Do you have any links to independent studies and research about red light therapy? I'm always sceptical when it comes to information provided by the people who also sell a product.
@AskDoctorJo6 ай бұрын
Sites like the NIH and Pubmed are great places to look for research studies. Here is one: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9980499/

Would you recommend red light therapy for severe neck osteoarthritis? If so, which?
@AskDoctorJo6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't know that answer since I can't evaluate you. Everyone is different. In general, it can be beneficial for osteoarthritis, but it's best to check with your doctor or physical therapist who can evaluate you and help you figure out if it's a good treatment option for you.

Will red light therapy be beneficial for nerve pain? If so which would be best?
@AskDoctorJo6 ай бұрын
Infrared can be helpful for nerve pain like peripheral neuropathy, but it really just depends on what caused it and how severe it is.
@AskDoctorJo6 ай бұрын
@@lynnesch919 Infrared or a combo of both is usually better for neuropathy type issues. Red light therapy is generally very safe with little side effects, but it's always best to check with your doctor before starting any treatment as there are always exceptions because every is different.

I have a new red light therapy/infrared wand that I use on muscle aches. I'm going to now target it on my arthritic thumb! It can be so painful sometimes that it becomes difficult to move. 🙁

There is some warmth, but it doesn't get hot like a traditional heating pad.

Is this safe to use with joint replacements to reduce discomfort?

It depends on how recent the joint replacement, so it's best to ask your surgeon.

Thank for all the information. Im very curious on red light therapy, but I'm a bit lost on how this actually works? Is it the heating component of infrared light that reduces inflammation while keeping circulation? It seems very alien that light itself benefits health. I understand UV light can be extremely damaging so is this sort of like the opposite?

Hello, Doc, I have straightening lumbar ludocis, and the physician told me that from the xray it's seems to be a born with like. I have been attending to a gym months ago, and I now have some discomfort on my back. What exercises can I start doing?
@AskDoctorJo6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't know that answer since I can't evaluate you. Everyone is different. If there is any way you can see a physical therapist in person, they should be able to help you figure out a specific program for you and help answer your questions.
@allanmugo66766 ай бұрын
@AskDoctorJo the results of the x-ray were straightening of the lumbar spine lordotic curvature. No scoliosis or Kyphosis. There is no evidence of spondylolistesis.

Dr Jo, is this red light therapy the same as K Laser Therapy? It seems like K Laser might be just for the skin and not deep tissue or joint inflammation. I had K laser therapy for Tarsel Tunnel pain but it did not help. This red light therapy you demonstrated seems better. Can you let me know? Thank you.

As far as I know, it's a different wavelength, so it's not exactly the same.

Thanks, Doctor Jo, for this great video! Do you have any recommendations for red light and near infrared light devices for neck pain? And, do you have recommendations for less expensive options? Thank you.
@AskDoctorJo2 ай бұрын
You're welcome! I have reviewed a far infrared heating pad, but I haven't reviewed/tried any other near infrared devices but this one, so I don't know of any others to recommend.
