Some of us seem to forget nowadays that this song was originally penned and recorded by Bob Seger and initially released on his 1978 album Stranger In Town (which also had "Old Time Rock & Roll"), with "Tonight" in the title spelled as the irregular "Tonite." Seger's original version made the top 15 in January 1979.

Dolly Parton ruined what had the potential to be a beautiful performance with that jab at Sheena Easton, which would've be forgivable by me and I think Sheena Easton would've willing to be OK with it as well. But that bit at the end with her sounding like she having a sexual experience was just a bridge too far and I just don't know if I can ever go back to liking Dolly Parton like I used to.

I love Dolly, but Sheena Easton's voice on this song is richer and stronger! I notice that they brought the song's pitch way down - apparently for Dolly. And that "Who needs Sheena Easton?" line was class-less. I don't care what nobody say. And she DESTROYED the ending! [Give me all the thumbs down you want ... I don't EVEN care!]

You are 100% correct. Dolly is and will always be considered a talented singer, but the "Who needs Sheena Easton" was classless as Sheena Easton had a strong voice back in the 1980s that made this song special and it was even more special in the 2010 First 50 special they did in Connecticut. I also didn't like the ending either on this version as it lost the luster of the couple getting back in love that the song had built up.
