Just took one hour out to listen to the gearbox podcast and I found the part about the other guys saying they shouldn't be giving away industry secrets. That's the problem in this world, people don't like to send the lift back down. Good job we got people like you in this world much love brother.

Howdy Paul I work at a small shop in the San Francisco Bay Area. Just the boss,myself and coworker. My boss unfortunately is suffering the beginning of dementia. He’s very forgetful and leans on us to do most of the office work. This causes time spent working on cars to be hindered. He refuses to speak on the matter and when i need him to make shop decisions he just walks away. He forgets to update the schedule board all the time. The only time he kinda remembers the repairs is when it involves oil changes. I guess it’s the only thing he can relate to. His diagnosis and repAir skills have been stuck in the 80’s. I love the guy and have worked with him for the past 15 years. I am at a loss of what to do. I know for a fact his wife will not keep the shop open if he has to retire. I’m his lead tech. Do I make a break now or stick with it. I’m afraid if I left it could harm him mentally. He puts a lot of pressure on me to do his job but complains when the money gets tight. Any thoughts?

It's time to have a sit down with him and be as blunt as possible. That way you won't surprise him when your toolbox rolls out the door. Put it all out there. Sometimes the truth is hard to hear. Maybe even get his wife in on the conversation.

I agree with Danner he needs a reality check. He will live in denial as long as people let him. The term for this is "enabling". If you have credit or money saved get a loan and offer to buy the business from him. Either that or seems it will likely close as both the owner and lead tech won't be 'there' anymore...

I enjoyed the podcast, thanks for the link. And keep making your videos with all the struggles you deal with in a diagnostic. It’s a great help to see all the steps you take to fix a problem. I Don’t want to be a parts changer!

Looks like the time has come for me to get on Spotify. Super curious about what was said. The only thing I'm successful at my shop with is fixing vehicles and shop ownership is so much more than that. Must learn the ways!

Very good tips for sure, this podcast made me think about salary/pay for certified technicians that are eager to learn as well as constantly evolving and getting better and better at diagnosing cars and not shotgunning parts at them. What’s a good tech worth? How do we as technicians put a price on our abilities? Let’s say for example, a tech looking for a job has a very good understanding of chapters 1-5 in your book as well as chapters 9-10.. To me I feel like that tech would be a very good asset to any shop owner? So that being said, how could a tech put a price on themselves?

Hey great stuff! I do not know if you answer these questions. I have a 2003 300m 3.5HO base, i would like to buy a inexpensive computer to do quick learn for the transmission, if not too expensive a little programing. What computer would you recommend? Cheap seats daily driver. Thanks scanner 👍

You might need a j-box and a subscription to Ford to be able to program it. Edit: they have 3 day subscriptions I believe.
@ScannerDanner6 ай бұрын
That is a very specific question and I have no idea what scan tool would do that test on your car, if it can even be done

@ScannerDanner I have a question for you. If you have a bad BCM and they no longer make them for your vehicle....What happens? Can one be modified? It does it mean your vehicle is dead and done for?? Thank you

Hello, i got one home work for you. If iat is Ethylene glycol, Oat is propylene glycol, then what is HOAT? Is it Ethylene glycol or propylene glycol? My new pink coolant has ethylene glycol written on the container. Is it iat, oat or hoat?
@ScannerDanner6 ай бұрын
That sounds like your homework, not mine

@@ScannerDanner I have done enough research online but couldn't find the exact content of hoat whether it is ethylene or propylene glycol.
