This was a particularly good lecture; one of the best I've seen from CSJ. 0:00-2:12 Intro 2:12-3:02 Caffeine puts ISFJs in their ESFP shadow (+19:57-20:31) 3:02-3:22 ISFJ's ENTP Sub 3:22-5:41;12:35 Responding+Control (w/ focus on IxFPs) 5:42-7:31 ISFP art thrives in freedom 7:44-10:21 Informative info 10:22-11:27;12:40-13:06 Behind-the-scenes realm 11:28-12:25 IxFP's vs. ISFJ & INTP's Te+Si 13:07-14:42 INPs' comfort zone ruts & pained compliance 14:42-15:55 ISFPs = most naturally diligent (values freedom > comfort) 16:18-17:15 These types REALLY value 1-on-1/introverted relationships 17:20-18:05 They get an unduly bad rap for this 18:06-19:29 Especially INTPs (+INFPs' daydreaming mentioned @ 19:29-19:56) 19:57-20:31 ISFJs' retiring nature (+continuation of 2:12-3:02) 20:33 Ct. Sooo accurate: life to the INTP is a giant puzzle-box and they need it. INTPs only understand pain; make them uncomfortable in order to get them out of their rut: yeah. And hitting rock bottom before growing and growing up: yes. Thanks for saying that we can get a bad rap for thriving in one-on-one relationships and to navigate carefully when more than 2 people are added; this is a thousand times harder for us than people realize (or care to understand). And I absolutely remember every single instance a trusted person has thrown me from the behind the scenes realm... I directly state (lol, being an INTP) that I don't appreciate that behavior and the really strange thing is that some people either get defensive or continue with the crap behavior, or both. You're so right in that we will remember and it does not bode well for the relationship. Appreciate your material as it's very helpful for understanding myself and others, both in working and in personal relationships.

@@t5396 There's probably a more proper term, but having interests for the interest alone, as opposed to having an interest because others are into it, it gives you social credit, you are into it for appearances only. Granted people don't mind having their hobbies and passions respected but those topics don't have to be in the spot light, and can remain very personal with out the need for other peoples approval of them.

I can remember a situation a few months ago where I was totally drained from a conflict the day before I was supposed to drive several people to an outdoor event and back, so instead of really engaging with my passengers I just turned on a little music and let them talk as I drifted in and out of my dreamworld. I could tell at least one guy thought I was genuinely pissed at someone, but I really wasn’t. I just knew the event would require a lot of extraverted energy and I wasn’t energetic enough to keep small talk flowing. I’ve held onto a spot of guilt for having needed that time to simply listen to my music and drive... until now. Thank you as always, C.S. Joseph. ☺️

So many nods. INFP here. Yep, I will remember everything people have done to me. I try to forgive and move on, but I won't forget and I'll know what not to do next time or who to stay away from. I will not face something until it gets really bad, especially if it's something I'm afraid of. The only way I grow is to have the situation get so bad that I have to face it or do something different and then I'm like, "Hey, I did it!" and I grow. Yes, I give up when I can't control things. -_- If I don't give up I end up being extremely unhappy and possibly blow up at some people. I don't know that letting go of control is necessarily a bad thing. I don't realize I'm hinting a lot of the time. I expect people to pick up on subtle cues because I do, but I've tried to learn to be more direct. Even then, it doesn't always help, but at least it's clearer. Oh, and yes, definitely need time to daydream. I tend to be really cranky in the morning if I have time for that before events. I don't know that I can advocate making people uncomfortable, even for their own good. (Makes me think of that girl that got pushed off the bridge :P) I like to let people live their lives. It's their life. You can't make someone grow. People largely don't know what they're doing or if it's even truly best, so if someone tries to push me to do things I dig my heels in and I will never forget it and their ability to help me is gone. Some of the more severe cases then caused me to have anxiety attacks being with those people in a similar setting because of being pushed previously. For some of us with mental health challenges, it becomes way more than just holding it against people. Now, God allows me to experience things that push me and cause me pain so that I will grow, but I don't hate him because he understands me, and at least knows what he's doing and has a 100% success rate. I just don't trust fallible people to do that job. God is also more gradual about it, whereas people try to help me grow by pushing me to do too much too soon, and that's when there's the greatest amount of pushback, and I tend to hate them without even getting any growth out of it. So anyway, my perspective on the subject. You've given a pretty accurate description. ^.^

I can see how true what you're saying is in my INFP sister. I'm an INFJ, so basically my whole existence revolves around growth, my own and helping others achieve it. I can't stand being stuck, or seeing someone else who is, so I want to help them. I tried helping my sister, but any time I pushed her to get out of her comfort zone I could see her feeling betrayed by me and just retreating even more in her hole. I really don't know how else to help her, it makes me really frustrated, and I end up feeling betrayed myself because of her not letting me help and not trusting me. So how could I help someone with this interaction style?
@sash8099
@sash8099 3 жыл бұрын
@@elisabettaeaglesham1858 No can convince an Infp to do anything. Just be by her side. As long as she knows you have her back. She needs to come to that realization by herself. You can't force an Infp or any IxxP type to do something they don't want. Also you might not realize this but xNFJs can be extremely judgemental and alienating. They don't realize they do this but it can be hard to trust them or open up to them again once they've demonstrated that they really don't understand you but instead judge you and talk behind your back. Enfjs do this more often than Infjs. Don't shame her unless you want to ruin your relationship with her for good. Better or for worse she needs to come that decision on her own.

I love that you mentioned how although we may be very private people and often prefer to be in one-on-one social situations. And that that doesn't make us inherently bad at interacting with people, or that we don't care about/are scared of social situations. Especially when you brought up the labelling us "hermits or "not good with people." I'm an INFP, and although I'm a student, I help teach one of the dance classes at schools (which consists of 25+ students my age). Which I might have found daunting if were to say give a speech of try to get hang out with at a party or something. But I will also disengage myself entirely when I feel like I need to, to go do something some sort of art activity for myself. So I both enjoy and am able to interact with many people, as well as disengage when I need to. It bothers me when people assume that we are anti-social or that we live in our rooms, when they often only see half the show.

The disengaging bit reminds me of this one time I was out in the woods with my cousins friend group. I didnt know anyone and I was socially done by the time we set up the firepit and so as we sat around it I didnt say another word, but for the first time ever I just thought nothing. I was just in this space between reality and my mind. And so for 5 hours I said nothing and thought nothing and heard nothing. It was the most amazing thing ever honestly.

I think that's the biggest give away. I'm not comfortable in my rut, not in the slightest. It's like a living hell inside my head. But I'm getting on things now, understanding no one is coming to save me but me. I think the biggest realization I've had recently that helped with that is that I feel so much rage because I've allowed people to walk all over me to an almost literal degree. Not putting up boundaries, not protecting my child function (or inner child) and as a result you get that Si critic "you remember when" kind of grandparent like statement that makes me feel like garbage, and get lethargic/idle. But now I understand. Now I see why boundaries are so important. Not just for me but for others too. So that way they know when they've crossed that line. That way I don't spend the next 4 years regretting things I did or didn't do because I was too weak, or didn't set boundaries at all. It's also why i need to start working on racking up some actual life achievements. My therapist says it's a miracle all on it's own that I can even smile, considering some of the crap I've seen and been through. But that's not enough. I need those achievements, and I know I do. Because when others legitimately feel good about the things I do, I feel good about myself. Albeit uncomfortable because I always had those moments robbed from me as a kid pretty much at every turn. But the days of abusing my own inner child through my depression are over. It's amazing how all these pieces started to fit so neatly together once I understood that. Like now I can see the whole picture, the reason why.

I’m an INTP. I didn’t understand what you meant by cryptic and hinting (I’m usually the one calling it out if not mistaken) But then I realized this is what I do with my friends: I lay a trap by starting a conversation a certain way, then I wait for them to get caught in it, then I use Ne-Si to bring back an inside joke or something embarrassing I remember about them. With my INFJ sister, I do this all the time to get responses out of her. Especially when she clams up in social settings where i end up « being her mouth » and reading her thoughts out loud when presenting knowledge we learned together. (I use that vulnerability to tease her mercilessly while doing it too)

ISFJs are all about control and respectability. Do not make your parent look bad! Or, go to the opposite end of the spectrum and be the black sheep, and your ISFJ parent will single you out among the kids and coddle, commune with, and adore you. If you like to debate to come to a conclusion, to Speak The Truth, to be whimsical and imaginative, to demand that people be respected but also stand up for themselves, to be an idealist living for an ethereal purpose, and you have very little need for or Si comforts, you will probably NOT fare well. At least that is my experience as an INFJ.

Man, the worst part when I was first introduced to MBTI was using all the descriptions of my type (INTP) as an excuse for all my actions like 'hey I'm an INTP and they INTPs act this way, therefore what I'm doing is fine'. A month later I realized what I was doing and decided to put everything I learned about typology (MBTI) in the trash - It was very difficult tbh but I was able to anyways. Few months later, since the initial lockdown due to Covid, a video from Objective Personality showed up in my recommended and I thought maybe I should give typology another chance and this time I'm going to learn the cognitive functions. Since then, instead of using typology as some kind of horoscope, I tried to connect what I know about myself and people I'm close with to what I learn every time I study the types. Still, I think I'm an INTP, with comfort zone problems. Although I don't think I'm taking psychology when I go to college (I prefer biology over any other sciences, especially taxonomy and nomenclature, and bits of paleontology and prehistory), I want to try to go as in-depth as I can with Jungian analytical psychology and hopefully this does help me in a lot of ways especially in developing relationships. - INTP, love from Ph

This is really sounding like me. I like working behind the scenes. I don't like being around people who are loud in public, although I think that is because I lived in Sweden for a few years, and the Swedes are MUCH quieter in public (for example, on buses) than in America. So I think that just kind of grew on me. I can't stand it when a guy doesn't pick up on my hints, and then when I finally yell at him to leave me alone, he's shocked and surprised and wondering what's wrong with ME-it's like that stereotypical person who keeps petting a dog who doesn't want to be petted, and the dog keeps growling, and then the dumbass person cries when the dog bites him and he doesn't understand what happened. My most recent type (on the test in your link) seems to be INTP now, which I've never gotten before, but now I'm curious about it. (In the past, it was always something like INFJ, INFP, INTJ, and IS-somethingsomething. I think once I also got ENFJ.) But at least I think I am probably definitely an "N" type. And probably IN. Just not too sure about the last two letters. But your videos are helping! Little by little, I am gathering more info. You know what might be cool is if there was a test that combined esoteric stuff with personality types, and maybe there would be like 144 personality types or something, because it's being categoried by a person's "soul type" (starseeds, lightworkers, earth angels, etc) and mix-and-matching it with MBTI and other stuff. ::shrugs:: Just an idea, lol 18:39 Wow, and that part towards the end where you mentioned the one INTP lady who does events with her husband but then has a need to disengage from the others... That really 100% sounds like me! And it happens really suddenly, like.. I feel like I don't get much of a warning when that feeling is about to hit me-the feeling of: "holy f*** I need to get the f*** away from these people immediately." and I just get up and leave without a word (I always try to do it quietly. No flipping of tables or anything. lol)

Even when at a job I didn't like which was very controlled I found a way to do things at my own pace. I did not like working with people because they'd go at different speeds and expect me to do things at different times. I never confronted them because I was too shy though. A lot of the time I will do things for people but I do not like it as much when I am asked to do things for them. My whole life I was told by my parents to lose weight and given timetables and taken to do things and it never happened and I hated it. I only ever lost it when I did it in my own way and at my own pace. Also as a kid when we had huge family gatherings I'd often seperate and just sit upstairs in the dark for a bit listening to the charter and daydreaming. Also at my last job I'd often go upstairs into the filing room or find an isolated place in the warehouse to just be alone with my thoughts. And saying one on one is still Introverted is very telling. When at someone's house I'll often seperate from the group to speak to one person. At my own house I spend most of the time alone, or with my brother, or just my dad watching TV for a bit. When they hang and ask me to be with them I rarely ever do it.

Thanks for the interesting content. I'm not that much into the idea of human personality being something fixed, but sill I find the accuracy of your theories very intriguing. Have you ever thought about how birth order or how much attention we get from our parents determines our personality types? I'm most probably an INFP, second-born (background type). My older brother is an ESFP (starter) and my younger sister an INFJ (finisher). So: starter - background - finisher. It makes perfect sense. My father is most probably an ISFJ (background like me) and is also second-born. My mom is an ESFP (starter), first-born like my brother. I can definitely see an analogy here. Also many psychological studies show that middle-born children usually get the least attention from their parents, so they tend to do things on their own, might be very much in their heads and feel unseen, which is actually something background types often suffer from according to you. Of course, it's not always the case that middle-born children are somehow neglected, but I think they're at greater risk of this happening to them. I always tried to be independent, prove my worth to others and ''show them all'', which my little sister finds hilarious, because she doesn't have such a strong need to prove anything to anybody. Our birth order and in result our personalities might explain it though.

As intp/isfj, i am very private. The thing is, i have trained myself to be not that private. The result is, i still really private. After getting hurt, it's extremely hard for me to forgive, EVEN AFTER I SAID I FORGIVE SOMEONE AND BE KIND TO THAT PERSON. The feeling is barely moving on.

O gosh!! Am I that predictable?? Lol Great analysis on ISFPs, but how to improve then? C'mon guys, the truth is J types love deadlines, have high expectations on us, and we can't just be always on our own. It is just how it is, life happens out there. Some of us have our 9am-5pm jobs to do, planner bosses, coworkers or friends. That can be tough, big time!! I would rather improve my time management/planning skills. In fact, I have been already doing this to get more things done. Let me know if you have a series of videos on self development.

ISFP here, my Te manifests not as fear of what people think of me so much as me never being surprised if people who like me change their mind revealing a truer negative attitude they have. Most don’t but I have let go of minding what others think of me because I cannot control that and people change their minds rather easily. Plus, as you have said before, we SFPs are poor at reading people’s ill intention on the spot. I may get home and know clearly I was scammed because my Fi felt uneasy during the interaction then my Se remembers the details and corroborates my feelings but by then I have made a poor decision or something. Another note is that I was in a group and the president made fliers in which our two names and phone numbers as contacts were given for everyone to see. Needless to say she had to arrange to take my info off the fliers before there were released. Being an extrovert she didn’t conceive of someone not wanting that info out there but I was very willing to black-out my info myself if necessary. C S Joseph, your videos are a gift to humanity. I appreciate your efforts and investment of heart and hours you give to produce such insightful videos! Thanks over and over!

As an INTP if I'm all tapped out yeah I detach and go to a quiet place and recharge if any extrovert tries to get me to socialize when I can't and they continue doing that that will make me dig my heels in and stand my ground if I'm stressed I'll be in my own space which I would say in not too many words to leave me alone

I have more questions than I have time to watch videos. I've watched the Direct/Informative lecture, but I don't remember what it said about this. I've felt certain about my parents' respective types since I first read through the descriptions years ago. I've been sure for years that my dad is an INFP and that my mom is an INFJ. Since I started using the type grid I've been thinking INTP for him. But the interaction style is the same for him either way, so never mind. The problem I'm now having is that Dad isn't very talkative. Information does not flow from him like it does from my ISFJ dad-in-law. Even the name of the interaction style fits him. He's informative in that he'll tell you that you're out of milk, but he won't give you the history of the dairy industry the way both my father-in-law and my ENFP husband will. And Mom isn't hugely abstract. She is, but not like me and my dad are. He and I get into abstractions about the goofiest things and from some pretty unusual angles. That's not her. How abstract does a person have to be in order to qualify as abstract? And how talkative does an informative person have to be? Actually, never mind the question about abstractness. I just answered it for myself. My mom recently took the test at 16 personalities and got ISFJ. I know that's wrong. I'll ask her a few questions from the type grid to get her set straight. Oh. Mom took one of the tests. That's huge. I've been talking about all of this for at least ten years and she's never been very interested. For her to have taken a test, something must have changed. She didn't say so, but it's obvious. Since I've found your work and have started applying it to my (her) family, she's gotten interested. I never thought that would happen. It didn't occur to me as possible. What I'm doing with it now is new and making a difference for my family and Mom noticed. Wow. Thanks, Chase. Okay. I know that behind-the-scenes types can be talkative because my husband's dad would go forever. But are they necessarily? That's the hitch in my typing my dad.

I am ISFP. I also do not like art so much, and i like to gain new knowledge everyday especially about culture and history. I'm into logical thinking but my introverted feeling is very strong too. Only my age at 30, i really knew i want to pursue filmmaking. While watching film, i prefer film with a good message rather than a good art that need to dissect everything about it's ending (metaphor). Before this, i just going with the flow in work and my work before this do not related with any form of art.

Speaking to economic regulations, they are inherently unfair, and counter-productive for that matter. They allow the government to pick winners and losers, instead of supply and demand. I'm not just talking out of my butt here either. Finance degree from a top school, top of the clase. Highest test average in econ theory classes, and even when I was arguing against what I'm saying now, I got highest essay scores, even though I knew why and how the argument for government regulation is incorrect. There should be no regulations and one law, no fraud. Off topic sure, but crucial for people to know and understand

Through many cognitive function tests and some of your INTJ-centric videos, I've become more certain that I'm INTJ but right now, I'm wondering if does feeling betrayed when others talk about you without your knowledge only apply to behind-the-scenes? Cause when I find out my friends talk about me to other people I don't even know, I feel that way.

Idk if you respond to your earlier videos; which I really enjoy because they seem the most imperative to building a foundation to learning all of what you're teaching. My question is does the comfort and recharging time only apply in no more than 1 or 2+ people settings or are their exceptions. An example would be a family. Husband 3 kids and ISFJ wife. Can she still recharge in that setting or not? Bonus question: You talk a lot about the importance of raising/ nurturing a child as well as nuclear families, but I haven't found any seasons dedicated to that. If you plan on it then great. If you haven't... Then you're welcome for the material. That would be incredibly helpful for parenting a generation properly, but also educating them on this to bring about change.

I've found this entire set of videos very helpful and informative, but there is one thing here I disagree with a bit. I don't feel that as a direct communicator I disregard context. I have an extremely high value on context. I think the difference is that, while sometimes I am capable of determining someone else's context, depending on how well I know them and/or the situation, I don't feel that it's my job to, I feel that they should at least reference the context that they are speaking within, instead of leaving all of it between the lines. If you are communicating something, it's my job to do my best to understand and respond and clarify where needed, it's not my job to fish for half of the communication 🤷

I learned this the hard way. When I was young, I tend to give hints on what I wanted to say but got frustrated because no one would understand. Until I realized that I should be open to them at least even for a bit and be somewhat in between direct and informative because communication at work is a key to success. I am somewhat direct when it comes to giving procedures but most of the times, I'm informative + a bit of directness when sharing knowledge to people. I'm still figuring out cognitive functions because I've gotten different results from different tests until I found out about these cognitive functions.

Why do you insist that the ISFP focuses on their art so much? I dont think that is always the case. As good an artist as they can be, they dont always make it a priority in their lives; its just something they can do well and thanks to Se-Ni and enjoy when doing it because it's a form of self validation; they're creating something they consider to be a rare natural skill set weather its whether its in the fine arts, Music or language. Not all of them are amazing dedicated artist posting their shit on instagram who can't wait to get home and keep working on their art. For a lot of them its true, but at least not at every point in their lives. 🤔
