What’s the Best Mac for Video Editing?

I want to Edit videos in 4K or 5.3K in Davinci Resolve, i tought i will get more power for the money when i buy a desktop, but it seems like the Mac Books are better for a similar price. Will the example at 5:12 be good for that? Is the pro chip enough?

I would say any max chip you would be ok. You could get by with a pro but if you have a heavy workload editing 3 times a week heavy projects you need max chip no hiccups. I edit alot of 4k footage drone transitions it doesn't hiccup at all. If your work load is medium to light meaning maybe just you then pro should be more than enough. I had to go max I edit my own personal stuff but clients as well.

Work with proxies and use ANY Mac made in the last 10 years. I have worked on documentaries and they all use Proxies.

It should be excellent. I have the lesser Mac mini with M2 Pro, and it’s still incredibly fast. I regularly have 20 or more apps open simultaneously - including Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro and Xcode - and it doesn’t slow down for a second.

Which Mac is going to be best for a dedicated streaming machine? I’m trying to stream my gaming pc and consoles with a Mac and elgato 4K X while having several browser tabs open, music daw, and play music while streaming 1080p60 to twitch or KZbin. . My M4 Pro Mac mini is just not cutting it. The preview window is stuttering and laggy and stream quality to twitch is a blocky, pixelated, stuttering mess. I found an M2 Max MacBook Pro with the higher gpu cores and 32gb of Ram. Is that going to be what I need? Am I having a memory issue or a gpu issue? I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I can use the game pc to stream with nvenc but that totally defeats the purpose of my studio. My Mac controls everything from audio to lighting so I’d like it to be my steam machine as well 😢

seeeeee, i was ramping to get the mac studio m2 ultra - buddy of mine does high end work on one and raves about it, but I am almost tempted to go MacBook and run to ultra wide monitor. I am torn! I know Mac Studio will get m4 update prob by June so eh? I do mostly 4k "digital content" and HD shows that go to certain networks for air but I do work with a ton of mixed codecs/media.

If you ever need to take your computer with you, buy a MacBook if you can afford the extra cost. If you're going for a desktop, personally, I would buy the highest-end M4 Pro Mac mini instead of the Studio. Put your money towards massive internal storage instead of the Ultra chip. Very, very few people need Ultra-level performance.

Thanks so much for this! It was super helpful. I had an iMac Pro that just completely died on me. I also have a MacBook Pro M1 Max. I've decided to purchase a good monitor (about to watch your video on that!) to connect to my MacBook while I figure out how to proceed. I figured I should get a Mac Studio but I don't love that they're still M2 chips in there. If Apple doesn't update the Mac Studio in the next few months (it seems doubtful) then would I be better off trading in my M1 MacBook Pro 16" for an M3 MacBook Pro 16" like you detailed here? Won't using the laptop with some sort of doc basically give me the same type of thing as the Mac Studio? Also, want to be able to edit 4k video with my system. Thanks so much!

Any Mac can handle 4K video. MacBook Air if you want a laptop, Mac mini if you want a modular desktop, iMac if you want an all-in-one. Wait for an M4 model of whatever you want.

Macbook pro M3 for 4k videos?

Hey all, would anybody have any input as to maybe some of those older Mac pros for 4K video editing? I’m a single father with full custody of six kids busting my ass to make ends meet but I need 4K editing capabilities, and my “budget” is as cheap as possible. Under $300. But I see these older silicone shaped Mac pros, Xeon 6-core 3.5ghz etc. ? Any input on these please, greatly appreciated!

under 300 you will have a miserable time editing 4k footage. it will be absolutely frustrating and will take every spark of enjoyment out of editing that you might have. at this point you will have to edit every single frame one by one because the playback will simply not function. you need at least a m1 machine with 8gb and even that is not recommended because it will lag if you put some effects on the timeline. it will be sufficent for simple cuts tho.

@@Notherjayy video editing is mainly graphics card and ram. you need at least 16gb ram (32-64gb recommended) and above gtx 1080.
