What Makes A Good Character Customizer? (Ft. TheAstroPub, BusterTheDestroyer, & Captain SeriousFun)

Star Citizen’s new character customizer offers players a great base for building their unique avatar. But there is a lot more that goes into customizing your persona than just that initial character-building session. Today I’ve invited a few creators to join me in discussing the new creator, what makes a good one, and how customization goes beyond this tool.

I stick to default character. Gimme customization for armor Armored Core 6 is one of the few games i put time into customization (not counting player cards back when CoD allowed it)

46:42 I think there should be a _limited_ form of transmog. Basically where we have our own version of armours and we can apply that version somewhere (i.e. a crafting station, specific shop, etc.). For reputation based consequences, I'd say the distinct armour set should be recognisable regardless of wear but any decal/sticker/badge/patch/etc., that is to be added to armours, should need to be worn/displayed for reputation with the exception of mission givers who may know us or have us in a system or something. These identifying decals should be recognisable above a certain armour wear level. To my point, if we have reputation with a gang in Pyro and land at their station. The grunts of the gang would be neutral to us and wouldn't trust us unless wearing the identifiable gear/designs, but we could still head to a mission giver as they would _need_ to know to give missions so would have some system to keep track of it. Faction ships should need a separate decal on our ship, or need to be hailed, to not act aggressively to us when in the 'verse.

As a barber the hair is a big component that just matters to me but the beards are game changing. I just hoping we get to blend the beard styles. I remember seeing the first beard and they are good but there are small things that will set characters apart. Like if you are coming from MT I’d imagine you have a trimmed and styled beard where as beards in Hurston/Pyro are more natural or unkept almost mountain man style. This could also tie into the hygiene system.

Conan Exiles has a thing where using sorcery/magic will cause physical changes to your character, making it more withered, wrinkled and evil looking.

I really want some body shaping. It just looks wrong at the moment with everyone having the same body.

I think a really well defined and in depth character customizer is a really good way for devs to show off how much they care about their game. It's one of the first things a new player will see, and having that well polished experience right off the bat sets the tone for the start of your gameplay

If Morrowind is the most extensive one Pub has used…does no one play MMOs, all of them list single player games, what about Black Dessert Online, Star Trek Online, EverQuest…I don’t generally make a character that looks like me, I play me in RL don’t really want to play me in a game. I generally play female characters because I play most MMO in third person so I personally prefer looking at a female not a man, also in the past the character creators were made by men only so the women always looked better, that being said with star citizen I can make a guy that looks great too since they seem to give as much detail to male characters as they do female. As far as the armor, my friends and I usually swap out to civies but we also use ground vehicles to assault bunkers because we can not because we have to

genetic modifications would also be cool, like splicing your characters DNA with a xian or, even better, a Vanduul, to get different minor buffs like an increase to melee damage or more hearty constitution by a small percentage, and your skin or eye colors could become unique. Maybe you get sharp teeth or your nails become for talon like from Tivarin DNA, or maybe Cardasian style neck ridges. Just a thought.
