Hi Karli! Sending good vibes from Seattle. I’m a plant based Momma as well. I went through a past of extreme dieting and working out daily! I lost weight and had to gain some weight back through eating more and letting my body rest. I will say it has not been easy. It is a mind game for sure and I am trying to embrace the gained weight. I can tell my body is recovering and happier. Thank you for sharing. You are an inspiration!

Thank you! You too! I'm really surprised by how many people suffer from this. I feel it should be more openly discussed among the medical community. Glad you're feeling better!

Hi 👋 I never heard of your condition 🥰 thanks for the info 😊it’s great to see a KZbinr from WI💃 I’m a hiker too and I’ll check those spots out. I’m near WI Dells so I’m excited to check those trails out‼️my hubby doesn’t like to hike so I’m a solo hiker at times too 😂

Hi neighbor! Yes, you must hike the bluffs in LaCrosse. Absolutely breath-taking!

Still lots of low calorie density options there....don't forget to make the process easier for yourself and help reduce the bloating to reduce veggie consumption and have higher density options like nuts and seeds and dried goods. Hiking is great to take oat and nut cookies! Eating more density makes the bloating not as bad. It took about 6 months for my body to redistribute the weight from my stomach to everywhere else! I literally looked 7 months pregnant for 6 months hahahaahahaa!!!! 😚😚😚 Is it because of the weather that you won't get any more hikes in this year, or just a busy time of year?

Thanks, Sandy! That timeline is really helpful. I had to buy a whole new wardrobe to hide my "prego" belly. The bloating has finally subsided as well. I'm just such a sucker for those non starchy veggies🤤 🥗 lol! It was our last hike because of my condition and an inability to find reliable babysitters... and yes, the weather, for sure. 🥶

?? Q - Do you have a video for traveling overseas? We'll be non-stop busy for 2 weeks and staying at a new hotel almost every night. I'm having a small slow cooker or small pressure cooker mailed to our first hotel, but will have to stick with super simple meals since I won't always have a refrigerator or freezer. I be making my typical oat groats for breakfast every day, so breakfast is done. I guess I'll have to make a lunch each morning before we leave the hotel, and hope to have time and energy to prep dinner whenever we get to a hotel. I am familiarizing myself with stores in each area we're going, and planning stops to shop. Any tips?

You sound like a total pro! Keeping meals simple and bringing healthy snacks/meals when leaving the hotel is great. And I love how you’re doing a ton of research ahead of time to determine what restaurants/markets are in the area. You’ve got this!

I love your hiking and eating videos! I would love to hike and run on those beautiful trails. Thanks for sharing Karli! Are you doing any smoothies at home? Are you still leaving out nuts and seeds, besides flaxmeal? Is your energy and sleep good with the increase in calories? Also was wondering, did you try any hormonal methods to try and jump start your cycle or is that not recommended for your condition?

Hi Elizabeth! I am not currently doing smoothies but I really should. It would give my gut a break. I eat lots of flax and nuts when I’m away from home and need a snack. My sleep is MUCH better!!! Energy is still lagging as it is extremely physiologically expensive to repair everything I’ve damaged over the past few years. There’s a lot of rebuilding of tissues, bone, blood vessels, etc. I’m hoping my energy will return after this phase is complete though. Thanks for asking.😊💕❤️‍🩹

Hi Karli, I'm glad you and your boyfriend had a wonderful weekend. I too had a very slow metabolism and my periods stopped when I followed a very restrictive diet a few years ago (not WFPB). My doctor did not give my condition a long name and I put on weight without any advice - by overeating and binge-eating of course. I can see you are eating a lot of healthy food but you seem to have put on a lot of weight very quickly so I wonder if you should get a second opinion (maybe a consult with Dr Lisle?) because you don't want to get any bigger or you will feel awful. Your periods will come back, but it might take a few months. Please do not overdo the eating and resting or your weight could balloon back. If it was me, I would slow down the eating, you don't need all this food. Like me, you seem to be a perfectionist and an all-or-nothing person. Please consider gradually reducing your current food intake because your body's fullness/hunger cues might be deceiving you, for example for psychological reasons, because you're worried about fertility, etc. But getting fat is not the solution. I hope you will think about it. Your tummy will settle and not stick out this much but if I were you, I would stop eating this huge amount of food because it could lead to other issues and health problems. Whatever you do, take very good care of yourself, you are a strong, intelligent woman. Many doctors worry if they see a very slim patient and would rather you stayed within the BMI range even though personally, I know BMI does not reflect what is the right weight for me. Also, there are plenty of very slim women who have children, just think of all women in developing countries, or Victoria Beckham. Putting on a lot of weight and persuading yourself it is necessary may not be the best option and it would worry me if I were in your position. Best wishes, Lulu

Thanks for your thoughts, Lulu. But I am very comfortable in my decision to listen to my body. I highly recommend you read “No Period. Now What” by Dr Rinaldi. Or watch my last video for a summary. It is unfortunate that much of our society maintains the viewpoint that someone who has suffered from years of starvation and malnourishment should continue restricting their intake upon recovery. Our bodies are smart. I am 💯 committed to this approach after my recent research engagement. Learning about the Minnesota Starvation Experiment helped me to understand how our bodies require a higher weight than what had previously been established to baby our hypothalamus and convince it that we are no longer in a war or famine. Then, in time, my weight will naturally level back down if allowed proper rest and nourishment. I understand your concerns. I had the same ideas. Thankfully there is a healthy, natural way to recover my health after damaging it unknowingly for so long.
