Conclusion: Despite an inverse association between milk and dairy intake and risk of osteoporosis and hip fracture in cross-sectional and case-control studies, no such association was seen in cohort studies. Given the advantages of the cohort over case-control studies, we concluded that a greater intake of milk and dairy products was not associated with a lower risk of osteoporosis and hip fracture.

Fortunately for me at aged 58 I started at a gym at exactly 20 years old to maintain a healthy body for my 50's. That has stood me in good stead. I lived in a Mediterranean country for years, eat huge amounts of fruit & veg & still exercise religious. Your words of wisdom & advice should be said to women in their 20's as well as 50+. Starting young as I did means a healthy body always. You are clear & concise.

I just spent 2 weeks at Immanuel Hospital in Berlin, Germany, for osteoporosis. The nutritionist told me today they no longer advise calcium tablets, but I should sprinkle raw milk cheese, or Parmesan cheese over every meal. And no coffee with it. I also need more carbohydrates. So I bought a buckwheat bread. Delicious? I love what you are doing. Thank you so much Glory.

Interesting. Wheatgrass helps detox the liver. Just to say ... little smile. I'm definitely learning lot's. As for using B6: from a class I took while I was being certified for Natural Health it was stated that you cannot do just one b-vitamin by itself and expected to reach his full potential. You also must use a Vitamin B-Complex aside the extra one or two B vitamins that you may need more of. I definitely have included all of those dark greens into my diet on a regular basis! Side all of the rest of the things she list. I'm also using the little bit of coconut oil everyday, 1 teaspoon. I'm due for a dexa scan so I'm excited to learn if my bones have increased its density at all after 6 months I've trying to increase my bone density. I actually used the algaecal plus and the strontium for the first 6 months. By the time they had finally get a bone density test on me my bone density was -3!

I barely tapped into this next topic about building bones but I don't know enough about it to express a lot about it. But it's my understanding that a particular protein is needed. Does anyone here know anything about that? I also eat salmon every other cooked meal! I make enough that I literally eat it for a few days, usually over my dark green salad. Which is piled on top of a 10 inch plate!

Some good info here but no complete protein in this diet is a concern. All the amino acids you need for complete bone strength you can not get from a vegetarian diet. Your bones need ALL amino acids. Some may increase bone density on this type of diet but increasing bone strength and quality to the best degree possible requires all amino acids that come from meat. Having good bone strength is also a key factor that can only be obtained by eating complete proteins. The dxa scan does not measure bone strength, only bone density. If you fall and your bone density has improved, if you do not have good bone strength you are still likely to break your bones. To build bone density and strength in the optimal way you need to eat complete proteins. Without proper amino acids you cant build your muscles in the best way and create the pull on your bones through weight lifting or weight bearing to really improve your overall bone health. Bone strength is key to not breaking a bone. The REM scan is the best way to get a true picture of quality and quantity of bone. Do your own research through other sites.

Thank you for your time and extensive comment. I have gathered your comment and others like them to present to several WFPB doctors for them to address with me in the future. They have decades of experience, personally and professionally, working with patients and successfully moving patients to health via a WFPB diet that leads to good, long-term health in all areas of the body, not only in the bones. We will address your concerns and beliefs in future videos. As you can imagine, all of these doctors (and there are dozens of them who I am familiar with) are extremely busy because they have helped hundreds and thousands of people (depending on how long they've been practicing medicine and lifestyle medicine in particular), and because they've successfully helped people gain health, and long-term health in particular, these doctors are booked. So please be patient as I schedule time to speak with them and create videos of those conversations. Meanwhile, after 25 years of being WFPB myself, my bones are getting stronger. For the first time in many years of cross country skiing, I fell skiing yesterday (first XC fall in abut 25 years), and I'm fine. I was strong enough to get up on the angled, slippery slope where I fell. I'm 64 years old. Even my dentist has commented on my strong bones in my jaw. Overall health isn't just about osteoporosis nor is it only about bone health. In the US, we are much more likely to die of heart disease, cancer, or stroke-related issues than we are to die from osteoporosis.

@@gloryb-tv thank you. I hear you. I agree with a lot of that. I understand. I reversed my osteop too and it keeps getting better every year. I am 63. One big change was adding white meat plus other changes. Less running much more pretty heavy weight lifting and micronutrients. I have fallen on concrete on ice many times while running and nothing has happened. My Mom had severe osteop fell a lot too and didnt break anything till 91. She played tennis ran and weight lifted till 91. She ate meat too. So her bone quality and strength saved her until she was pretty old. I was vegetarian. No longer. The pieces to osteop reversal are a puzzle that can take time and are complex. I am glad you are having some success!

I think avoiding GMOs, & eating veggies & grains that are organic is the most important factor. When it comes to dairy products, it is very important that the cows are grass fed & have not been given hormones or antibiotics. Also stay away from boxed cereals & canned foods that are found in the grocery stores. I believe our biggest problem comes from the toxins that have significantly tainted the soil & are now in the food products.

Bulgur and spelt are definitely not gluten free! It’s just two different sorts of wheat - bulgur is made from durum wheat which is a hard type of wheat, as well as spelt is a just hard type of wheat. But they do contain gluten just like any other type of wheat. 🤷‍♀️ Please correct this, because you do have a very important and true message besides of this misconception of “gluten free wheat products”. ❤

What happened to MEAT?? Talking about nutrient density? Way better off eating grass fed beef than grains, many of which are not well tolerated by people with gut issues (which is how we ended up with osteoporosis in the first place!) Protein is essential to building bones, and meat is way easier to digest than many of the plants you list (including nuts and seeds, half of which are loaded with oxalates - especially almonds and “whole grains”).

I don't agree. I've been doing this and studying it for over 25 years. All of the people I've followed - as they've aged - their health has been excellent. Long-term is the true test. Whole-food, plant-based is the most healthy way to live.

Hi Glory, Thanks again for another great video! ~ I tried taking the Grow Bone System after watching your talk w/ Dr. Denise. I tried it several times and unfortunately I’m unable to tolerate it. Would you happen to know if the other bone supplements you mentioned, such as Algae Cal might have less chance of GI upset? I did take it as directed, but always ended up in the bathroom for a good part of the day!😢

This is a "copy & paste" from reponses Dr. Shostek has give to other viewers who've written that they're having some type of digestive issue taking the Garden of Life Grow Bone System (or any other calcium product): (1) You may have difficulty digesting calcium. Your symptoms MAY include any of the following: abdominal distress, loose stool, discomfort, bloating, nausea, etc. One issue with causing these symptoms is not having enough stomach acid. To fix this, Dr. Shostek suggested taking a digestive enzyme which has HCl. She explains, "The absorption of calcium is influenced by conditions within the lumen of the small intestine. The acid secretion from the stomach converts the calcium to a salt, which is absorbed primarily in the duodenum. Unabsorbed calcium is precipitated in the ileum and is excreted in the feces." Below is a link to an article about it: "Hypochlorhydric stomach: a risk condition for calcium malabsorption and osteoporosis?" - pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19958055/ Dr. Shostek recommends taking Enzymix-Pro which is an enzyme that contains HCl. She says if you would like access to order this, let her know and she will send you a link with discounts. Dr. Shostek's website: www.mynaturalhealthcenter.com/ (2) Garden of Life products contain a lot of dried food, and some people are allergic to some of the foods in their products. If the solution for #1 above doesn't work with the particular enzyme Dr. Shostek suggested, her second option is to take half of the calcium in the Garden of Life Grow Bone System (in the brown bottle). So you would take 1 in the morning and 1 at lunch. (3) If you still can't "stomach" the Garden of Life Grow Bone System after trying #1 and #2 above: In my first osteoporosis video where I interviewed Dr. Shostek, I mentioned Dr. Jorge Flechas and his videos describing how he reversed his wife's osteoporosis and his own osteopenia using higher dosages of boron. One of his videos is at this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z160eZqIo6uWfNE and the second video is at this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZOWeGWBq5yei5o The boron he mentioned is the Hakala Labs Boron tablets: www.hakalalabs.com/BoroTab-Boron-Tablets_c_20.html

There are several doctors in the US who have worked with patients who have an autoimmune issue (or more than one autoimmune issue) and have completely reversed those issues by getting them on a whole food, plant-based diet. Two of them are Dr. Alan Goldhamer and his team at TrueNorth Health Center - www.healthpromoting.com/ and Dr. Joel Fuhrman - www.drfuhrman.com/ There are several other doctors who've been doing this for years as well, but you can start with these two doctors. They haven't had instances where a patient couldn't do the WFPB diet.

The study subjects were elderly men and, more importantly, the study doesn't show who paid for the study.
