The third of the Creature Crucibles, with the least most useful races. With seven of the eight races unable to easily move on land if they can even get on land, this crucible gives you a very narrow scope for adventuring. Everything is underwater, with lots of fish and tons of magic. But it's also plagued with a lot of races that have no abilities and just serve as weaker sea going fighters.

All hail Blibdoolpoolp. She's really got to travel the planes more. Everyplace needs a little Kuo-toa. (Not too sure if the Immortals would allow Her to horn in though)

"Who were the Sea People?" is one of the biggest open questions in anthropology. Edit: I should probably watch videos before I comment, as you referenced the historical "Sea People" within the first 10 seconds. Oooops.

The real life sea people are also good material for a dnd campaign.

All the talk about negative XP does explain why the monstrous classes briefly done in 3.X were as odd as they were. TL;DR for the people unfamiliar: They were alternate classes where you started out as a low powered version of the monster, and as you progressed you occasionally had "dead" levels where you didn't get HD or skill points or anything, but you did get abilities or stat boosts. So by the time you finished the progression you had a monsterous character with the equivalent of a 2-3 ECL and the hit dice, and then can multiclass into something else.

I rather like the approach Shadow of the Demon Lord did, where monstrous ancestries came with their own base class (you pick a total of 3 classes throughout your career not unlike 4e), which had a combination of ancestry-specific stuff, as well as a few levels where you could choose between becoming more like a warrior or a mage.

I loked that one optional rule that let you ignore very low ECLs, well LA at least I think hit dice still counted, in a sufficiently high level game.

@@DIEGhostfish Honestly, I think Pathfinder 1e did it best when they just leveled out the races so there wasn't a need. 5e did the same. and one of the few things PF2 did right was making certain "races" (Aasimar and Tieflings, and others) into basically universal sub-races that could be applied to any "base" race. But I'm one of the folks that embraced 3e, and I loved being able to stick a monster with class levels in order to really screw with player expectations.

By in far the sea people are a mixed piece of history. As noted by some of the records we do have from then along with the relative range it is more like the sea people were as much a final nail in a coffin of a already collapsing civilization you know? The sea people in effect were the kicking them when they are down effect

Them, and various mountain nomads, depending on the bronze age civilization in question.

I liked the Sea Peoples. Mostly because I thought it was a cool tie in to both Minrothad and Ierendi. Going on land can easily be solved by an Air breathing spell or similar magic device. What I really liked was the 3-D combat.

I think the bigger issue is most of them don't have a land speed equivalent to other races. Most of them move 10' per round if at all.

@@Mr_Welch Yes, but that's an easy fix. Easier than realigning XP's like I had to do for Top Ballista.
