Despite extensive coverage of the recent refugee crisis, part of the story still remains untold. In his talk, Mohammad shares stories of migrants he met when volunteering at refugee camps in Greece. He highlights their infinite kindness, perseverance, motivation to learn and determination to give back once integrated into Western societies. He believes that each and every one of us has the power to help refugees and that we could simply start by becoming their friend.
Mohammad Jamal Deen is an Anesthetist (CRNA) in training in Northern California. He has extensive medical background working in intensive care units as a registered nurse, as well as working as an emergency medic in the streets of Chicago. Following his experience with projects in West Africa as well as across the USA, Mohammad decided to take on his next project to work with Syrian refugees in Europe. Humanitarian work had always been a passion for Mohammad. His latest project, a film “No place like HOPE”, raises awareness to the daily struggles the refugees are experiencing in northern Greece.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Mohammad JD I am crying, this is so inspiring and touching my heart. I spent few days with refugees in Indonesia who were waiting for countries to "accept" them and heard many stories from them, I am touched. Keep being nice and help people, Allah bless you and your beautiful soul :)

Allahu Akbar. The compassion that refugees have is amazing. So many people, are ungrateful for what they have. Arguing with parents not to go to school, to attend classes at university, wasting food and water, ashamed of homes and old cars, take health for granted, and still be miserable to the world. Here are people who have nothing but are eager to learn, smile, passionate about moving ahead, considerate, hard working, beautiful people. And the privelaged still complains about them, feels threathened by them? By these people who lost everything?? By Allah, their reward will be Paradise. They are always in our supplications.

Inspiring story. Nice to extend helping hand to Syrian refugees. Feeling sorry for Syrian refugee people n their little lovely childrens. I wish Basher Al Assad resigns n step down n his countrymen return back to their homeland. May God bless u for ur good deeds, Mr. Mohd. My mom is hardworking ex-Nurse while I am banker by the grace of God. Would love to join to study Medicine but I am deaf but speaks fluently in English n wears Cochlear Implants at late age of 34 yrs. Life is better these days for me. I am praying for these Syrian refugees for their protection. 🙏

I came across this Tedtalk via your Instagram post, and your words pull at my heart. So beautifully delivered. This year I have decided to devote one weekend a month to a local food bank (as opposed to finding time) and you've inspired me to seek further opportunities to help others.
