue. Water cooling can be problematic because even coolant has a relatively low boiling point and even if the system doesn’t overpressurize the system the coolant will turn to vapor in the hot spots in the engine and then cooling stops. These motors were designed for oil cooling with fins all over the cylinders. It would take a lot to overheat one of these motors.
@GuyOnaBikeMotovlog

I'm sure you're right. That said, not providing a temperature gauge on a bike of this price/quality (especially an air/oil cooled bike) is to me nothing short of weird.
@alanhassall
@alanhassall 3 жыл бұрын
@@GuyOnaBikeMotovlog My Buell XB9 Lightning, a bike with an air cooled V-twin whose cylinders are directly in line and whose rear cylinder is surrounded by a large frame, doesn't have a temperature gauge and my Kawasaki Z1000 doesn't have a temperature gauge. I think that my Z1000 does have a light. I had a VFR 800 once that gave a temperature and people worried as the temperature got to 100C because they did not understand what the boiling point of coolant was or the effects of a pressurized cooling system. In that case, too much info was a bad thing.

Ah - now, for reasons I won't go into there were two types used on this video; some unbranded lane-splitter things and some Puig that were actually pretty good. However, both pairs always ended up becoming loose and it was getting quite irritating in the end; I now use Oberon Performance and they're the best of the lot by a large margin, and seem rock solid.

The Guzzi is a lovely bike, but it has nothing like the power of the R9T. I guess it depends on your riding but on the highways there'd be no comparison.

The Guzzi is a beautiful bike, and it depends on whether you want performance or not. The Guzzi is unfortunately lacking in performance in a huge way. I had a Guzzi Le Mans in the eighties and it was a rocket ship compared to the V7. If performance isn’t a factor, buy the one that appeals to you more when it’s standing still. Take both for a ride and see which you prefer.
