"make the best of death , and love what's left. you're not just a time bomb, just cause you went off, don't mean your scattered everywhere, it's still there, in the palms of your hand , just give it one more chance, don't wait to understand, just find a new way." I adore Weyes Blood and everything she does. This song just hits different since the death of my 21 year old son, which I found out in May, his body found in a pond. I'm really trying to find a new way... one more day.

I read up on this. She was not famous yet, and she went to spend some time in New York City. She was able to live for free with a friend, and was so poor that she would eat from his fast-foot leftovers in the fridge. // Alone in the Brooklyn apartment, she wrote Bad Magic in a single free-form moment looking out the window with her guitar. I'm a note-to-color music theorist, and I wanted to note that she is singing that the very lowest range of her voice (a low A-flat major), so her voice has a bit of a different tone than what we usually know her by. To me, A-major very grounding and somehow metallic, but also very soothing, like a lullaby. In later live performances she would kick up the song a notch from A to B-flat (because it was obviously a strain to sing in a male tenor range.) However, the of of B-flat changes the mood, which I find is more dreamy and psychological. I feel this original A-major recording is a flat retains the true intention of "Pretty Bad Magic." Incidentally, as a filmmaker, I just did a killer video for Andromeda. I wanted it to be sort of like the compliment to Beach House's "Space Song." I ask the fans to give me some feedback and reactions to my music vid! Your, _Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

Weyes Blood [Verse 1] Get out of bed Put on some clothes And find your shoes At least there's nothing more You could really lose, now is there? [Verse 2] Drink a cup, had enough The sky don't shine on me anymore Since I been staring here at this floor For too many days Lost my way And got on this train that's running away It's carried me this far But now I can't stay Now, oh-oh [Chorus] Pretty bad magic Pretty tragic On a runaway train And I'm not going insane Things just don't stay the same And I must find a new way [Verse 3] Make the best of death And love what's left You're not just a time bomb Just 'cause you went off Don't mean you're scattered Everywhere It's still there in the palms of your hands Just give it one more chance Don't wait to understand Just find a new way [Chorus] Pretty bad magic Pretty tragic On a runaway train And I'm not going insane Things just don't stay the same And I must find a new way [Post-Chorus] One more day My soul can give It'll work out for me When I need the man That makes the blind see Through me See through me See through me

To any Flannery O'Connor fans, do you think the line about the man who "makes the blind see" might be a reference to the book WISE BLOOD? I'm thinking of the blind preacher character and how he feels he's more aware through his connection with god, despite not having eyes.
@welovepies4 жыл бұрын
Almost certainly, Weyes Blood used to be called Wise Blood after the novel! She performed as Wise Blood at the age of 15.
