Funny because I find Polaroid film to be super consistent... just look at how many ruined shots you get in a pack! That's what I call consistency! 😂 But jokes aside, I'd really love it if Fuji released a quality Instax camera at a reasonable price.

I have shot about 5 packs over the summer with consistent results on my OneStep+ using fresh film that was cold stored until the day of use. No wasted or damaged frames either. My Fuji SQ6 was bricked after 4 packs of film due to a leaking frame that stuck to the dark slide and jammed. RIP SQ6

Hopefully you can get your hands on a I-2 to give it a good honest review. We bought the I-2 and so far it’s basically lived up to the hype. You could argue it’s their best camera ever and you wouldn’t be wrong. The plastic lens is a non issue. It probably is their sharpest lens ever as claimed. The LIDAR auto focus is a big step up and has been very accurate. The manual control actually allows a sufficient enough degree of adjustability allowing for some great Polaroids in less then ideal conditions. The light meter is still your typical hit or miss Polaroid meter. We used a external most of the time. The flash is still meh but you have the option of using a plug-in external. No app or smartphone is required. You can control everything right from the camera, or use the app on your phone, your choice. Agreed. Polaroid’s biggest problem is still Polaroid film. And yes I know $600 friggen dollars is a hard sell but if your a diehard Polaroid freak then wait and buy a used one in a few months from someone that thought the I-2 was going to be the silver bullet of instant cameras. $400 would have been an ideal price point but with all the features that everyone was clamoring for it made it real expensive. Champagne taste, beer budget syndrome

The only review I feel is the most honest. I love instant film if I could shoot one format for the rest of my life it would be pull apart film it’s all I shot when the film was still available. I died when it got discontinued. I made the switch to instax and Polaroid but the Polaroid film is never consistent. And you my guy bring up the best point of all the hundreds of videos I’ve seen. The film is just as important as the camera.
@GTVAS
@GTVAS Жыл бұрын
Your honesty is always beyond appreciated and I feel the same about the camera. I had asked on a review video as someone who had been considering saving up for a NONS camera if this new Polaroid was something worth considering over it (knowing and mentioning that it was likely not considering the inconsistency of the Polaroid film currently vs. Instax Square) and the most they gave me was an "It just depends on your preference between Polaroid vs Instax." I was truly hoping for a thoughtful, more honest answer from someone who has used both (although I understand they are not obligated to read let alone respond to my question to begin with). I have one camera from both Fuji and Polaroid. Of course I love the colors of Polaroid more, but the cost and lack of certainty from the film leaves my Now Plus sitting on the shelf.

I wish I had personal experience to give you re the NONS cameras. They are super interesting to me (but same sort of problem, they are expensive!!) That said, I do like the idea of an interchangeable system, especially M42. There's a lot of fun, unique and cheap M42 lenses floating around out there. But I am completely with you, I love the Polaroid colors more (when they work lol) than Instax. They gotta do the Dragon Ball Z Fusion dance, then we'll be all set. And thanks so much for the kind words. I try to keep it real here, I appreciate that you appreciate it lol

The fact that you can easily buy a Pentax 645 for $400 really says something about the pricing. For $200 less you can get a professional grade medium format camera that with a 220 back can give you 30 shots a roll.

Please do a video with photographs taken with i-type and 600! Let us know if they have improved. I have gotten some pretty decent shots from my Polaroid but the hit and miss rate is way lower on Fujimax. But unfortunately, I still prefer Polaroid and its warmer colors and the way the photos turn out (when they turn out right). I even like overexposure if details are visible. Would love a video. The photos you took from your Polaroid in 2021 are the reason I invested in them.

So like toats agree the rant about the film. it costs way too much for the consistency and the colors a pretty mid. I'm really not a fan of the lack of physical controls for the price too. tbh I'd rather have exposure on a toggle button and the dials be locked to shutter & aperture. or let me change them in the app or something that said. hey Lou, What are you glasses made of? probably a polycarbonate. perfectly fine to stick to your face for a few years **depending on what its made with** its fine. If the math for the lens is good it will take sharp photos.

Yeah, the glasses thing is a very fair point. Something I should have said is my opinion wouldn't have really changed if the lens was glass. Still wouldn't change the consistency issues. The film is only as legit as the film. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!

I find blaming problems on "user error" to be fairly specious when said problems are occurring on cameras that give users virtually no control whatsoever. That may not necessarily be the case for the I-2, since it claims to have all of these manual bells and whistles, but for other Polaroid cameras... 😬

It's funny. Even in some of the positive reviews I've seen for the new camera, there are visible film problems in their example shots (usually the weird lightning pattern in one of the top corners). I stopped buying polaroid film last fall when a 3 pack I bought had a 13/16 failure rate The third pack's first shot exploded and got opacifying goo all over my rollers. It's a shame; even with how finicky the film was with temperature, I still loved using it. I would still probably be shooting a pack a week if I had any confidence all 8 shots would at least develop. Oh well.

Strange. I get consistently good results. The sharpness of the I-2 is sharper than my 680, and its got a stepped motor focusing. The glasses on your face which you literally see the world through are also polycarb. Its clear from just the spec sheet and results from other people that it's clearly the best Polaroid camera you can buy right now. I personally just do not get bad results from the film (especially if you know how to actually shoot instant film vs non-instant film.) The price compared to previous premium polaroid cameras isn't even bad. And it's clearly not marketed to any casual shooter. It's for the instant enthusiast. In all honestly there isnt a single criticism in this particular video that I haven't seen debunked or addressed a hundred times already in the past couple days since release.

I think the camera is cool as fuck and when in a few years when it's on ebay for under 100 I will get one just to try it out. But if Polaroid don't make their film better by then, then I may consider not bothering. Their latest batch of film seems to be worse than the freaking stuff they were putting out under 'polaroid original'. I lent my friend a Polaroid Go for Norway because I got one dirt cheap and I wanted them to try it out for me. When they said they only used one stack of film and stopped because all the photos were over or under exposed garbage; yeah I took notice. So I tried it myself and as someone who owns a modified SX-70 and used Polaroid in my youth until it was killed off and then used it when it was revitalized... Yeah, their formulation at the moment is freaking terrible. Polaroid Go especially, everything comes out purple and overblown as hell even with the lowest shutter speed in normal light (flash off). The ISO for polaroid go is 640 and maybe that's why. They need to bring it down to a 400 or something. But yeah, it makes me afraid to use their film because whilst instax isn't as 'interesting' looking and a little too flat (unless you have the cash for a MiNT camera which I dont). At least I trust it to perform.

I am seeing a lot of back and forth on this. I do think I agree with you on it's good that new cameras are being made to draw more fresh eggs into film photography... But I am on the same boat of, 600 dollars? Wtf? Why plastic coated lenses and not just glass if they're gonna say it's so crisp? And why 600 dollars for a plastic lens? I have some friends that are super excited about this new camera, and, that's fine and I hope they have fun with it. I still have some polaroids, I shoot them occasionally, but even in my short time in this hobby, it is really hard to love Polaroid more than some other options because of those inconsistencies you mentioned. Polaroid shots do be dreamy sometimes but... Damn...

I thought it was just me not using the camera properly but my now+ literally only gives me 2 out 8 good photos. I think the problem is the I type film and the camera itself. I can never get the lighting right. I have a Polaroid one step from the 90s that I use 600 film with and I usually get 6/8 good photos with that one. Polaroid needs to do better 😢 smh. I like the size of the old Polaroids better too. I hate how expensive film is and 600 film is even more $$$ 😭 it’s such an expensive hobby but I love taking a good Polaroid and having a tangible memory It’s a shame instax is cheaper and much more consistent. The photos are just too small for my taste

Agree with a lot of this, the wave of positive reviews arriving at the same time felt disingenuous, and the film still sucks. I'm perfectly happy with my SQ6 until someone makes a better product, though, but this ain't it. I also agree with someone else here in the comments that actual dials for aperture and shutter speed rather than a tiny screen would help justify the insane price (along with glass, of course).
@renemies78

Thank goodness you're commenting about the film. I purchased two rolls last month. One color and one in black and white. Out of 16 pictures, I got two good pictures. And all of them had issues at the bottom of the frame. It looks like a little flame where the chemicals didn't spread properly. I love this format and I would get a new polaroid camera but if the film sucks, why would I waste my money on a new camera? My parents have polaroid pictures from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and they all look clearer and better than any of the pictures I take. Good video.

I enjoy your channel but in this case I really disagree with your opinion. I do not own an I-2 and I probably never will, but I do not really understand why people are hung up on the plastic vs glass lens thing, I don't see how the material used is relevant when pretty much every comment and review I've seen and read says that the lens is as good or better than the SX-70. Plastic doesn't mean it is bad, there are high grade acrylics and other such materials and the sharpness of the lens seems on point. And: Although I agree that the film should be much better, I've had really crappy results especially when buying from retail stores, I also think that this take doesn't really make sense. Polaroid has a lab division that is constantly working on improving the film with chemists running it, and it's not like the developing of a camera takes away manpower from that lab. Those are 100% certain different people/divisions doing different work. I wish the film was better too, it has a long way to go, but them making a new camera doesn't mean they aren't also working on the film too. It's a false equivalence to say that making one makes the other impossible or low priority.

My interest in this product is purely for kind of content KZbinrs make. Reason is Polaroid film is just not available here in India. Shopping globally with duty etc. would make it 3x the already high price. Mind you instax is easily available. Also given how it screws up in heat it won’t survive the heat here In fact the whole film photography is becoming a first world exclusive club . Lomo films don’t come here now and Kodak comes at twice the price. Amount of film New York Leica bro burns in a month or LA KZbinr on a single route 66 video is more than entire film supply of whole of South Asia that we get once in 3-4 months and I am not even joking.
@SweetLouPhotography
@SweetLouPhotography Жыл бұрын
That is wild. Not to mention even if the heat in your region wasn't a factor, you can't guarantee how the film is being shipping in the first place. That is another issue of the film's consistency though, they need to focus on making it more stable. Heat shouldn't affect as extremely as it does. They have a recent saying the heat unlocks a whole new world of colors (aka the film isn't working as intended but it's a feature not a bug lol) And they also need to focus on supplying people around the world who are interested. Crazy stuff. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!
