Well, schizophrenia is often first diagnosed in the teens (the standard is first psychotic break: teens to early twenties; can be somewhat later for females) so I don't know why two psychiatrists had trouble with that. Anyway, you have phenomenal insight, which is a rarity, and gives you a much greater chance of maintaining stability. I'm a retired therapist and my favorite clients were schizophrenics - actually, most of us in three clinics where I worked felt that way. You guys are heroes for putting up with your internal turmoil, scary thoughts and/or hallucinations, organizing your lives or completing simple tasks, and coping with the hassle and judgment of the external world. One of the most heartbreaking things in my career was to see young a person experiencing his/her first "break." It was rare to see a supportive family behind them. I could picture the decades ahead of stopping and starting meds, or refusing all help, homelessness, self-medicating with various substances, dangerous situations and run-ins with the law, eventual inability to feed or clothe themselves. Whatever you do, young man, even if you think you don't need it, please stay on medication. Warmest wishes from a retired Listener in Oregon.🍃🦋🍃

I wasn't diagnosed with mental health problems until my mid 20's now I'm 49. But by mid 20's the the damage had already been done. It ruined and stole the life I should have had instead of the one I got. My Zoloft only lasts about 12 hours. Once it's worn off everything comes back. I feel like butter spread over too much bread at this point. But I'm still alive so I guess that's a bonus.

Thank You. * heres a thought: perhaps, all young people 'struggle' (as you said) with 'self happiness', and they do so, due to 'lack of experience'. It's not for a judgemental lense, it's just a equation. Self happiness, is a result of 'experience'. Your parents are very fortunate to have your good company! No parent signed up for EASY. Admittedly, every parent signed up for the road less traveled, & (some what?) exquisite lives the poetry there. Purhaps, being a 'good witness' is a key to 'self happiness'. Kudos to you and yours, and ALL the outstanding accomplishments, along the way, on your roads less traveled. ❤

I think the biggest misconception when it comes to any type of mental illness or even neurological disorders is that people often assume all the symptoms are the same for everyone. I know some aren’t as wide of a spectrum as something like autism but regardless things effect people in different ways… not to mention the ways different medications can create even more side effects for different people, the way drugs and alcohol can effect people who use them to self medicate, and how often people have more than one diagnosis. Anyway, l love your channel and how honest and open you are. I’ve always been vastly interested in the mind, psychology, mental illness, etc. But l became even more interested after my son was diagnosed with autism I 2016 right before his 2nd birthday. I completely agree that self diagnosis is not a good thing. If you aren’t sure about a diagnosis (weather it’s your own or your child) there is nothing wrong with getting a 2nd opinion.. - with my son, he checked every single box when it came to a autism diagnosis so the day we took him in to get evaluated I knew we would be walking out with an autism diagnosis but up to that point l only ever said l very strongly believe that’s what he had but until he was seen by a professional to confirm that l never stated that was for sure what he had.

I was diagnosed with brief psychotic disorder one year ago, but I left my med and I didn't go back to the psychiatrist anymore. I didn't have auditory hallucinations, but sometimes my own internal voice was telling me things but it wasn't a different, just like when u talk with urself .I I had persecutory delusions, I was thinking that someone was going to kidnapp me and after that torture me and kill me. I was linking every unusual thing that happened to me or around me to a complot of the police to kidnapp me. I couldn't sleep I was all the time watching through the windows,just waiting for them to come. I thought that my cellphone was hacked, I deleted my social media, etc. My mom was afraid of me, and when they took me to psychiatrist I was thinking that they were going to hurt me. But I think that the psychiatrist didn't believe me and he thought that I was a criminal a liar. Cuz everything began after I was arrested cuz I went to a party and it was illegal because of the pandemic public and private parties were illegal at that time. But now I'm feeling weird, I don't know how to xpplain is like if I'm afraid again but I know that I can control it, if I see a suspicious car parked in front of my house I memorize the car registration, I know thats no healthy for me to do that, but somehow I feel that they are now looking for me again. But not like before just a weird feeling and thoughts that come to me sometimes bit I pass of thinking that and I feel better. Do u think that I need professional help or not,.cuz now I'm not thinking bout it all the yime like before but sometimes I feel that weird feeling, that I used to feel but now obviously less intensive than before.

what you are describing sounds like the prodromal stage of psychosis which can last for weeks to years. It’s very important to get mental health support from a professional to get evaluated. They will help you manage the symptoms you are experiencing. Early intervention is key towards halting an increase in the severity. Seek a professional, and see what is going on, you deserve it and you don’t have to suffer alone.
@Maxwales92
@Maxwales92 Жыл бұрын
To be honest this can be a residual effect of having an episode like you described. The key thing is that its less intense and you are aware that these thoughts are no rational. Keeping critical of such thoughts and not getting too worked up about them helps alot in my experience. However if it is really concerning you its worth seeing a doctor of course, stay strong sounds like you did very well with that illness in my opinion.

Three different mental health professionals each diagnosed my son with a different illness: schizophrenia, bipolar, and schizoaffective disorder. He was finally told there is so much overlap between each of them that it's becoming more common to group them under the same umbrella. Sort of like individuals who were previously diagnosed as having Aspergers are now said to be on the autism spectrum.

Thank you for your video. I have a friend who's son is obviously schizophrenic. She is in total denial and says that he's experiencing psychosis due to an adrenal tumor. She has taken him to several specialists, had tests run. No tumor He just stop taking respiridone and flipped out. Because she keeps telling the crisis team and the cops that he has a medical issue, they won't put him on a 51/50. So the madness continues. How do you help someone to accept reality and that it's nothing to be ashamed of before something horrible happens? Btw, his father is schizophrenia effect and she denies that too, saying he's just bipolar. He says he hears voices all the time and last year, they were telling him to kill her

i do consider important for parents and doctors to be there emotionally for their kid. from the experiences i've learned about, schizophrenia can be a very scary thing for the person dealing with it. every tutor, parent and doctor should provide care and love to their child who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia or a related psychotic disorder. and families should seek help as well if the experience is draining for them, so that they can be present in their child's life.

I'm studying psychology in order to be a psychologist afterwards, these kinds of videos help a lot with making everything more 'human' if that makes sense. Learning these things only from a textbook just never seemed right to me. It creates such a distance between 'normal' people and people with mental disorders. Especially since I have two brothers, one with (severe) autism and one with adhd, and they are just normal human beings who deserve love and an amazing life like everyone else. The only difference is that they might struggle with certain things that most people don't.

In university studies they say that if the mother has a high flu while 6 months pregnant the flu can cause the unborn babies brain to heat up with the mothers high temperature and can cause growth abnormalities. That's one theory and another is If the pregnant woman drinks alot or is an alcoholic, before during and after the baby is born the woman continues to drink while breastfeeding that it causes either retardation fas or schizophrenia in the child. And the third one is the baby being exposed to lead or paint or toxins while in utero and after birth and the fourth last one is drug induced psychosis from marijuana or cocaine if the ages are between 14 and 26 at the latest.

So many great points on mental health. The human condition is the same for everyone we all have to deal with it lol. Also it's definitely better to get an expert opinion but sometimes even the experts get it wrong and it's best to try understand ourselves and that we are all human with a little bit of everything. Also about KZbin as a career it's not reliable long term, things like electrician or plumbing apprenticeship they are life skills and help us to grow and learn which for me keeps me entertained but also provide a decent income. There are many blessings to appreciate in life and down times are temporary. I seen a meme recently that said when life is tough, be patient 🤣

Thank you so much for the help. I’m so happy for you. My son wants to help people also. He is suffering greatly. He’s motivated but exhausted, can’t eat or sleep. Can I ask you what meds you take. My son is fearful to take meds. I get it and I just want some support for him. I’ve researched Invega. Have you tried it? I wish he had a friend he could trust. He’s amazing and I try to help but he thinks I’m against him. It is so hard to watch him suffer with no joy and declining. He’s too tired to do much and has lost interest in almost everything. He believes he can do it without meds but I am scared because I see it taking him away. I wish you all the best and I’m so happy to see you share your experiences. I love my son with all my heart and he is amazing, so kind, loyal, and I want his happiness, only. What can I do to help when I see him declining. I feel nothing I say is right. So frustrating when you can’t help. He is upset with me because I’m encouraging medication. I want to see his life improve and I am aware that meds can make things better and worse at the same time. I admire your strength and Courage to be a educator. This is by far the hardest illness I can imagine because it is in your head and you can’t take a break from it. I never dreamed my son would have to deal with this and he is so strong and still so kind, but I see it devastating him. Don’t know what to do. The more I try the worse I make it, but leaving him to suffer without trying meds seems like the wrong thing. He lives alone and is doing a lot but can’t go out to shop or enjoy anything. Then I trigger him and I don’t mean to. He gets so angry with me and I feel helpless to assist him. Having a conversation is difficult, now, and that makes me so sad for him and for us. Any suggestions. He also has PTSD both officially diagnosed.
