I loved your comment right at the beginning with "the wrong choice of words"! You have given me a lot of help. I am not breeding rabbits, nor am I raising them. However, I am writing a novel and in the book my main character is getting bunnies from a pet store and I needed lots of help with knowing color and how to describe them. Plus one bunny purchased has babies shortly after they get them home. So the genetics was another home run! I will be mentioning you and your KZbin channel in the acknowledgements for all your wonderful information. THANK YOU!!!!!

When I first got into rabbits, I researched color genetics. It is fascinating. My holland/Mini lop is a Chinchilla/Agouti with a saddle. I had a dwarf hotot with perfect eye bands. I had a charlie Broken tri-color mini rex. And a black otter with silvering Netherland dwarf. Yes, I went around collecting bunnies at one point in my life. Don't judge. Color genetics are awesome in Buns!

26:46 thanks for making this, I got a rescue this week and thought he was an agouti but no white markings, then you mentioned sable, he has black smudge nose, ears, tail, feet, but when you started on tort, that is more his smudge nose. Most similar to 26:46 so I'm not 100% his fur doesn't have bands, more orange to cream skin looks black? Bizarre! He was supposed to be a mini lop but is bigger than the ones I had previously and can raise his ears right up unlike them. So I was thinking agouti or chestnut but think both were wrong 😂 x

Agoutis of all kinds have some form of ticking. Its really cool each hair has multiple colors so if you blow on their fur its easy to see the layers of colors. Its so interesting. With our mix rabbits our chocolate chin mini rex mix (oddly part lionhead but unlike his sisters who looked like lionheads he came out all rex looking with no hint of the lionhead) a lot of them end up being opal, chocolate chin, other levels of greys. Some blue greys etc (cant remember what blue grey is called lavender?? Idk its like a Scottish blue cat color). Eli its hard to see but shes broken opal. His babies with her come out broken chocolate chinchillas and other levels of colors. It is such a cool gene. Interesting enough all of Cupid's (the chocolate chin mini rex lionhead I mentioned) sisters and brothers that looked lionhead came out that black otter color and pattern. His mom was the mini rex his mom looked like what I've seen labeled as castor. She had one lionhead looking girl that was her color all fluff. The rest were black otter and then there was Cupid super pale silvery grey lol. He had the ticking though it was more diluted than a typical chinchilla. I was told by people in the rabbit group he is "chocolate chinchilla with wideband"? Not sure what the wideband is not that far into the video yet. We have some tri mini rexs (purebred). Princess they told me is a booted tri color. Her daughter and an unrelated male she had that I bought are broken blue tris? Instead of the black its a blue grey but then the orange and white as well. Comet is a pretty boy. Princess won't be bred since she is recovering from an owl attack. Her color is super cool though its like with a TV if you turn the saturation up. She has a huge patch of an orange like color and then small black spots and a white belly and feet etc.

I actually have a question on lop-eared bunnies. I am thinking to adopt another bunny to my fluffle and she is labeled as a "lop ear mix". She has though ears that are at a "helicopter" state and have not flopped completely down. In fact, they are nearly standing upright, but just curved downwards and look like propellers. Are there lops that just never get their ears to lop? Or are there ways to massage or something to make it so the ears can lop? I think the girl is so cute, and of course I love all animals/bunnies, but this was something that stood out to me and I feel I've not seen. I have seen lops with one ear up and one down... but that usually would fall over time. But this girl is already over 10 months old and doesn't seem to show signs of lopping. Do you have any ideas on these types of lop-eared bunnies?

I guess I should have waited till the end to ask questions! You've explained the above. Thank you Did I learn my lesson of patience? No.
@TheKelleyBunch Жыл бұрын
Got it all right at the end. Took two watches to understand it all. Still confusing. I need help with the chocolate silver martens vs chocolate otter. I think the otter would have the tan behind the ears/nape of neck and tan ring around the nose.
