I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for..

Plz dont let this scare you guys / girls ....there are many many many great places in the Philippines near the beach for much much less ! This is western type living in a gated “safe space” community ... I’ve rented really nice places near the beach for 350-400 a month ! And I actually got to feel /know I was in the Philippines 🇵🇭❤️ 🇺🇸✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻 I miss it terribly ❤️🇵🇭🥺

When my Grandmother retired she pick Bohol Phil. Her backyard is right on the beach. It's was a large 2 story house, large front yard, modern bathrooms, European style air conditioners, modern kitchen with outdoor kitchen, pool, 5 bedrooms, two car garage, and a lot of other perks. She had 2 maids that comes in everyday and a laundry woman the comes in twice a week, Internet and cable. Total cost of living a month for the whole thing including rent was $ 700 a month.

A thousand U.S. dollars for a rental place anywhere in the Philippines is, nothing to brag about, way too much money! That's more like a house payment here in America. They must've built that subdivision mostly for foreigners so that they can charge them those outrageous prices to naive foreigners. Everything is expensive in Cebu because there are a lot of foreigners living there so they purposely jack up the prices on everything. Sorry but that's my opinion based on my trip there and my observations. In Ohio, where i live, you can rent a beautiful condo with 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms with a two car garage for 750.00 dollars per month.

As a fellow Washington resident in Tacoma, about 40 mins from Seattle, $1000 will definitely get you a tiny studio. So watching your house tour for $1000 a month is also cheap in my eyes. But I gotta remember that $1000 in the Philippines is a lot. Not sure if I wanna live too far away from everything though.

If you have severe health problems and coming from the US, you shouldn't fully move to the Philippines. Most hospitals in remote areas like cebu aren't fully equipped that normal hospitals would have in the US. Most filipinos who worked in the US but returned to the Philippines are 50/50 going back n forth just to keep up with their health.

@@Anonymint-vj7bt . I have lived more than half of my adult life in the Philippines, spanning 42 plus years since Year 1980. My Filipina wife and I are snowbirds for 15 plus years and divide our time between homes in the USA and the Philippines. While in the Philippines I have received world class healthcare at some of the finest hospitals in southeast Asia in Metro Manila. I have known many western expats over the past 20 years who have received superior healthcare at a fracture of the cost of their home country.

@@Anonymint-vj7bt Please take the time to carefully read my posting. I mentioned in my previous posting I have lived in the Philippines kore than half of my adult life, spanning 42 years since Year 1980. I do not visit the Philippines. My Filipina wife and I have two homes. Our house in Eastern Samar and condo in Ermita Manila. Please do not make assumptions regarding my experiences. I have lived in the Philippines long before you were born and have been hospitalized in the Philippines numerous times over the past twenty years. I have actual experiences. I was hospitalized (Dec 27, 2013 to February 10 2014) at Manila Doctors for 7 full weeks (49 days) with a rare auto immune disorder - Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), I was paralyze from the chest down, unable to care for self and wore adult diapers for six full weeks until I was able to get out of bed on my own to use the CR. I was in ICU for more than a week, unable to breath without a ventilator and close monitoring. I was very close to meeting my maker. The very professional and skilled doctors at Manila Doctors Hospital saved my life. While I was in the hospital, a close friend/neighbor suffered a heart attack and had quadruple bypass at the same hospital. His hospital room was right next to mine for three days. I am retired US military and also a disabled veteran. When I was active duty I suffered catastrophic life threatening injuries and massive head trauma, resulting in a traumatic brain injury. Because of my disabilities, and long time residency here in the Philippines I have more experience than most people I have met. Your comments regarding Filipino doctors being lazy and not staying abreast of recent research and development is unfair. Maybe these are your experiences, but I know many western expats who have received excellent critical healthcare from the various hospitals in Metro Manila including myself. There are good and bad hospitals everywhere in the world and not limited to the Philippines. While I was in the USA I suffer plantar fasciitis (PF) and was treated for more than a year at a local hospital in Oregon. Ortho doctors were unable to fix my PF. When my wife and I made our annual snowbird trip to the Philippines and we stayed in our Manila condo. I was treated at Makati Med by skilled othopedic doctor. Two months later my PF went away without surgery. Filipino doctors treated my PF, where stateside doctors failed.

Pretty home but I think you are paying the foreigner rate. You are comparing it to Seattle so of course it would be cheaper than any US city and that’s the mistake foreigners make: compare to prices back home and then you end up paying what you think is cheap. But you could get a way better deal. However the house is pretty and the sitting area in the garden is awesome for some night gatherings and enjoy some wine.

Davao is actually cheaper while still offering services. Surigao may be streets from the 18th century, but you don't have to go far south to see some of the most beautiful scenery in the Philippines.
