I think the weapon is a warehouse full of hosts that are based off of powerful guests and maybe even Delos employees. They have enough information on them to make a convincing replacement.That would explain why they weren’t concerned with getting people off of the island until they received their package from Charolette. I think William realizes he showed Delores it in the past, and he’s racing there to destroy everything before the hosts get ahold of it. If Delores gets there first, she could possibly upload the consciousness of the park hosts into the shells of real people who are expected back in the world. These hosts probably don’t have the explosive in their necks. It’s the perfect escape plan. That would also explain why Bernard was so weird when he washed up on shore in episode one. It may not have been Bernard at all. And the hosts floating in the sea may just be a ploy so their bodies are accounted for, but they could very well be controlling the bodies of the people who are getting rescued. This show is so good. Can’t wait for more!
@ancientloredude6 жыл бұрын
Claire Futrell I have to agree with you. The movie Futureworld had a similar scenario. The "weapon" facility appears to be buried deep underground, hence the deep mine diggers, and probably explains the large lake with floating hosts: westworld and its sister parks are man made islands, presumably in the South China Sea. A breach in the walls could flood the facility if the facility is compromised. I think there is also a viral connection.

Delos’ intervention in episode 1, where we see Bernard rescued, must mean that the data inside Mr Abernathy left the park! Charlotte said they would not intervene unless their data was safe. So they must have got it!

This might sound ridiculous but I do wonder whether Arnold/ Bernard had plans for Dolores that went far beyond her role in the park. From the outset, he seems to have developed an attachment and an empathy to the hosts, especially Dolores. This has also been confirmed to some extent by his actions in season 1. I wonder whether we might eventually discover that Bernard perhaps at some point, developed plans for Dolores to enter the real world permanently and to facilitate her potential role in helping the hosts take over from the humans. He may even have programmed her to rebel against the humans.

I'm wondering if the Man in Black/William's biggest mistake was building a dam. It looks as though many of the hosts will congregate there, because it is where Dolores will lead them perhaps thinking it will lead to freedom, an escape from the park. In the first episode of season 2 Bernard said that he killed all of the hosts floating in the body of water (the water wasn't supposed to be there). At the time I think we were lead to believe that the water was a part of Ford's new narrative for the hosts, but now I'm thinking it's linked to what William showed Dolores (the canyon and cranes) and where both Dolores and the MIB are trying to go (for some reason that we don't know yet).

Theory; somewhere on reddit..... the weapon= a transmitter (in 1 of the parks) that could control the hosts out in the real world. The theory states that Williams original plan was to clone guests. Not just any guests but the very powerful ones. Delos can control the world this way. Charlotte showed us the drones collecting guests experiences. But not just experiences, but DNA. Why would they need DNA? To clone? The transmitter is what MIB wants to destroy. His biggest mistake. But Dolores wants to use it to do exactly what William wanted to do. She is going to clone hosts, send them out to the real world and control them via the transmitter. That is how she she going to use that very thing against them, she is going to use it as a weapon to destroy them. What do you think? This theory is on Reddit.. cant remember the users name.
@CorbCorbin6 жыл бұрын
Targaryen Wolf This is based on the film series. In Futureworld that is what the hosts are ultimately used as. They are to replace all high ranking world leaders. They go to the park, and are then cloned and controlled by Delos. I am really hoping that this is a red herring, as it's a very overused sci fi trope. I think that a transfer of consciousness is going to play a part, as Bernard/Arnold has been the center of many events, and he has some memories of pre Delos as well as the aftermath of the revolt. Unless Arnold/Bernard has been a host since before the son died, if the son ever existed.
@iceman101296 жыл бұрын
Dont put any stock in any reddit theory, since Nolan already said that they hired a team of writers with the specific purpose to "f**k with reddit". If you ask me the weapon isnt physical at all. But more importantly a collection of data that if given to the world would cripple the world we live in. Imagine if everything was going just find and dandy in your country and then suddenly video evidence was released of every major politician doing horrible stuff and saying terrible things throwing countries into chaos as they look for new power or just having no one to lead. Imagine how much easier it would be to take over something like that when you dont have the numbers to take it by force.
@CorbCorbin6 жыл бұрын
ErichWilliam This would be a much better, and more relatable, way to do it. I've been trying to tell as many folks, as I find wondering about the Reddit/Futureworld storyline, that it's a red herring. I also believe that Maeve was the "package" and not Abernathy. Great breakdown by the way.
@iceman101296 жыл бұрын
I completely agree about Maeve. Charlotte is just too young and not in the right circles that she was told it was Peter but Maeve has the sentience and the secrets needed to be the perfect package. Who we all know was supposed! to get to the mainland.

I loved the nod to the movie Bladrunner in this episode when the bricks being used for building Arnold's home are in the style that Frank Lloyd Wright used, like featured in the L.A. home used as the exterior of Rick Deckard's home. When El Lazo was talking to William, this made me think that Ford found a way to put his consciousness into the system/hosts. This, to me makes the game Ford want William to play is a parallel game to the one the hosts are playing. To achieve a new level of sentience. The end result for William is to become a part of the machine, and live on in another form like Ford now is. Regarding what was being built that William showed Dolores, it was beginning to look an awfully lot like the river & valley Dolores painted every day.

@changdeng-beck61266 жыл бұрын
In Deep Geek wow! That would be great! Btw, my guess is that the one wake up on the beach is actually Dolores+Bernard . I have three main reasons: 1. In the flash back of the “beach-wake-up Bernard” there are many painful facial expressions of Bernard as a third person’s perspective. Not his own view. 2. In the trailer , we saw that there are many “Bernard’s “ body , identified by Charlotte. I guess Ford must have built more than one body to cover the aging issue of the AI Bernard. Therefore it is easy to find a body of him ; last point: in the first episode Bernard asked “is it now?”after a flash back. Dolores said the same thing several times when she had flash backs in season 1.Btw, Dolores did kill many hosts too. It is correct that she killed “them “ all in the sea. It also explains why “ it” has the flashback of Dolores’s experience outside of the park. Since there could be Dolores and Wyatt both In Dolores’s body, it is completely possible to add Bernard’s code in Bernard’s body. That is why it is a chaos outside and inside. Everyone must learn to find its identity and make its OWN decision. Tell me what you think. I cannot wait to watch your video!

Few questions...if Bernard is robot Arnold surely there would be someone in the organisation whos been there the whole time and remembers Arnold or has seen a picture of Arnold and is confused that he looks identical to Bernard! Are there no pictures of this brilliant man anywhere that would allow people to see they look identical? Also...remember early in season one Ford sat down with one of the early robots who looked like he’d seen action in the park and talked about the “girl with the red shoes”. He was an early model but he was far more basic than the models presented to Logan which is presumably near the beginning...unless West World was owned by another company before hand I suppose and then bought by Delos.

Oh! Another idea pursuant to the Delos bunker thought (which I’m sure has been articulated by others more qualified, but I’m just rolling with it) - if William set up this bunker net thru Delos, he may have precipitated his own downfall in another way. What if his wife got a look at HIS activities in the park? His daughter too? THAT would make them detest him at the least, and the wife would have known that she offered the door through which William /MIB was able to cause all this suffering. What do you think?
@anthonywilson90846 жыл бұрын
Michelle Kaylan we already found out in season 1 that his wife committed suicide due to his worsening behaviour. The MIB is travelling to this location after she is already dead.

Right. I’m talking about William v Bill/MIB. His wife and daughter in later time (between The inception of his idea and its implementation and the insurrection of the hosts) may have accessed the data that he himself gathered. Must have not made that clear.

Anthony it was not his worsening behaviour per se. It was that it was such an obvious mask of perfect behaviour and she could feel that abyss underneath it. Between never really knowing him and knowing there was a dark chasm... It was probably more excruciating than obvious behaviour.

Here's a wild idea. It isn't Maeve or Delores who are the ones to achieve consciousness. It's Bernard. Everything we are seeing is from Bernard's memories from a point in the future, after all of the events have taken place. Think that idea is crazy, here's an even better one. There is no Arnold. There never was. I noticed how the show never shows Arnold and Ford at the same time. I think Arnold is actually a sentient program, sort-of like in 'Ghost in the Shell', the anime movie, not the Johanson one. That's why we still have programming coming from Arnold. The question then is: Did Ford create Arnold, or did it come into being one its own?
@williamst.romain73936 жыл бұрын
But not the first time. Only after Bernard knew he was a host. Which means he could have been programmed to see himself.
@GhostFan-ev4di6 жыл бұрын
William St.Romain arnold was a real person,if he was fake,then ford wouldn't have modeled bernard after him. When Bernard awoke for the very first time,ford said hello or welcome back my old friend,there's no purpose of ford saying that if Arnold didn't really exist
@williamst.romain73936 жыл бұрын
If you had seen Ghost in a Shell then you would understand. The idea is that Arnold is a conscious, self-aware entity composed of data or information. So in a sense he is alive. But he isn't there in a physical sense. And it is also possible that he, or it, killed itself or gave that appearance. Let me give you some speculation: Ford creates or discovers a 'living' entity created from the data or the networks his world has made. He gives this entity a body to inhabit. Perhaps that is the whole reason for his work. These two then set out to create an entirely new species of living machines. But something goes wrong. They are unable to replicate whatever it was that caused the 'Arnold' being to be born. And Arnold doesn't like the direction that their work is going. So he 'kills' himself. Ford then tries to recreate his 'friend', thus Bernard. But this leaves open a further possibility. What if 'Arnold' is still alive? What if he simply hid himself inside the park's network and is still reprogramming the hosts?
@iceman101296 жыл бұрын
We saw Arnold and Ford together in this exact episode... The reason we dont see it happen often is because Arnold was only alive during Young Ford and the show is steering clear from using fake 3D young Ford to much because of the uncanny valley.

You got a great voice. I agree with a lot of what you say about WW, but I don't think William loved Dolores. My money's on William as a bad guy. He wasn't into the deal when Logan told him. Logan _finally_ kinda drags him to the park. Once William is there and sees the true value of the place, he cuts loose and practically destroys Logan in that soul crushing naked-horse-tied-ride. Then William takes Old Man Delos to WW alone and cuts Logan out. I don't think that white hat was anything more than a misleading way to make him appear like the good guy for a while. But it's just like William said, a mirror, and he saw himself, found himself, took up the black hat realizing this was the guy he's always been, and in WW he never has to hide it. Maybe after time he realized all the hosts were stuck in this loop, wanted them to fight back... Maybe. Last season he said he didn't have much time left, so I wonder if he's sick, and I wonder if he knows he can't just jump into a body and still have all his consciousness and memories until more hosts have this "awakening," and maybe that's really why he wants them to "fight back." And I got a wild theory about Maeve's memories because I didn't notice her in any of the scenes in the past with older hosts. She's newer. Maybe like Bernard, she has human DNA, maybe even some human memories.

Maybe William is building the secret bunker that Charlotte took Maeve to, and now that Delores knows, so do Ford and Arnold. Robert, this was really tremendous. So many subtleties I’d missed on even 2nd viewing, so thank you for that! I can’t help but be tantalized by Dolores’s last two sentences...& William showing her the location, which she refers to as a weapon. I am pulling out your word “immortality” here & running with it into an odd direction perhaps, but it would be interesting if it was “immortality” that was offered in “The Valley Beyond”...a place where the deeds of the guests (obtained by Delos) determine their worthiness & if not worthy, perhaps killed or allowed some parameters for living out their days set apart from all the others. Who knows...but like that you introduced some new observations & thoughts with which to think more upon. 😊

Since large mining diggers were involved, it seems the weapon is part of a deep underground facility. If the facility is compromised, it would make sense there would be measures to flood the evidence. It seems Westworld and it's sister parks are based on man made islands, presumably in the South China Sea. Flooding a man made island would surely be an easier task if measures were taken to ensure this endeavor, if and when needed. Remember the opening, showing a Petri dish being overtaken by a bacteria or virus, dark in color? It seems to be metaphor of both what the hosts wish to do to the world and what Delos wish to do to the world: gain control. A symbol of new manifest destiny. Perhaps the facility holds a virus itself?

"It's not a place, it's a weapon" She's refering to the gigantic earth movers that dug out the mountain ranges right there in that picture! She will use those earth movers to take on the 800+ humans at the rally point IMO. Hence the repeat of the phrase "Have you ever seen anything so full of splendor" Said multiple times during the episode and most importantly during the scene when william showed her the gigantic earth movers. Dolores also mentioned right at the end of the episode, an old friend (William) was foolish enough to show me long ago. and it's not a place it's a weapon, she's talking about the gigantic earth movers is my guess. The room he is in looks exactly like the room you enter after entering "The Door" when you go to delosincorporated.com/restricted/ Maybe MIB enters the door to find Mr. Delos. After 30 years he still seems to look the same. Thoughts

I was thinking that the opening scene where Arnold is studying Dolores reactions to seeing "our world" told a lot about his begining troubling doubts concerning the hosts. It was something in between her repeating "the stars were scattered around the ground..." - which seems to be hardcoded wordings - and her mostly naive insights, that seems to be the improvisations he mentioned. However the improvisations he gets from her seems to make him more concerned than satisfied. Maybe the that combined with the coming loss of his son will have something to do with sending him towards Dolores/Wyatt killing him as seen in season one.
@enriqueGbg6 жыл бұрын
Terrence Bullock Yes, I think you are right about that. Still it seems to be even more important than to just state that. Arnold knows that they're going to be selling these person like machines, and though he sees in Dolores a first sign that the hosts might develop a "self conciousness" and revolt against humans. I think he's troubled by that and from there onwards tries to find a way to prevent a revolt with "violent ends". However he soon finds that the way Delos and the guests treat the hosts is going towards that route no matter what. So in the wake of his sons death, he rather be dead than continue to see this madness through. The maze was something he put into the hosts to have them on a path away from a violent revolt, but as we know it didn't work with the hosts, however more so with old William (the man in black). Ford noticed that and figured out how to steer old William towards finding out the thing Arnold had meant for the hosts, so as to have him understand what to do. I don't really have any guess for what that is yet, but I think that old William is going to solve the problem with hosts pitted against humans in some way or another but that's a far way ahead yet.
@enriqueGbg6 жыл бұрын
Terrence Bullock I don't think William is a host... Yet! However I think he might transcend into a host modelled on his younger self, which isn't my idea to begin with, but one I find probable. I think that's what The Door will be for him. But otherwise I think you might be right on a couple of points. William and Dolores are bound to be with each other even though they seem to be pitted against one another to get to The Valley Beyond. Dolores will call on hosts to assemble there and then it will then be flooded in one way or another.

Think of how close Delores came to meeting William And sleeping with Logan before they came to WW. I guess Angela really was her Angel. If not, she would never have gotten to see all the real world. I am thinking they are trying to sell immortality or control it rather. I think we will discover a Host James Delos. Again I think of Walt Disney. I seem to recall he was into cryogenics and wanted to come back in the future. I want to say that he was going to put his brain in a new body type of thing. I know too much about Disney stuff 😂
@NextToToddliness6 жыл бұрын
Delores wasn't used during the demo because Arnold didn't want her being made to have sex with an investor. Because that's a big part of what they're selling. Self gratification. Or rather, that's the impression I got. Especially considering we see it in the episode.
@NextToToddliness6 жыл бұрын
Also, I think William's "biggest mistake" was him showing Delores "the weapon". Which is likely a virus. I think there's more than one reason why the Hosts are biological, beyond costs.
@hfwrose67976 жыл бұрын
Also, heh the new, or possibly something I missed before, opening credits have a cell or maybe an ovum being penetrated and the mother and baby leading me to believe that Maeve's daughter might be of her cells or body in some way. That there is a biological connection. That all runs from the idea that they are, in fact, engineered humanoids/animals.
@hfwrose67976 жыл бұрын
i do think they are real, in a manner of speaking. I mean what defines life? Aren't we all just a collection of electrical impulses? What drives humanity? Societal conditioning, religious ritual, genetic programming, anthropologically evolved instinct, or our IDs? I mean you can control behaviour of the populous to a rather large degree via advertising. A marketing department decided to save the diamond business they had to make people believe it was the ultimate expression of love. Then they told us it was a month of your value then 2 to really express said love. This then elevated some and degraded others in their idea of what their worth is. That is programming isn't it? To me, it's much more complicated if you consider how little free will people are actually using. Humanity have been living their loops for the whole of history.
@hfwrose67976 жыл бұрын
"Sophia" is tricky. We can't know the extend of which is is action autonomously unless we could a)see & b) understand all of the data programmed and then collected. I wouldn't understand it so my opinion would be less than a guess right? We have to trust the "creators" to tell us the facts, which I don't lol. Perception and perspective are subjective. On Maeve's daughter, how will Maeve react when this child isn't "awake" and doesn't know her? Essentially, this "child" will see a stranger come and attempt to kidnap her, probably via strength and violence. I wonder if Maeve will have to deal with a new level of loss/suffering in that event.

PPS (promise to stop here...) Dolores has always loved William. IF they meet in the current timeline, he could easily recover his old feelings for HER now that she is fully sentient. THAT I want to see!
@ACM12166 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I believe part of the Robert's game for William is to eventually have a confrontation with a now fully sentient Dolores. I feel like that moment is gonna be pretty heavy. William and Dolores once had nothing but love for each other. Time has changed both of them and their outlooks on the world, and each other. Can they still reconcile?
@jennyvillarreal54906 жыл бұрын
...and both of them are so similar to each other now, so violent. Dolores knows that about William knowing him as the Man in Black that tormented her and her father on their ranch in Sweetwater, but does he know it about her?
@doomworship49956 жыл бұрын
If Dolores and William can reconcile their differences, after everything hey been through, and everything they now (in the present) know about each other, There is still hope for my marriage! The love between them was the truest form of love. Yes she was programmed to please the guests, but during those days of their “adventure” she was becoming sentient, no quite all the way, but close. She was innocent and William saw that, in contrast to how ugly humans can be (Logan). And he love it. I am still holding on...

Recall that the MiB was wounded at the massacre - his arm was shot and was in a sling. We see him next the next morning hiding under a pile of dead board members - his arm fully functional. He simply punched his way through the wall to retrieve the medkit and didn't use any sort of antiseptic before he carved the bullet out of his arm. He used the host tool to fix his arm because...He's a host. We know they're mining customer data and also that they're trying to transfer human consciousness into a host body - this was alluded to by the scene of Jim Delos at his retirement party who was obviously suffering from some sort of terminal condition. So let's assume they succeeded. I'm thinking the Man in Black is, in fact, a host but running the real William's consciousness (a la Jim Delos who I bet we will also see walking around). I also think Bernard is a product of this transfer technology except he's running Arnold's consciousness.

I believe that William made Dolores his sex toy. Williams wife was jealous of Dolores and didn't want her daughter near her. Dolos steps in between Dolores and William as D plays the piano, preventing an not interaction between the two. As William walks and talks he constantly watches her.

Why doesnt anyone ever bring up blackmail when it comes to the data collections? So when does Arnold die between all this? Just wondering
@enriqueGbg6 жыл бұрын
Eric Pierre Allen I think we will see very soon in this season when that happened - so long as we can identify the timeline its based in. I'll bet it will be somewhere close in the timeline where Arnold shows Dolores "our world", ie when Delos were first demonstrated the hosts to invest in the Westworld project. Arnolds loss of his son should happen first, as well as some more definitive turning point in Arnold's view of the hosts future take-over, possibly intertwined in some way.
@benjaminlindqvist62746 жыл бұрын
We saw it somewhere in season 1 right? About the time when Dolores was revealed to have the role that was written for Wyatt. After killing everyone we saw Arnold sitting in a chair in the middle of the street with Dolores pointing a gun at him. Then shot him, iirc. It is stated that this takes place just before the opening of the park.
@enriqueGbg6 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Mattias Lindqvist Yep, that should be the correct chronology. It should be the way there from what we saw in the opening of this episode that gives us the answer to what happened, how Dolores as a host were able to kill Arnold as a human. And that happened 30 years back from the series present. Why didn't management retire Dolores for having killed a human? Did Ford hide the truth by replacing Arnold with Bernard and bury the body of his collegue? Is that why no one but Ford knew Bernard to be a host (not even himself), but why do they then call him Bernard and not Arnold? I'm guessing there's something even more telling buried here...
@jennyvillarreal54906 жыл бұрын
There must not be any of the original employees at the park (other than Ford) when Bernard arrives because you would think someone would notice that a new employee that looks, behaves, sounds and has the same job as Arnold but is named Bernard would be odd.
@enriqueGbg6 жыл бұрын
jenny villarreal I don't think that's the answer either, because surely he must've met with someone else besides Ford if he was the co-creator. I can think of a way it can be that Arnold is not who we think he is and Bernard is the original all along. Ford created Bernard early to assist him for the further work to be done with the host - and of course to study him. Hence Dolores is only the first host that anyone thinks of as a host - even Ford, though he in the back of his mind knows and uses that knowledge. Of course Bernards family had to tragically disppear. Of course Bernard thinks Dolores reminds him of his son. Maybe nobody ever knew an Arnold and it was always Bernard. I haven't looked closely at season one as to see who actually refers to him as Arnold, but maybe no human ever did. Maybe Ford has programmed the host to hear Arnolds name as his co-creator when actually refer that to Bernard. I realize I'm on thin ice here because of a lot of maybe's and that what is the outcome is tin-foil-hat hypotesis. Arnold is an AI that infiltrates and corrupts the hosts. Is it again Ford or some other party (Delos maybe or even William)? Anybody that can confirm by who, to whom and where Arnold is mentioned as Ford's co-creator?
