from what i've heard, less overlords and more underlords. furries prop up a lot of technical infrastructure and are even in a myriad of scientific fields so if there was a concerted effort they could probably knock over a lot of dominoes from the bottom up... no pun intended.

Inevitable outcome, considering the furry costume and identity is like another layer of pseudo-anonymity enhancing the activity in privacy related hobbies. At least that's what I'd like to believe and there is no study around proving the odds for either being true nor false.

Leaving the moral debates about the existence of furries aside, they are just one of the groups that thrive in the great vastness of the internet, a place that has served as home to many groups that a conservative status quo wants to bury. And as governments and corporations are increasingly uninhibited in making it clear that they want to control the way society acts and thinks, such groups will certainly use their hobbies and peculiarities as a flag of resistance. It's not surprising that the lore of Cyberpunk (the tabletop RPG that also gave birth to Cyberpunk 2077/Edgerunners) portrays the titular punks as rebellious groups who embraced their peculiarities and made them their current face and identity, to the point of seeming quite stereotypical.
