Explorer dude, may I suggest that you take the lead items home with you? Any lead that we can remove from the environment, however small, is a good deed. Yes, I know that the amounts are small, but if we all remove a tiny bit, it adds up. I have my own box of scrap lead, and I’m not a tree hugger.

EA, make yourself a raised manual agitating sifter box that has the openings sized so that a dime will not fall through but everything else that is smaller will fall through. You will be able to shovel and sift large quantities of river gravel and sands and find those coins you are looking for. If you win the lottery ( you'll have to go over to Florida for the tickets ) then you can buy a Keene suction dredge which will allow you to suck up lots of river sediment and run onto a sifter screen. You can size the intake to not allow large rocks but still suck up small objects like coins. After you are tired of sucking up coins you can use the dredge to search for small gold nuggets and gold dust that you can catch in a sluce box. If you have a water pump you can buy a suction nozzle and make your own suction dredge from parts you have have laying around. Lets start moving some real paydirt on that city creek. Go big or go home :-)
@ExploringAlabama7 жыл бұрын
That's a lot of time and money for a spot not much larger than a big kitchen table. The walls and base of this city creek are concrete and this one spot has been washed out so lots of flavor gets stuck in this spot. Also the walls are 5' tall there are no steps so you have jump down into it and pull your way out. Also its in the city, I prefer to be quiet, not run a dredge that will have 500K people standing over me wondering what I am doing. Plus I'm not in the best part of town. Just some info to help everyone understand. Being quiet is the main point, yes it is a public city creek, but people usually don't "play" in them.
@freezeinak7 жыл бұрын
I get your drift EA, but having a good rocking sifter would definitely come in handy in your future endeavors on land and in the water. Maybe not so much the suction dredge if you're concerned about the noise drawing a crowd. There will definitely come a time when you discover some neat location and you'll wish you had a good working sifter to search for artifacts and coins etc. Anyway, good luck and I enjoy your treasure hunting video adventures very much.

The lead does not leach. Birds are the only thing poisoned by lead on land, and that is if it is small and round. The Iron goes back into the earth (i.e sinking ships for habitats, salt and freshwater. A pinpointer would be constantly beeping.

yep! and also, if people dropped change in the street and looked down to pick it up, some would not bend over for a penny, so it gets left....but, if it was a nickel or a dime, either the person that dropped it or the next along the street would pick it up. That is why it is mostly pennies.Me - I bend to pick up pennies - you never know when you will need one!

The water looks crystal clear, but you use robber gloves.. Is the water drinkable? I'm not a fanatic about nature, but in my country (Denmark) where citizens and government are really focused on preservation of the nature, still we have a lot of streams with water that contains large amount of nitrates from the agricultural industry (= farming). Backpacking in Sweden above the Arctic Circle is a pleasure. No industry of any kind, - only airborne waste from far away have a chance to contaminate the water in creeks and floods. You can drink all water there. Regards from Denmark
