@@SteakmanTexas good way to think of it IMO. One of the best feelings I had was when I could be more spontaneous with my life because I had quit smoking cigarettes. I lived a few houses from a park, but I couldn't go from playing in the yard with the kids to walking down to the park without making sure I had a pack of cigarettes with me. Love the freedom and knowing that during a zombie apocalypse I won't die from not having a certain substance.

I listened to this again as podcast during my workout this morning; I’m a Harvard grad and I’ve never bought the Harvard Health/Walter Willet craziness. I was sad to hear the whole university/alums dismissed as closed minded; granted I’m a senior citizen of an earlier era, but I learned to be open minded in college. Btw, after a lifetime of drinking coffee, decaf since 1990, I’ve given up coffee for the next 30 days to see how it affects my soreness after workout and golf.

though its a known fact that across the population an increase triglycerides from say 80 to 120 is an increase in risk, it is not a known fact that among healthy people who have the same trig increase due to nothing but coffee intake, that such an increase represents an increase in risk. I love the way st Chaffee says *you can just stop drinking it * That shows the mental strength attitude & fortitude . Yes , it’s truly that simple , but NOT easy . I quit smoking in. July 2019 & all I did was just STOP . It was hard for the first few days . 4.5 yrs later …I haven’t lit a single cigarette . I clung harder to my coffee as I also quit sugar , junk food , bad habits , night snacking , so I lie to myself and say this is all I have left it’s my mind lying to me . I’m currently on half caff strictly before noon only . Been on coffe since my aunt used to take me to work at Dunkin’ Donuts back when they wore skirts & had glass mugs . I unknowingly started my caffeine addiction at age 9 but started *needing it* in my 20s.

For 2 month I have stopped dairy, fruit, veg's, coffee & tea along with stopping alcohol 8 months ago as the low carb diet I was on for 3 months at the end of 2022 did not help. My hair has been falling badly over the last 2 months but I have only been eating red meat, lamb, seafood, bacon & eggs. I have heard other Drs saying not everyone like Dr Chaffee can stay on carnivore forever. A pleasure that I have no intention of giving up and especially enjoy the social side of meeting for coffees with friends etc. On occasions due to travelling etc I go without it with no issues. Also can enjoy it late at night and sleep like a baby. We all have different detox abilities for different toxins and the modern world exposes us daily to many most of which are much less enjoyable and potentially more harmful. We all have to live our lives and make choices on these issues and keep some perspective. My 3 coffee a day habit probably less significant to my health than my days as a carb guzzling low fat junkie! Under my calm demeanour a storm is always brewing. Will I be able today to handle the coffee smell in the house this morning and from my husband’s cup? As I lay still half asleep I contemplate the beginning of this day with very little hope and a cringe on my face. What else can I do to heal my histamine intolerance? I have tried everything I can think of without much success. Also have been considering to employ carnivore for possible healing benefits, yet still not able to give up all of my favourite plant foods, which I believe, are also keeping the microbes satisfied 😅 The concept - clearly established through Weston Price's research - of 'NOT ONE DIET FOR ALL', also makes good sense... Some really do better when consuming more animal products. Others though, do better on a predominantly plant based diet, while there also are those of us who thrive on a mixed, balanced diet. Also, in principle: Would it not be best for one to become metabolically flexible, with the ability to fluctuate between burning ketones and glucose for energy?

I am now sore AF (saturday morning) despite working out on monday, tuesday, thursday and friday. Caffeine indeed is a pesticide, and pure caffeine tastes so bitter it's disgusting. Not to mention that without it, my energy levels are good enough not to mention consistent throughout the day so I don't need a boost or a pick me up to help me get through a day's work.

I'm not a heavy coffee drinker so I really don't rely on it to get me through the day. I've not noticed any stiffness or soreness whether I am drinking it or not. As far as bitter? Well that really depends on the type of coffee and how you make it. I had a great cup in Portland and talked to the shop owner about their process which allowed me to dial in my process where it's never bitter. It's all a personal choice. If coffee makes you feel bad then don't drink it. That being said I've taken some time off from my morning coffee to see how it affects my next blood panel so maybe that will make me rethink how much I drink. Now giving up alcohol really made an impact on how I feel in general so staying away from that is very noticeable.

That was probably the most shocking thing for me, the lack of soreness. I am a former competitive powerlifter and used to being sore all the time when I train. Recently I decided I wanted to focus more on hypertrophy and developed a crazy meso-cycle that I literally couldn't even complete the first week because it had me lifting muscle groups 2x a week and the volume was just too high to recover. I started carnivore about a week ago and decided to restart my cycle and to my amazement I was recovering literally twice as fast. Still had DOMS, but it was nowhere near what I had on a low carb (plant/fruit) keto diet. That's after just one week lol, the best thing is though now I can get my calories in without eating all day and it tastes so much better and is faster to cook. My protein intake is so high now I am actually able to skip protein supplements. I admit, giving up coffee is going to be hard for me as I was raised on it (from Seattle and it was the original pre-workout), but I am willing to do so if I don't need it.

That's amazing about the squats!!! I have always drank coffee and had muscle fatigue during workouts. But I've also fasted a lot and have done a similar experiment. For 2 months I ate normal/drank coffee and did 100 squats a day. I could do two sets of 50 comfortably before fatigue. Then I did a dry fast (no food or water) and kept doing the squats. Same results on day 1 and 2 but after day 3 (72 hours) I was able to do 444 squats IN A ROW without fatigue. I actually just stopped at 444 not because I was sore but because I was laughing so hard. Ok so now I'm 10 days into strict carnivore 0 carbs and I'm a bit weak from keto flu maybe? I feel better everyday but still haven't gone to the gym. Well I was still drinking coffee this whole 10 days too but today was my last cup. Now I'm curious to see if it really is keto flu or the nasty coffee and if I'll be at the gym soon cuz I miss working out!! I was only drinking it to go to the bathroom. I'll increase fats and see if that does it.

Just curious Louise~ Are "snags" sausages by chance? By "rump" do you mean beef rump roast? My experience w/coffee has been interesting as I've been a coffee drinker~ 2-4 a day~ for decades. I'm finding that has decreased to now just one coffee w/creamin the morning, & often I don't finish it. It has begun to make me feel anxious/sketchy, & is no longer appealing or desired. Time to simply give it up, in my case. Only water besides that, meat-based for 2 yrs, low carb for several more prior. Also, never cared for eggs at all, & now I enjoy them several times a week. Interesting how the palate shifts. The longer I eat meat, (& animal products) the more I want only meat. The longer I drink only water, the more I want only water. *Also quit a 30 yr diet soda habit, which was at least 2 a day ...all that time~ errgghh. I feel pretty awful about what I fed my precious body all those years, thinking I was healthy w/all the low fat/high fiber/lean protein.

Something very interesting!!! My local coffee shop ferments the coffee beans for 2 days. I wonder if this helps with the negative effects? Yesterday I tried a new place and I told the owner wow your coffee is very different than any coffee I've tried in my life. He explained to me he ferments the beans for 2 days. I 100% know coffee is holding me back from the full benefits of carnivore but there might be some positives from fermenting the coffee beans just like fermenting in other foods. I just found it extremely interesting that this is actually a possibility. My goal (even though more expensive) is to slowly bring my 4 cups of coffee down to 1 at his cafe. Great video Dr Chaffee.

I wonder if the cause of the muscle soreness after drinking coffee is due to the loss of water and electrolytes it causes which results in depletion or imbalance. If I drink a bottle of water mixed with Redmond ReLyte after a cup of coffee, then the soreness and cramping will subside; it also just doesn't happen at all if I drink it just before a cup or just after a cup of coffee.

Ingesting limited quantities of bitter substances (including bitter coffee) is one way to stimulate the Vagus nerve, and in time upregulate Vagal tone, towards better balance between sympathetic- and parasympathetic nervous system function (as is discussed by Tony Grandov on YT). There also are many other methods towards achieving this (including Cold Exposure accompanied by Deep Breathing, and doing Coffee Enemas). CE is also a helpful tool to use to rectify chronic constipation, and can be employed to inhibit pain. It stimulates liver function in general - including increased Glutathione production, and can assist in removing intrahepatic biliary gallstones from the liver and gallbladder. CE is a component included in Gerson therapy, as well as the Kelley&Gonzales protocol; for upregulation of detoxification from broken-down cancer tissue. CE was in fact included as healing modality in the Merck Manual until the 70's.

After 2 weeks of no coffee, i suddenly noticed that i had not been having a stuffed nose for some time! So it was the coffee after all.....but i missed coffee too much and added it back in anyway 😵

Dr. Chaffee, Question: What is your take on protein drinks. I'm 3 days into carnivore, and i take 2 scopes of protein between meals, after a workout.

People also get mad when they say “feel the burn” and then I tell them there is no “burn” when you don’t have all the carb metabolites in the system.

Same here- coffee keeps me sprinting to the bathroom. For those who can tolerate coffee however, have at it!😅

Dr. chaffe, Im 58, never been obese ect (but mesiobuccally unhealthy), never been a drinker, smoker or coffee drinker, but drank diet cokes like water for 30+ years but went cold turkey with carbs/sugars and diet cokes. Decided to drink A coffee with my wife in the morning and one in the evening, it was our, what's up for today, and, at the end of the day, how did your day go today time together? Started carnivore (99.5%) in August 2022. Was talking to my wife about all of the benefits of eating this way a few weeks ago......... and I made the comment to her my fingers would slightly swell when I drank coffee........................ funny you mentioned the inflammation part in this video. Will I quit drinking coffee and negate our new ritual together, not sure? but what you say is spot on. Thank you so much for what you do.
