Why is it that the plane literally went in a giant circle around the Pentagon and then flew at street level (without hitting any telephone or light poles) and hit the exact place where all the evidence of the 2.3 trillion dollars that was reported missing the day before by Rumsfeld? It could have been WAY more easily hit it on it direct path by going straight and hitting other side…. So it decided to take more time, go around, fly damned near at street level and hit that one place all while they had the threat that a missile or plane would shoot them down before they could hit their target. That doesn’t make any sense. Now, firing a missile into the 1 area that held all the evidence that some people in the government stole and blaming it on a plane…. Even though it is much worse…. Makes a lot more sense… there should be some video evidence from that heavily surveilled building… 1 single video that actually shows a plane hitting or at least coming at the Pentagon…. But it doesn’t exist supposedly. And if that is a lie… and Building 7 that was never hit by a plane carrying jet fuel that weakened the steel, which is the reason the Towers fell they say…. How did it fall in its own footprint? There were many other buildings that were damaged way worse and were on fire too…

Kind of. Flight 93 was hijacked much later than the other 3 planes. By the time Ziad Jarrah had turned the plane towards DC, the Capitol building was being evacuated. If the plane had hit the building, it might've already been fully or partially evacuated.

IF you're in a building that has been attacked once before and see one that is on fire that's most likely a sign to get out before something else bad happens. She knew what she had to do and did it and glad she was able to get other people out as well just sorry the ones 3 floors above weren't able to make it out. They had one of the towers emptied out (not sure if it was that one) and felt it was safe for everyone to go back to work. IT been me I would had left instead of heading back up to my office, you know in the pit of your stomach something bad is bound to happen. One tower was crashed into ON purpose. So sad a beautiful sunny morning turned into a tragic nightmare.

I could've lost 2 of my cousins that day. 1 cousin was a flight attendant for united and ended up calling out sick that day. He was suppose to be on this flight. one of his very close friends of his had to take over for him and lost her life that day. To this day, he has not been on a plane since then and retired the next day dealing with survivors remorse and hasn't been the same since 9/11. his brother which makes it even more crazy was a white house staffer. He worked for presidents Reagan up to Trump before retiring. If that plane didn't crash into the fields of PA and my cousin didn't call out to work that day, I could've lost both of my second cousins.

This really puts into perspective how monumental 9/11 was those of us who weren’t old enough to remember it (or younger - I was 1 and a half.) Never having seen the towers irl (or not remembering it) and never seeing the pentagon on fire on live tv makes it feel like a historical event instead of a modern tragedy to the younger generation. But we’ve seen the Capitol building, and we’ve seen the White House (many times if you’re in the dc area) and just imagining seeing such famous structures collapse, even not fully, really puts into perspective how people even just slightly older than us feel about what did happen.

I was four but even then i never witnessed the Towers or the Pentagon on fire. My earliest memory is of a few years later where we would remember what happened. Seeing the mock images of the White House on fire really struck a nerve with me because like you said, it puts in perspective how monumental 9/11 was, regardless of the theories out there, in which two of this countries biggest symbols were spared because a flight was delayed and the passengers were aware of what would happen if they didn't take back the plane.

I remember it, and being four, I was a bit angry that one of my favourite TV-family shows was not on in time. I think it was about the coast guard of the north sea, but I do not remember for certain. What I do remember, are the pictures of two large towers burning heavily and I think I even remember one scene of a person jumping out of there to certain death, but I am not sure I saw that.

I was in middle school when 9/11 happened. I live in California, so I didn't see anything live as I had yet to even wake up for school yet. Once I got there, it was what everyone was talking about. I remember all the scared looks of the adults. There were no lessons that day, all of my teachers just had the news on. It was the moment I "grew up", as I had never seen something like that. My mom took my siblings and me out of school early. I remember looking outside when the sun was setting that evening and I asked my older brother, "Nothing will ever be the same again, huh?" He just shook his head.

I was 11. I still have the occasional nightmare. The nightmares aren't about what I saw on tv. It was pretty abstract. Instead I dream that I'm there, in the towers before the first plane hits and I know everything that's about to happen. But I can't warn anyone. Every time I try, something stops me. I lose my voice or I get interrupted and can't get back their attention. In the end, all I can do is try to convince them to avoid the elevators and then help evacuate.

It is crazy to think that prior to 9/11, airplane hijacking was an AMAZINGLY common occurrence, it happened like once per month around the world. Frequently the hijackers would ask for large sums of money or divert the airplane to another country seeking asylum or something. Crews were trained to deal with this scenario, so there was no need for panic inside the cabin (in many cases passengers weren't even aware of the situation, like the infamous Dan Cooper hijacking). This was the flaw that allowed the surprise factor - no one could foresee a suicidal crash following an "ordinary" airplane hijacking, let alone four happening simultaneously. This evil planning is beyond horrendous

Well they didnt know they were ALL going to die in a crash, there were a lot more passengers than hijackers on the flight, they figured they'd break the door down, rush the hijackers in the pilot and co pilots' seats and take back control of the plane, even if nobody could fly the plane plenty of such non pilots have had to land planes with instructions from the tower, they might still crash trying to land on the runway, but with auto pilot and all the rest helping, it would still be possible. Somehow they crashed instead, we'll never know if the hijacker at the controls just yanked the controls and sent it into a steep dive when the door was broken in, or what happened

The crazy thing is that most people don't realise and doesn't seem to be talked about much was, the north tower was hit before 9am, and the south tower hit at 9am, afterwards. This meant that building was no where near full, not everyone had arrived. Only 15,000 people were in the buildings at the time, with a normal weekday population of 50,000 plus 200,000 daily visitors. If the Hijackers had hit the towers, an hour later, at 9:46 and 10:03, the death toll would have been so much larger.

the lead hijacker for flight 93 got cold feet a few months before and almost didn’t follow through with the attacks. he wasn’t really like the other hijackers. he had a girlfriend he met in germany while in collage who challenged a lot of his political views. generally he was well liked by most people he met. by all accounts he was a “normal person” with a positive temperament. he went to parties in collage, was popular in social situations, especially with westerners, he didn’t really outwardly express his religious or political beliefs, he even roomed with one of his american classmates from flight school while in florida. he probably took 45 minutes to gain control of the plane because of his nature. he obviously wasn’t an innately violent person. or capable of masterminding anything like this. he was radicalized and taken advantage of due to his religious convictions and political beliefs that likely already existed to a much smaller degree. terrible person no doubt. but he was the only one of the hamburg cell that showed any apprehension, or who lived a life that wasn’t entirely consumed by religious or political ideologies. by all accounts Ziad al-Jarrah was a normal guy with a normal life. he called is girlfriend a few hours before he boarded flight 93 and apparently had a normal conversation. definitely doesn’t fit the bill of a suicidal terrorist. aside from the heroics of the passengers of that day, and the flight being delayed, i think who Ziad al-Jarrah was as a person probably also has something to do with the reason why flight 93 took longer to be hijacked and ultimately failed in its mission.

The Capitol Building being hit could have also potentially resulted in the loss of the Library of Congress and/or the National Archives, both of which contain large portions of America's historical legacy. The loss of the rotunda would have been a loss of something that took generations to build, an architectural work of art being vandalized. People ranging from Thomas Jefferson to Jefferson Davis had a hand in the design, creation, and building of just the rotunda of the Capitol Building. There are so many noteworthy historical and artistic elements of interest that it would be impossible to list them all here, but the amongst the most important would be the previously mentioned Library of Congress, the rotunda itself, the interior mural, and the statue. Like human lives, these cannot be replaced.

Interestingly Cody irl is very opposed to the wars and perhaps he might have a different view if the attacks were worse and the vibes were more in favor of the war. American troops would be even more aggressive in fighting the Taliban and we may still have a presence in Afghanistan and that the Middle East turns into another Europe or East Asia where American troops are kept their more or less as a fact of geopolitics and there might be U.S or whatever other troops in places like Iran, Syria and Libya and there would probably be a draft of some kind. The passengers and crew on that flight actually saved an additional two specific people’s lives. Two fighter jets had been scrambled to intercept flight 93. They were unarmed and there was no time to arm them. The pilots believed they were on a one way mission and had come to terms with that. The plan was for the lead plane to crash into the cockpit and his wing woman was to crash into the tail section. Because of the bravery of those passengers and crew those two pilots were able to go home to their families.

I think 9/11 has bigger implications on history than we even realize. It's been incredibly impactful on American politics for the past 17 years, but 100 years from now it may be the event that defined the 21st century.

@@trebr3091 I think he's right. This event sparked a mainstream war on terrorism, brought America together and was a huge civilian attack that destroyed an incredibly major landmark. More people died here than Pearl Harbor or the Titanic. Obviously it won't be the event of the 21st century, but it will be studied as we study major disasters from the early to mid 1900s

The plane that hit the Pentagon was meant for the White House. The flight path showed that it was headed there and then veered to the Pentagon, likely because the trees blocked a clear view of the small target. United 93 was meant for the Capitol. So if things had come out as planned, both the White House AND the Capitol would have been destroyed that day. Imagine that.

That’s not true. They were planning on striking symbols of American power. The World Trade Center was a symbol of the American economy, the pentagon was the symbol of the military, and the Capitol or the White House were symbols of the American government. So they were planning on hitting the pentagon since the beginning.

​@@ahmadx1998 Hani Hanjour, the hijack pilot on American 77, was the only hijacker to have flight training as a personal goal instead of for the sole purpose of carrying out the attack. Hanjour, before being recruited by AQ, had wanted to work in the aviation industry and actually held a commercial license and passed a FAA checkride before. If he had focused his life on flying instead of going the radical islam route, then he would've received his ATP and went on to fly for Saudia.

Yea I was going to comment on this but then saw your post. I live in DC and we saw the plane that hit the Pentagon, flying over the National Mall, doing weird things. My thinking is it didn't think it could hit it's target because of trees, power lines, or whatever and decided to hit the Pentagon instead. I don't think the Pentagon was ever a planned target to be honest with you.

actually the pentagon was not a target at all. the white house was but with it having a lower profile against other buildings, it made it hard to spot so they decided on a target they could easily find.

Zerpderp0 I think the Pentagon should be counted as “missed” because they went into the side of the building that was under construction. I don’t get why they didn’t just crash through the roof, cuz it’s easier and would’ve been way more damaging.

Picked some random dude and said “this guy did it.” Man from opposite political party found him in another country and killed him. I remember, maybe about a week after this happened, our local news in southern CA was talking about a small group of men who were supposed to hijack one of our planes here, and crash it, but they couldn't because all the planes were grounded. My friend's older sister worked at a local AMPM, and she recognized the men on the news as being people she served at her work. They literally lived that close to us. That's still something I think about, 20 years later..
