Hi Abby, your videos are great. I have seen quite a few youtubers who provide advice and coaching to job interviews, but yours are truly thought provoking in a good way, and you do not provide clear cut scripted answers to such hard questions that only give obvious buzz words. Instead you make me think about my answers and give strategies how how to be effective and succinct. Thank you, I am off to an interview in a few days and feel much better equipped and confident than I was before.

Abby. I have an interview for a great job. I left my last job. Because it was a toxic environment. I was always being belittled. So i took a job i dont like in a different department for the last 6months just to get out of there. Now i finally have an interview with a place is want to be. How do i go about telling the interviewer that i want to be back in the same area of work and i can do a good job.

Hi Abby, Is there any chance you could do a video for when people receive an interview for a place at university, because I tend to get nervous around interviews or when I am performing an exam by way of a skills exam. I would be grateful for your help. I do enjoy your videos and have gained a lot of information from them, especially when asking about having ques after an interview. This is one thing I never did so was lucky to get jobs I applied for, but now I am planning on going to uni to change my career path.

What if the job you are interviewing for you do not have any of the job skills that they ask for, it only has a high school diploma. I do not have any experience in this kind of job.
@LifeWorkBalance
@LifeWorkBalance Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question! So it sounds like the job minimum requirements is only a high school diploma? If that's the case, and you don't have experience with the other skills listed on the description, you'll want to describe how you are a quick learner, willing to try new things, and excited for the opportunity to challenge yourself and learn something new. Usually a job that only requires a high school diploma is entry level and they will train you how to do everything! Good luck!

These videos are amazing. I had mad respect for you before I saw this video but finding out you like to play DND has elevated your status just that much further. haha. Serious question though, instead of talking about an actual weakness, could I address what I believe people perceive as a weakness. For example, I have a bit of a baby face, I look a decade younger than I am, and I generally am easy to get a long with, so the perception is that I am a nice guy but that perhaps I can't be hard on issues. This is true, I am a nice guy and I don't like being a jerk, but I have no trouble being hard on issues or being assertive when the situation warrants - I just prefer diplomacy over scorched earth. I have concrete examples that support my assertion, would this work in answering the weakness question? I'd love to hear your thoughts...
@LifeWorkBalance
@LifeWorkBalance Жыл бұрын
Haha! D&D is a favorite of mine, that's for sure :) You could certainly use this as a "weakness" answer, you just want to make sure that you want to describe how you're working to improve this perception. You don't want to state a "weakness" (even if it isn't really one) without providing insight into how you're changing it.

@@LifeWorkBalance DND is great - I've been playing since the mid-80s. haha. Thanks for the advice, sadly, the question never came up in the interview directly, but I think I got my point across regardless. Many of the other "tough" questions were asked and I felt well prepared thanks to you! Now I am in the waiting game, which is the worst, but I should know by Thursday. Fingers crossed!

If I say “I want to leave my job b/c looking for more development” what if they said “So what if you will not develop your self with us?! Will you leave us?

Good question - I've never heard this come up this way, so it's unlikely, but not impossible! I would have ways you are excited to grow and develop prepared so it sounds like you're goal oriented and have a plan :)

@@LifeWorkBalance Nah, I am an engineer and unfortunately D&D has nothing to do with my field. I am however using your tips for job interviewws in Europe. Will try to let you know how they compare with USA. One thing I am noticing is they are a lot more deliberate and quick to ask about salary expectations. In fact, that's the first question ASML asked me, right after saying Hi

Hello. I'm disabled but not in a wheelchair or missing a limb. Do I discuss my medical limitations in my interview tomorrow?!?
@LifeWorkBalance
@LifeWorkBalance Жыл бұрын
It looks like you had your interview before I was able to get back to you! How did it go? If you will need accommodations to do the job due to your disability, this may be something you want to bring up. However, I would not recommend it yet because it could lead to discrimination. You want the interviewers to make their decision based on your knowledge, experience, skills, etc. You'll have an opportunity to disclose any disabilities requiring an accommodation later on in the hiring process.

One of your new fans from California here... can you address the matter of negative reviews on YELP?! In my industry folks come to us 'hangry', needle phobic or just plain medical phobic sometimes with expectations that are unreasonable, unsafe (standing during phlebotomy? please!) or demands out of our scope & practice but they won't take the most carefully crafted no for an answer and can be brutal in their letting off steam on social media. How do I deal? I have seen where companies will address complaints online in response via their PR person, is that ever appropriate for service workers in the medical field?? FYI employed in medical service on various levels in our medical plaza building serving the public agree doing so more recently has become increasingly difficult, on occasion toasting us to cajun black as they go if considered simply rude. Such lack of basic respect for the dentists, doctors and support staff trying to care for these folks I can tell you from the inside is a solid as to why medical staffing in certain fields and geographical regions is in crisis. I asked the ASCP consider helping us the staff and patients again just the other day(American Society of Clinical Pathologists) via PSAs in all media for simple effective public education to try an ease their anxiety and help our cause. In conclusion a curious question, do interviewers read YELP reviews?? thanks
