My name is Fion (no double n) and pronounced like Finn, although most of my friends pronounce it the obvious way to avoid confusion with another friend called Finn. I'm pretty sure my version is of Scottish Gaelic origin but I'm not 100% sure and I think my parents don't really know either. I've never met anyone else with the name Fion or Fionn it's interesting to hear that Fionn is popular in Ireland.

There are some names that seemingly don't have an equivalent in an opposite gender. For example - Elizabeth, Margaret, Jennifer, Jill, Carmen, Sofia, Alice, Nancy, Yvette, ect. don't seem to have a male equaivalent I'm aware of; David, James, Roger, Trevor, Colin, Jared, Xavier, Vincent, ect. don't seem to have female equivalents I'm aware of. However, I know that in some cases the opposite names are just very rare, or have transformed in time in a way that doesn't seem obvious at all (like Spanish Simon and Ximena).

Jill is a Short form of Gillian a, Medieval English feminine form of Julian. The masculine form of Sofia is Sophus. The closest male form of Elizabeth there is is Elijah.Alice is related to Adelaide ,it is a shortened form of Adelaide infact, the closest male form would be Adel,i think. Nancy,is a diminutive of Ann.The male form of Ann would be Ananias .The Feminine form of James,i think would be Jacqueline or Jamesina .

Now that you said it, Finn being the male version of Fiona actually makes sense. Whenever I hear or see the name Finn, I immediately think of FN-2187 "Finn" from Star Wars #VII-IX. @@gunjfur8633 What I see on Wiktionary is Fiona deriving from the word fionn, not the name. Here's the chain I'm tracing: OI finn > OI Finn/Irish fionn > Fionn/Fiona. Please note that Fionn and Fiona are more-or-less parallel derivations, rather than Fiona deriving from Fionn as a feminine form. I'll note that adjectival fionn's plural is fionna, unless very specific circumstances are met.
