What my vegetarian toddler ate in a day | what my toddler eats

Average toddler needs 13-19 grams of protein a day folks. 2 tbsp peanut butter has around 8 grams, a cheese stick has around 7 grams of protein, 2 slices of whole wheat bread has around 6 grams of protein, a packet of oatmeal has around 4 grams of protein (if it was made with milk and not water we can add another 8 grams of protein per cup of milk), a cup of broccoli for Christ sakes has 2.6 grams of protein in it. Not including all the other food this mom fed her toddler that’s a total of 35.6 grams of protein in a day. I swear to god this is why American kids are fat, y’all think a toddler needs to eat the same amount of protein as a grown adult athlete.

That's a minimum, and only about half of protein from plants is absorbable, depending on how much that plant is broken down. For example, the broccoli has almost no absorbable protein due to insoluble fiber essentially locking away those nutrients. Peanut butter, if creamy, is probably a little bit more, but it comes with a lot of Omega 6. American kids are fat because we feed them prepackaged garbage and poor quality free meals at public schools. My kids eat almost exclusively meat and are extremely healthy with a high lean body mass. They almost never get sick. They are taller and stronger than most children their age. And as long as no one feeds them garbage (as grandparents are want to do), their behavior and ability to socialize happily is normal despite them not being neurotypical.

@@mamatlacuachaI’ll match your anecdotal evidence with my own. I’m 5’8 (tall for a woman) 146lbs, very active, and I’ve been vegetarian since I was 8. Mom is giving double the amount of protein a toddler needs anyways, so the toddler is having its needs met. Glad your all meat diet works for your kids, hope they don’t deal with high cholesterol in their early 20s 😂.

@@Shy-xm4kn , there's zero evidence dietary cholesterol has any effect other than positive on the heart or any other organ. We are apex predators. Every aspect of our biology points to this. I'm feeding my children a species appropriate diet. You can absolutely get enough protein as a vegetarian if you eat enough eggs and cheese, and some people can suffer these suboptimal diets for longer than others, but at the end of the day, it is still suboptimal. And her child is getting the bare minimum of protein and not enough absorbable protein. Again, extensive research has been done on this by multiple doctors that you can look into yourself. Highly recommend you do so.

You are hurting your child. I will not say ever that someone is abusing their child because they think they're feeding them the way they ought, but you are incorrect and your actions are hurting your child. Please reconsider your stance on this and do some research into the necessity of protein, specifically bioavailable protein, for children. When your child is an adult and can make their own decisions about what they want to do or don't want to do for animals, that can be their decision. In the meantime, you need to put aside your beliefs about what is best for the animals or the planet or whatever, and put your child's needs first. I believe this is what you are trying to do, but you have been misinformed. Again, please do your research and start feeding your child meat. You are harming them if you do not. Dr Judy Cho is a great place to start.

P. S. Protein is not the only thing your child needs from meat. Numerous b vitamins, iron, and other vitamins and minerals that are essential for her health and development are found most abundantly, and in some cases exclusively, in meat.

Im sure her child is doing fine, plus some religiously vegetarian people have their kids be vegetarian as a baby, and their rlly healthy. Im sure there are other alternatives she provides to help her child thrive.

​@@AjiaJ , the most highly absorbable forms are found in meat. I did say numerous b vitamins, but to be specific, B12 is not found in anything but animal products and is highest in meat. Non-heme iron is absorbed at less than half the rate of heme iron. I stand by what I said. I don't think you're an intentionally bad mother, I just think you've been misinformed and need to re-educate yourself. I suffer many health issues because we were too poor to afford much meat. My diet was very similar to your child's growing up. High starch, hi veg (we had a garden because we wouldn't have been able to survive without one), relatively low protein. I take prescription medications for at least three different chronic health issues in three different organ systems. My kids are perfectly healthy, despite sharing my genetics, because I can afford to feed them what I know they need.​

This is just one day of her eating, she gets foods with protein but with us just moving into this spot 2 days ago & me being 36 weeks pregnant , i haven’t made the usual things i make. Her diet if full of nutrients lol if her dr isn’t trippin why should you?
