Hey bro! Here’s a video I did on a panted boat, a Formula. (All formula’s are Imron painted) don’t mind the part where I was saying I got it wrong, because when I originally quoted the boat, it ended up being more than what I anticipated. But if you watch the last part of the video where it shows me and the other guy detailing it, that is the part you want to pay attention to. That is the steps that we did to that one, given the condition that it was in.

It depends if it had a protection In it or not. I would use a cleaner wax to remove black streaks

I don't wash the gel coat with bleach but I have a stamoid bimini with a strataglass enclosure on our trawler in Florida that stays up all the time. The underside of the bimini gets covered in mildew in about two to three weeks time. I've tried everything to remove it, three or four different commercial "Mildew Removers" which did nothing at all, vinegar solutions (not much less acidic than bleach), spray 9, commercial vinyl cleaner etc. I even tried a pressure washer. The only thing that I have found that gets the mold off is a mild bleach solution, which is allowed by the manufacturer of Stamoid. Once I get the top clean I've tried to prevent the mold from coming back with mildew stain prevention sprays but they didn't help at all either, they literally had no affect. I mix the solution as weak as I can but strong enough that it will still work, about two or three ounces of bleach per gallon of water. Before scrubbing the top I also wet down all of the gel coat surfaces and the strataglass that may get drips. My enclosure is pretty well ventilated, I leave the door open all the time. Same deal with my Phifertex window covers, but those I can take off and put on the dock for cleaning. Taking the bimini down is a four hour job, so that is not an option. I'd prefer to not use bleach at all, but I haven't found another solution that actually works in the real world. Any suggestions? I enjoy your channel, thanks for all the good info.

Thanks for following along on the channel! 303 makes a pretty good mold and mildew remover, otherwise just warm water with with a lot of Dawn dish soap helps a lot as well.

Hey bro! We don’t really have an oxidation removal starter kit. However, here’s a Mai fence kit we offer shinesupply.com/collections/marine-products/products/boat-line-maintenance-kit For oxidation I would start out with shine supply, heavy cut, then switch to chop top to break it down, then burn out to remove the light Swirl and, scratch marks.

Some guy yesterday at my marina said he was using bleach on a boat and I told him it's an acid it will etch the gelcoat. I had just watched this video, but I already knew bleach would etch gelcoat. It is an older Grand Banks (1980's vintage). He said there is lead in the gelcoat so bleach is ok. It's not his boat, he was hired by someone to wash it. Anyway, I am pretty sure he is full of it. Is lead in older gelcoat a thing? I've never heard of that and I've been around boats a long time.

Idk how normal ppl have the time or money to maintain gelcoat properly.. its too much. Im glad i doensized to a true fishing cc thats a lil beat up. I care so much less about these things. Pressure washing is about as far as im going to go. All the areas i sanded, buffed, waxed still ended up with growth on them anyway. It was pointless.
