"It is the grace of God that takes away the effects of the fall, pushing back anxiety and makes labor meaningful and sweet and gives true restfulness." - Ptr. John Piper

"So there remains a Shabbat rest for the people of God. For the one who has entered God’s rest has also ceased from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through the same pattern of disobedience." - Hebrews 4:9-11

So we are suppose to obey the Sabbath day? It almost sounds like that is what this verse is saying:)

I hadn't realized I was listening to pastor Piper, just pastor John, wondering who pastor John is. I did get a good message here but I am still having trouble hearing what you have to say about sin when I remember you putting abortion as a secondary consideration in the last election, especially now when we see what this new presidency has done, is doing opposing life. I always wonder if pastors ever see their wrong choices and repent of them. Thats not my business but you may consider how that choice is received on judgment day especially considering your position and how that must have influenced others. Regardless of the personality and immaturity of that new Christian in the White House he stood against the taking of the unborn. So my question. How do you feel about your stance now?

On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do." - Deuteronomy 5:12-14

This is ridiculous. There are lots of reasons why a person may not be motivated by said reason. They could be struggling with depression, burn out, anxiety, perfectionism, unresolved trauma. To say that anyone who doesn't feel motivated by said reasons to work is slothful is really damaging and misleading.

that's probably not what he was saying though. like ... there has to be a level of ... whats the word im looking for? benefit of the doubt doesn't sound right but close enough? there has to be a certain level of benefit of the doubt you give people. say a benefit of the doubt that in this case Piper is talking about just regular functioning individuals not people suffering burn out, anxiety, trauma, depression, etc. these are all perfectly good reasons someone may struggle to work, but unless he said something like "this stupid depression burn out nonsense is just some modern day myth by this generation back in my day that wasn't a thing we just worked, this stuff isn't a thing they're being LAZY" or whatever ... yea sure I'm all for what your saying. but he didn't say anything even close to that, so I think it would be fair to assume until stated otherwise that this is probably aimed more at normal functional individuals who just want to work and not the types you listed.

Not in California, John Piper. The laziness of the sluggerds is rewarded and the diligent do not get their rest and they are having harder times paying for things. But there is going to come a day when I can rest from my work. THE GLORIOUS DAY OF CHRIST YOU SHALL NOT ROB ME OF MY PEACE, JOHN PIPER.

Have you read the gospels? The Pharisees used the argument that you just commented to try and outsmart Jesus. The point is, Jesus told us the sabbath, a rest day, is for YOUR good, for YOUR restfulness. At the same time, you can use your common sense to tend to absolutely necessary things on sabbath day. Are you taking a nice stroll on sabbath and see somebody drowning near a pond shore? Well the Pharisees would argue that you let them drown, because you must rest on sabbath. Jesus said that you indeed should use your common sense specifically on Sabbath to do the things necessary in front of you. Save the drowning person on Sabbath. Basically, make food for your kids on Sabbath.
