Ford didn't take the government bailout, and when they had bad tires on their machines, they replaced them, free. I don't know if any of you out there remember this, but ford broke up a long relationship with Firestone over it. Then offered to replace any and all the questionable tires for free. I had two vehicles in my driveway, 2001 Explorer, and 1999 F150. Both received new tires for free. I'm sure I'm not the only one who received this offer, and know it had to cost Ford a pretty penny to replace all that faulty rubber. It wasn't even Fords fault, yet they stood up for what was right. For this reason, and a few others, I am a faithful Ford guy. I have owned every manufacturer out there, some I like, some not so much, but after all is said and done, Ford is my favorite company for trucks. Good luck.

I drove both I personally like the drive of the F150 better ,but being a mechanic and working on these trucks all the time the truck I want for the long haul after 10 years is a Silverado so if you're gonna keep it a while go for the Silverado, it's LS engine will run forever,all that technology in the F150 it's nice when it's new but 7-8 years down the road when the turbo chargers and exhaust manifolds are falling off of it from the salt in the Northeast , and the engine is tired ,you're gonna wish you had the Silverado's built like an anvil simple 2 valve cam in block V-8.even fords 5 L V8 ,it makes a lot of horsepower at 5600 rpm, but is always shifting because it doesn't have a lot of torque in the low-mid range, where the engine spends 90% of the time,and all of their engines still have cam phaser issues. Again the GM engine will outlast any of these Fords 3 to 1.this is coming from a guy who likes the F150 better...

The reason why the Silverado has a lower maximum price is because it has less trim levels. If you were to list them with equivalent trim levels, it would look like this: XL/WT XLT/LT Lariat/ LTZ King Ranch/High Country Platinum Limited

The thing I appreciate the most about Ford, 1 They didn't take a government bail out and 2) they aren't afraid to do recalls. They take care of the customer. In the 80's when the EPA cracked down on pain, everyone had paint blowing off their vehicles. Ford repainted vehicles free to customers (10 years later) Chevy did nothing. Right now I'm fighting with GM along with 10's of thousands of others about 07-2011 Dash boards falling apart. GM says they're not aware of an issue and anyone that knows how to navigate Google knows that's a lie. I spent more on this LTZ Z71 Suburban than I did on my first house, take amazing care of my vehicles. It still looks brand new except for the crap dash the dealer wants 1500 to replace. It's a damn all day project doing it yourself and will still cost you a ton doing it. Not that I'm BITTER about it.
@georgebrandt62477 жыл бұрын
What if you add the GMC brand trucks in that equation for trucks sold?
@69Cam6207 жыл бұрын
The real sales figures for the Silverado/Sierra (the Silverado/Sierra twins must be combined since the F150 doesn't have a model twin)= 2016: 796,556 units (kudos to Ford), 2009: 428,386 units (kudos to GM), 2004: 894,524 units (kudos to Ford, well both companies really, that's a lot of trucks), and in 2001: 926,205. GMC had it's best year in 2005, that makes for a total unit number of 935,468. Point here is that the numbers aren't all that lopsided. If you like the GM twins you'll buy whichever has the better looking grille to you in the year you are in the market for a new truck. And Ford knows they are manipulating data when they claim to have the undisputed best seller for 35 years, which is false if you combine the GM trucks (they are the same truck).
@jaydenbecker27577 жыл бұрын
but they aren't the same truck because they are sold by different branches of GM that's like counting ranger sales and mazda b series sales together and calling them one truck
@69Cam6207 жыл бұрын
Different branches in name, but same assembly line. Until they hit the trim section in the assembly plant you wouldn't know which was a Chevrolet and which was a GMC. Mazda is a different company, not the same comparison.

Chad Glaser GMC is 20k more than a F150 OTL for equal trim. Your shillpal account has been credited 35 cents.
@grahamcouture67867 жыл бұрын
Chad Glaser yeah, but that's all part of marketing. It's basically just bragging about anything they can that's better than the competition in any way possible. Even look at the Chevy commercial where they compare the aluminum to the steel beds. Sure, in that specific application the steel held up better, but in other applications, the aluminum will hold up better, such as when something small hits it at a high velocity (such as hail), and the aluminum doesn't rust, and it's lighter. Ford also wouldn't be able to claim that the Super Duty lineup has the best towing if they didn't include the F-450 in their lineup, although the F-350 has the highest payload. Also, most of the best in class numbers on all manufacturers are best by a small margin. For example, the 2017 Duramax has best in class horsepower, beating the PowerStroke only by 5. The Powerstroke only has 15 more lb-ft of torque, but it is still advertised as the best in class for torque.

What people don't say is if you combine sierra and Silvarado since their the same truck out sales the f 150
@jeffkrus6457 жыл бұрын
I have a few things to point out about these stats. 1) the F-150 extended cab or "SuperCab" as they call it does still have 4 doors. Just the two rear doors open the opposite way and you have to open the front door first. A little bit of an inconvenience, but not enough to stop me from purchasing my supercab. 2) The main reason for the difference for difference in sales is probably due to GM also selling the GMC Sierra alongside the Silverado.
@grahamcouture67867 жыл бұрын

The main reason for me going with Ford has nothing to do with these numbers. May seem silly, but I hate not being able to TURN OFF Chevy headlights at night with the engine running, and I like the Ford doors opening up with a pull of the handle even if the door is locked.
@countrymountaintrade7 жыл бұрын
GM truck headlights can be turned off by simply rotating the switch to off and they will stay off for that engine cycle. You have to pull the GM door handle twice for it to open when locked. First pull it remains locked for little hands that might be riding at arms length.

I personally prefer GM/Chevy over Ford, though Ford has made leaps and bounds on their quality over the last 20 or so years. I would drive either truck, as they are both awesome, but my preference still stands with the Chevy. Also, do not forget that the 10 speed Auto Transmission on the Ford was made in Partnership with GM/Chevy. Though currently I believe Chevy is only using it in the Camaro ZL1 (I could be wrong)

I always liked the look of the GM/ CHEVY trucks a little more. So i guess you'd say i prefer them of the big 3 trucks. But GM in modern era has a company has proven they can't be trusted (ignition scandal) and they are making some of their trucks in Mexico , where as the F150 is still made in the USA. If i had to buy a new truck between the two i'd prob go with the F150. Dodge quality is still not good. So for a Full Size truck in the half ton class i'd prob go Tundra (made in USA with many US made parts ) or Ford F150.

gthompson306 this needed to be said. They are both good options, it just comes down to which one is better for you. If you want some of the technology features that Ford has, it is the better truck. Ford has 1 2-door option and 2 4-door options, they are just sucide doors. The bed is 5"6' not 5"5'. The 3.5 N/A V6 is 285hp not 385. The F150 also comes with a 36 gallon tank with the 3.5TT and V8. Also, you forget to mention that body rust is a thing of the past with the aluminum body, and no minivan shifter in the F150 haha

You didn't get that into the engine designs such as overhead valves, dual overhead cams, how many valves each engine has, fuel injection, vvt or vvl, how each engine is made, how the turbos are set up in the fords and why gm went naturally aspirated.

As soon as i saw the title of this video, and then saw the pictures of the trucks being reviewed i immediately thought to myself "this person is either sloppy, or doesn't know what they are talking about, or both. After watching the video, most of it anyway, i concluded it's probably both. The silverado picture is a 2500, or 3500 hd, not a 1500. You said the normally aspirated 3.5 puts down 385 hp and 387 lb ft of torque. Those are the numbers for the 5.0. The 3.5 ffv is NOWHERE near that. You also said the 6.2 chevy puts out 450 lb ft of torque. No, it puts out 460 lb ft. At least you got the horsepower right on that one.

To be fair, add the GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado together and you will see sales are pretty equal with Ford.

Professor Dave I like the videos but I just cant go out and spend this large amount of money on a pickup truck. It is just a shame that the average American cant buy a new pickup at an affordable price. Sure we could lease it but its a truck its going to get used as one. Just my opinion on it. I'll just search the used market when I'm in the market for a truck. What ever happened to the poor mans Cadillac ???

Pureservice A work truck is 20-25 k if you cannot afford that you are doing something wrong .
@kingdaniel35197 жыл бұрын
I disagree. A basic work truck shouldn't be more than 20K. You can't even get a basic 4x4 for under 30.

It's possible to get it under $30k! Ford does promotions all the time. I was recently shopping for a truck. Found quite a few of them priced at ~28k that were the base s'crew XL's with 4x4 but no options. Since it was more of a purchase for my wife, upgraded to the XLT Sport with luxury package. It had a listed MSRP for ~50k but during June/early-July Ford had promotions on their XLT trims that totaled ~10k off, haggled 5k off the asking price from dealer, with taxes, fees, and 6/100k warranty total price I paid was 38k. Buying any vehicle is all about doing your homework (know what the MSRP is, dealers always mark up the price then add in fees for more profit, you can always haggle that mark-up down to MSRP), willingness to walk away from the deal, and planning/timing (i.e. if you know you'll be needing to replace/purchase a vehicle within a year, start window shopping until you find a good deal).

Does anyone everything about all those GMC pickups? I wonder how many pickups GM puts out? I’d bet they would be about even.

Chevy and gmc pickups are the same truck, so why not add the sales together to get total sales
@everymandriver7 жыл бұрын
If they're the same truck, then why do they have different names? Shouldn't they be called the same name if they're the same?
@gordgillespie45537 жыл бұрын
Everyman Driver GMC is the only major not to combine their truck lines.When Chrysler had Dodge and Plymouth dealers, one carried Dodge trucks and the other Fargo trucks, Ford dealers had the Ford pickup and the Mercury dealers sold the Mercury pickup, and Chev/Olds dealers had the Chevrolet pick up and the Pontiac/Olds and the GMC truck dealerships sold the GMC branded pickup. Nowadays there are fewer name brands from the three domestics and Chevrolet is the only one left that has not combined their pickup under one name.

You got the ford 3.5 v6 non-turbo hp and torque wrong its 282 hp and 253 torque check the ford website for proof.

need to speak of rear diff ratios. Example my 2011 F150 3.5 eco only came with 3:73 rear axle, now since the aluminum body rear gear ratio for max tow package on super crew ( which I have ) you get 3:55 only. GMC from 3:08- 3:42. according to my local Chevrolet dealer the max gearing is 3:42 in their 6.2 crew cab tow max package. I have heard rumors it can be had with 3:73. So far I've not been able to lock that down, maybe you guys can. Also only 1 box length for the GMC truck 6.2 tow max. 5ft and a little, not enough for me, at least. My F150 has 6' 6" which I have found on most travel trailer hauling isn't too much when coolers, bbq grill, generator ect, ect. So I know the GMC 5' and change is going to be too small, at least for me. Know I know people will say to put more stuff in the trailer but if you don't load cargo correctly in the trailer that starts and sometimes ends in disaster. I tow a 32' travel trailer and my F150 eco does seem to me to strain some in larger inclines and at over 70-75 mph it won't shift to 6th gear on its own. at 50-60 mph 6th gear, no problems and I do especially love the trailering control program on the truck in that when I connect the wiring the truck program is also shared by the trailer to activate which wheels need braking done by the program in the truck. Should one find themselves in a sudden change in conditions ie. passing a big rig or being surrounded by woods on each side of the expressways and you get a big blast of wind ( which I have ) the computer shuts down the radio volume, stsrts appling brakes to the truck and trailer to straighten out the situation and does an excellent job of doing so. I was going 60 mph and thought I was headed for disaster but not the case with this built in program which is standard on all F150's or was. After comparison shopping when I bought the truck GMC never offered a trailer tow enhancement to whatever you towed except for the trailer lights. The 3.5 is quite powerful and I had to do my due diligence just to see how the truck would perform in a loaded down condition. So on a day with very little traffic I decided to see what she had. From a 40 mph roll I gassed it up, held to the wood as we say, now trying to pay attention to everything the next available time I had to look at the speedo we were passing the 95 mph mark and I immediately got right out of it as that was more than plenty for me and I've towed many a trailers over many years and NO I do not advocate or advise anyone try it unless you have access to private facilities. Now if FORD WOULD JUST FIX THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER PROBLEMS THAT THEY ARE KEENLY AWARE OF AND HAVE BEEN SINCE 2011 AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT MADE A PERMANENT FIX YET. YES I'M TALKING ABOUT 2017'S AS WELL. Thank you for this opportunity!!

Jeffery Abeare I know I'm glad to hear a 2011 3.5 eco has made it this far! Ford makes lemons, too. Gives me tons of hope for my 2017, as I do alot of cross country driving.

The LS engine on the Chevy is very durable, but I would get the F150 because of the aluminum body, it will never rust.
