Lance you absolutely nailed the questions. This is absolutely the best interview of Bryan I have heard (possibly the best period). You both sucked the viewer into the podcast, and made it such a beautiful, intelligent conversation.

Absolutely loved the honest candor between the two. I appreciated the additional questions of one another to take the thread of thought progressively deeper vs. the traditional one word replies and then the next question. Great podcasts, great host, great guest. Thank you both for taking the time to share your experiences and insight.

This is the best podcast interview he’s done so far. Specially because this is why we all listen to Lance; we want to know about his unique prospective of the sport when he’s around other athletes and, in this case, someone who acknowledges that it takes more than EPO to win 7 Tours. Fenomenal episode! PS: I loved the “suspense” of splitting this episode in 2 parts.

It has been very upsetting, at least for me, to see the erasing of Lance from cycling history. Even if the only thing this film does is get announcers to give credit to Lance, and for his history to be reinstated, it will have accomplished something big. I'm dying to watch this thing.
@bearmadden1776

G Kuljian The UCI is just a bunch of bitter old men, and they hey will never admit they made a mistake by erasing Lance, but leaving all the other dopers alone. But to be honest... Fuck the UCI. We saw it happen, we know the man who did it, and even if his name is removed from the list, people will always be asking whose name was erased.

What? You think that is the message behind the film? A few facts: 1. not everyone in professional cycling was doping. 2. different athletes respond differently to various drugs. 3. Doping successfully, as this film reveals is depended on money and an organized conspiracy between athletes, managers, coaches and doctors.4. The reason Lance got into extra trouble was his treatment and tactics used against whistleblowers. Was Lance an elite rider? Sure. Would he have been on the podium 7 times if everyone was clean? No.

Because of how the movie plays out, one thing could be overlooked, but I think it's important: even without a derailleur failure or a flat, Bryan wouldn't have won that race. It goes to show that even the most sophisticated doping programs won't guarantee anything. Yeah his power increased 100W over the year, but power alone does not win races. This very argument I believe redeems Lance in a huge way: let's face it, without the extreme talent and work he put in, no amount of EPO would ever win him seven TdFs.
@dsi1212
@dsi1212 6 жыл бұрын
Think you are comparing two different things here. Of course giving a normal guy doping doesn't make him win the tour the France, but at the level of professional riders the difference of doping could be between finishing first or 50th since they are already so close together in fitness, let alone a 100 watt! difference...
@Fridate

Bear Marshall King that's what I got from it too. Lance was doping, yes, but he was still better than all the other racers - who were probably also doping.
@johngoodell2775
@johngoodell2775 6 жыл бұрын
So ignorant...you dont understand bike racing. How do you know that if he had no accidents he wouldnt have been at least on the podium- which would be a pretty great result? That thread was not the point of the movie. The point was that a successful doping program requires a conspiracy between athletes, coaches, managers, scientists and doctors. Its also about money. The reason Lance was so successful was that he put together a very precise, organized doping and training program that involved one of the best doping doctors in the business. Hi ability to do this was highly based on money. Which is why he was sued. Was lance a great rider? Sure. Would he have one 7 tours if everyone was clean? No. Because even if you dont have flats, or crashes, you still will have days where you dont recover from the the day before, you feel like shit, and you get dropped. Doping is about recovery as much as performance. Could Lance dominate one day races without doping? Yeah - just look at his triathlon results. He was competing with the worlds best triathletes when he was 15. But the Tour is too complex, too long, too many miles, and too unpredictable to monopolize the podium for 7 years.

That is logical fallacy right there. It gave him enough advantage to win the race or get better result at least he just didn't have luck. And who said other guys didn't dope?

There is illegal use and abuse in every sport on the professional, collage and amateur levels.. To isolate one person, sport, team, country is absurd, although we do understand the level to which some countries and teams are on a different level. To have robbed Lance and others if their titles as they were the norm is a focused witch hunt for show..

I think Lance was very evasive when answering to Bryan's final question. He talked in the third person and about what other people tweeted about the movie, but not he was not candid at all in the answer which makes me think it was a very defensive answer and focused on his legal case with the Postal Service

Glad to see Lance bringing Bryan over to his forum to further the cause for fairness in sport. Although the discussions about EPO dosing, folic acid, EPO halflife, and the whizzinator provided more definitive insights into Lance's personal doping journey, I'm a bit disappointed they may serve as recipes for future cheaters. I'm still (naively) holding some hope that chemistry catches up in the next few years and costs of testing continue to decline. The last thing I want to be worrying about if I'm unfortunate enough to miss kona by a slot & Boston by a few seconds again is that it happened because I wasn't doping.

Bryan Fogel is so articulate and clear in his explanations! Lance Armstrong is a Joke! I will NEVER watch him interview again. So rambling and who cares what he thought? If you are paying attention, you will see Bryan working to keep from laughing at Lance’s rambling comments and questions several times. Personally, I don’t care one iota that Lance Armstrong rode a bicycle fast. How can that be impressive when he was on drugs and couldn’t take responsibility for his poor judgment? Liar and druggie. He totally butchered this interview and I find it hard to believe whoever he is working for can’t see it. If he was a nobody, they wouldn’t come close to putting him in a position to interview. Amazing what is acceptable in our society!

Debby Grayson I noticed same thing about the rambling interview style and BF trying to figure out how to respond at times because Lance's comments were so inane. I was looking for more substance from Lance because it is a topic that is so relevant to him. He made a good point about how the Russians in Sochi got the samples in/out of that hole in the Aliquoting room without being seen/caught. I wondered that same thing. Two cringe-worthy Lance moments, "I'm so glad you're not the kook I met in 2015" and "I'm scared for ME" (in reference to interviewing Brian.) First if all, the initial concept for the doc was brilliant and interesting, not "kooky". Second of all, listen to all the times Lance says "I" or "me" and interrupts in any interview. He truly is an egomaniac/Narcissist. That said, "Icarus" proved doping doesn't make someone superman/superwoman. Lance was an amazing athlete with natural talent and determination. If he didn't win, someone else taking performance enhancing drugs would have. It's all so effed up. I seriously think we should get rid of the Olympics. It's a joke.
