Well done. Very Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Proof that Yamaha is consistent in their design criteria.

Flat plane has a significant weight advantage, over that generation of cross planes. While the peak horse power is comparable. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike the cross plane. I have experience, (back roads, rural environment) with the 98 R1, and more recently 05.

O nice you ended up keeping the 06 good shit man hold on to it

I wish I still had it. Unfortunately I had to sell the 06. I do miss it some days. It was a solid bike.

Can't believe you sold you flat plane. Even after you experiments. Would you get another if you could. I have an 07.
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
If it was in the budget I would have kept both. I absolutely loved my old flat plane bike. It never let me down!

How do you find the difference of traction control between the 2 bikes? I just bought an 06 R1, but also own a MT-10
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
My 2006 does not have traction control or any rider assist features. 2012 was the first year of traction control on the R1. I do like it! Works better than I originally thought it would.

Lots of adjustability. 6 different levels I believe
@Vader-232 жыл бұрын
@@JT2JZ you prefer the 2012 to your 2006 then?
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
I like the 2006 better for its reliability. I like my 2012 better for the Crossplane engine and fun / unique factor. Honestly I could care less about the traction control. I can easily live without it.

does the Crossplane have good torque down low, or does the flatplane? That’s my question lol I have a 03 R1 (3rd Gen) and the pull from down low to high rpm’s is so smooth but fast I love it but I want something more commuter friendly so I’m opting for a mv agusta brutale 1090 RR
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
Honestly the Crossplane doesn’t make as good of torque down low as everyone brags them up to be. I would almost compare it to turbo lag. It’s a bit more boggy down low but when the power does hit it hits harder up top. The flatplane bikes are so smooth at any rpm I would say they make a better daily driver and get WAY better fuel mileage as well. They just don’t have the “fun” factor. I enjoy riding my Crossplane more even though it’s jerky / boggy casually cruising in start and stop traffic
@maximilliancunningham60912 жыл бұрын
I've heard the cross planes are loaded up with higher end power. My 98 R1 had a longer stroke, and pulled harder, off the line, but my 05 is a real beast above 6k. It's the last generation 5 valve.
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
The Crossplane starts to pull harder than the flat plane in the mid RPM ( roughly 6000-7000rpm and up ) and carries on right to red line. They do feel really good in that mid rpm range.

Slip on takes 3% of top end power
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the slip on I would think. I know the toce exhaust was famous for loosing power because it’s basically just a straight pipe. Akrapovic is a pretty good quality exhaust though.

I haven’t had clutch fade on my cross plane but on my Gsxr 600 and on my 800 Intruder I had clutch fade after changing the engine oil and using an off brand trying to save money. As soon as I put better oil in the bikes the slip went away. So what I’m suggesting is that maybe your oil was the problem. Thanks for the track comparison.
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
The bike is due for an oil change but the oil quality is good. I’m running amsoil 10W40. What grade of oil were you using when you experienced clutch slip?
@Alphastarcar2 жыл бұрын
@@JT2JZ I was using 10-40 too.

What makes it harder to ride
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
It’s a heavyweight bike. The power delivery is not very linear either. Very boggy / shudders down low and when the power comes on it comes on more aggressive
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
The drive by wire throttle is also very sensitive / touchy in power mode A
@kalieburrows14272 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info.. didn’t know they had drive by wire.. I’ve been looking for one.. don’t know if I like the idea of it.. when it malfunctions probably can’t fix it at home huh? Wonder if there’s any way to program out the issues you speak of??
@JT2JZ2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if I would really call it an issue, it’s just different and takes time to get used to. Typically the newer the bike the harder they are to work on and fix at home though. I agree with you on that 100%.
