I broke my neck working seven days a week to keep my children out of those environments. They used to get upset with me because I was hardly home spending time with them. As adults now and able to see real life for themselves and hear the horror stories of other people's lives growing up, they are all thankful at the quality of life I worked to provide them while growing up.

They really believe in this and there is nobody that can change what they think is the life. These are the people you should never worry about or feel sorry for. It may sound harsh, but all you need to do is talk to one of them. You can offer them 1 Mil to leave and they wouldn't.

I grew up in north Camden and in Fairhill north Philly and I will always remember when I moved to LA in my 20’s and dudes and my cousins told me east La was the “hood” or barrio as they called it. I was one of those that said you crazy, this is not a hood! It looked clean, spotless, no vacants , no dope fiends passed out everywhere, but I quiclkly found out you could get got quicker in LA, the huge difference was gangs. Back east we had crews and crazy fools that just killer you and you could stay out of nonsense if you kept your mouth shut and man up, in LA it was gangs. Maravilla gang where I lived and then different gangs by evergreen avenue and you couldnt walk anywhere without some fool coming up to you with the Where you from Ese? LA in the 90s was clean but dangerous as fuck even if you werent in a gang, you could get shot over nothing. Needless to say I never wore my Phillies cap 😂 back then -if you were out of east La and working south any one would mistake you for a Piru. the other difference , LA had girl gang members and they were crazy as fuck. LA has changed a lot! For the better I think. Problem now is fentanyl and dope fiends but they mostly downtown and Hollywood and dope fiends dont rob you cuz fentanyl fucks em up and theyre just in their tents dying and theyre not really in any of the neighborhoods. Most are safe and a lot of these old timers who survived the 90s are just living out their memories and have some sort of PTSD about those days. Nothing glorious about growing up in the hood all I remember back east is being broke and eating goverment cheese

I waited until I was in my 30s and well established making good income before I had my son. He grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood with his own room and bathroom. He is grown now but he has never appreciated what I did for him. I grew up poor in the hood and was raised by my grandmother. I always said if I ever have a child I what to make sure I raise him or her in a good environment where they never have to worry about getting shot or killed simply walking home. I use to hear other kids tell my son when he was growing up that, "I wish your father was my daddy". I sacrificed promotions and advanced positions to keep from uprooting my son from his home and moving to a different state. In the end he grew up to be selfless and think ecerything is all about him. It is funny how so many kids dream of having a great father and home while others like my son are self centered and think the world revolves around them. I am retired now but it breaks my heart to watch the news everyday and hear how many young kids have loss their lives in the streets due to bad parenting that allow the streets to raise their children.

@@scholageemusic9373 man even the cost of homes in Compton and south LA are impossible to afford moving to. The so called “hood” yet their homes sell for no less than 500K and up. This means everyone who lives in Compton or south central is rich compared to the rest of the country if they’re able to afford that cost of living and live literally 10-20 minutes from the beach. Just goes to show that California people aren’t high quality people and it shows through their culture. They’re spoiled compared to people many other parts of the country but still created a gang culture that destroyed communities for decades when they never had to in the first place. They don’t live in freezing cold run down cities where the economy is crashed like Detroit or New Orleans. There’s no reason they had any excuse to terrorize their communities and commit self genocide, people in Cali have it good.
