Thank You Shaf for great video. My problem with HR managers is that they have to be a great layers. They have to convince people that they are essential for company and they are doing great job by hitting targets and goals. Pat in a back and "good job" doesn't cost anything but make people feel better. Don't get me wrong I know why they are doing it, if worker is motivated and dedicated he will work most efficient. But true is harsh and brutal, if worker doesn't produce more for company than he is costing he will be laid off, doesn't matter how dedicated he is. You need to find balance between dedication and own well being , especially corporation will chew you up and throw away when can't get more juice of you. Pure example of privatizing gains and socializing losses. So do your job properly but do not kill your self for company, people. Grave yard is full of irreplaceable people.

I have been working in the field of HR for 8 years now and it is tough. You covered what an HR professional is about but there is so much more depending on the size of company you work for. Payroll is also sometimes part of HR. I know that employees usually see HR as the evil department as we do deal with displinary action, poor performers and termination/redundancy but there is good and bad in every field. An HR professionals job is tough dealing with employee concerns as well as doing what is best for the organisation.

Recalling your recent #askshaflive session with John McGlynn, you both mentioned the importance of hiring people smarter than you. A great HR professional can certainly help with that process too.

I had bad experience with human resource people, when been terrorised by rasist superiors, hr never stood up for me and defended them instead, claiming me being a bad guy...

This was great, thanks, I've been looking for "what is the importance of resource planning?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Seyily Substratal Smasher - (do a google search ) ? It is a smashing one off product for discovering how to get amazing project management and business templates without the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.
