The French Mine (formerly the Oregon) lies on the steep eastern slope of the Similkameen River valley at elevation 4,000 feet, between Cahill and Winters Creeks. The property was discovered in 1901 and bought 4 years later by Messrs, French and Deardorf. It was developed in a modest way by the owners and by several companies until 1947, without success. The spectacular showings of bornite and chalcopyrite in the outcrop drew attention to its possibilities for copper rather than gold. Diamond drilling by the owners in 1947 yielded several high-grade gold intersections and created new interest. In 1949 the property was purchased by Kelowna Mines Hedley Limited. Exploration drilling and geological mapping outlined sufficient ore to commence production in 1950. Except for a few months each winter the operation has been continuous and to the end of 1954 had produced almost 30,000 tons of high grade ore. The ore is crushed at the mine and hauled 8 miles by truck to the Company mill at Hedley, where it is treated together with the ore from Nickel Plate.

Ooh adventure, fun! That headlamp throws a great light for filming, terrific sponsor! I would love one for my adventures! Oh no, flicker! You must have turned the lamp from high to low or medium and then the flicker registers. I do it myself.

Hello! Yes, the flicker is not a nice addition to our lighting situation lol. We were told that it happens more often too when the battery is low, but it’s definitely something we need to be cautious about while filming. No one wants to see that lol Thanks for stopping by our channel, watching and leaving a comment, we appreciate it!!

@@AdventuresRUs I think you may have just had it on medium or low. The strobe effect occurs at lower settings on led lights, the camera picks up what our eyes do not. Its just a shame lights have to cycle through all the intensities every time instead of just one click, hi beam.

Hello Michael! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, we appreciate it!! We don’t believe in ghosts or anything like that, but in one mine that we explored we caught a voice on video that we couldn’t explain. I, Chyanne, was standing at the bottom of a raise we had just climbed up and was filming Adam coming down. When we were back at home, we were reviewing our footage and heard a soft voice that was actually swearing.. Couldn’t explain it and still don’t know quite what to make of it. But, we listen very carefully now with headphones when editing!!

Good stuff Chyanne and Adam. Have you watched any videos from the guys in Europe that run remotely operated vehicles that are submersible? They run them down a flooded winze like you were at and get some great video off them. The ROV is similar to a drone in that you can see where the vehicle is, and what it's seeing, on a remote screen and controller. I'm sure you've had a ton of comments about the flickering. In case no one has said what is causing it I'll add my two cents. It's caused by the way all LED lights are controlled and more specifically dimmed. It’s called pulse width modulation and means that to dim LED lights they are turned on and off rapidly. Your eye just sees it as dimmer light but your camera is picking up the on and off cycles. If you don't dim your lights it shouldn't happen. Some camera's viewfinders don't refresh fast enough for you to see it while videoing but you'll see it later in editing. Stay safe out there!

Hey Guys! We do watch them, Lost Mines, I believe their channel is called. We definitely have some wet mines that’d be good for a ROV, but we’d probably lose it lol They’ve done well to not lose theirs, it’s probably pretty expensive! We have had a few comments about it and we still haven’t figured it out. We’re not actually changing the light setting when it happens, but it seems to happen when he turns his head at certain angles. Rarely does it happen when he’s just walking along, but when he looks up or down, or turns to the side to look at something it happens. Some ppl have mentioned it happens when you’re battery is low etc Either way, it’s annoying and we should probably just toss those ones lol Hope you guys are doing well, you’ve certainly been to some interesting places lately, we’re behind on commenting, but have been watching!!

Hi Adam & Chyanne, a cool explore, do you know if this was a productive mine and what it mined ?? That ladder looked so sketchy, I was pleading with you not to go across lol. I hope you are all well ?? Myself, my husband and our 17 yr old Daughter have all got the flu at this moment which is pretty nasty. Thank you for sharing, much love to you both. xx ❤

Hello Sue:) So sorry to hear you’re all not feeling well! The flu is never fun and it’s hard when everyone is sick too. Hope you guys have a speedy recovery!! This mine was fairly successful, nothing compared to its neighbour The Mascot though! They mined gold, silver and copper there and processed it in Hedley. They were still working it in the eighties and by then the mill was no longer operating and they shipped their ore up to Keremeos, which fortunately wasn’t too far. Thank you for your continued support Sue, we really appreciate it!! Hope you’re having a good summer, aside from you all having the flu!! ❤️

Couple things, don't get mad. The headlamp you used going up the ladder, flickered horrible, was that the new one you sponsored, because that's not good, best throw that in the trash. You should use a strong flood flashlight or dual headlamp, flood/spot and use flood on high, spot low. Your spot flashlight is great only looking down the tunnel. As soon as you turn it into the side or up close, it flashes me. Lighting is difficult and believe me, i went thru this and still make some mistakes. I actually got a 2300 lumen for next trip, will use for deep shafts and adits only. I use a Baton S2 flood at all times and my fenix torch. Seems to be working out well. i am stingy on lighting and have to remember to keep the flood on high.

No, that was Adam’s headlamp flickering. We mentioned that we have a problem with the flickering right before he went up the man way. We’re not sure why that one does that, but I, Chyanne was wearing the new one. Kind of confusing because he immediately commented about it lol Thanks for your input and no worries, we’ve had several complaints regarding lighting since we started all of this and have slowly upgraded what we use. We’d love to get some Fenix torches, but they’re expensive lol We’ll definitely look into a Baton S2 too, never heard of that brand.

That is called "strobe effect". It is a common problem when using battery operated LED lights. Notice that it didn't start happening till after he had been using the light for several hours. Cameras typically take 50 or 60 frames per second, depending on where you live. I think Canada uses 60 Hz electricity, and so their cameras would default to 60 frames per second. Or an exact multiple of 60, such as 30 or 120 FPS. So when the battery is fully charged the LED is running at 60 Hz, and the longer you use it and the battery voltage starts dropping the Hz also drops. So the LED and the camera are then "out of phase" with each other and it causes that strobe effect. You will often see that strobe effect when people take video on Cruise Ships because the onboard electricity isn't exactly 60 Hz and may even be 50 Hz depending on what part of the world they come from. Another related subject of interest (to me anyway) is Schumann Resonance, which is the resonant frequency of planet Earth. The average harmonic frequency around the planet is 7.83 Hz. Though some places it is slightly higher, and those places on Earth all tend to use 50 Hz electricity rather than 50 Hz. As a side note, the resonant frequency of the Human Brain is also 7.83 Hz.

@@mineadventures7938: It's over my head too, which is why I have keep studying it for a few years now. It's a lot of math, and I suck at math. But just like when an LED light and Video recorder get out of phase and cause the strobe effect, sometimes your brain and the Earth get out of phase and cause some undesired effects. And cell phone towers can cause different phasing effects on your brain, which causes your brain to get out of phase with the planet. At first it all sounds crazy, but the more you learn about phasing and things getting out of phase the more it starts to make sense that everything has a harmonic frequency, and can get out of phase or in phase with other things. Like music for example, if it's in phase with your heart it will make you happy. The various states of being out of phase with your heart beat makes you feel other ways; angry, anxious, depressed, etc. etc. The more you study these phenomena and begin to understand them the more you will see more examples of it and cycles of it. I could go on, but I guess in a comment thread on an abandoned mine video isn't really the place for it (though being off topic has never stopped me before :>

You can't really call Budweiser "beer". In fact in Germany it would be against the law to call that chemical swill beer. Budweiser uses so little malt sugar that it won't "head" when poured. So they add a chemical they call "heading agent" to give it a false head. Many people are allergic to this chemical, including me. Just a few mouth fulls and it gives me a horrible headache. At least if you fall in a flooded winze you just get wet, which is much better than if you fall into a winze that isn't flooded.

The German Beer Purity Law was established in 1516 and is called Reinheitsgebot. It was the first food purity law in the world. It says that beer must have and only have water, yeast, hops, and malt sugar. Nothing more, nothing less. Though it was expended in recent years to include wheat. I was never much of a beer drinker and the only beer I ever really liked I made myself. I let my friends drink it. My friends and other brewers always wanted to know my "secret" why my beer tasted different than all of theirs. I would never tell them. But since I haven't brewed beer in the past 20 or more years I don't mind divulging my secret; I used champagne yeast :>
