I was literally fixing to order a cushion when your video came across! Your video in the comments below it gave me new questions to ask the salesman. Being in isolation do to covid, I would not have asked some pretty important questions and got the wrong pad for what I need. Especially the cover! Thank you, and what great timing

My cushion came in this week. The Comfort Curve is what I decided on. On the bottom it came with two squares for Velcro. The cushion has the fuzzy side. It did not come with the plastic squares. Is that the preferred way to put Velcro on is with the plastic on the seat and the fuzzy side on the pad?

Mine slides all over the place too but I’ve pretty much stop it by purchasing some shelf liner from Walmart and putting velcro on it and sticking it on the bottom of the cushion cover. You can remove it when washing the cushion of course. I put the shelf liner on my footrest also.

I like the stimulite supracore cushion. I used roho before but got tired of punctures and complete loss of pressure. I made my own cushions from 3 1" memory foam 16x18 pieces for a while but they don't sell them anymore 😔

I've been paraplegic for many years and am incontinent. I recommend the Supracor Stimulite cushion with honeycomb cells that last for years and is easy to clean. Also ROHO cushions with air cells that are easy to wash, and are the best by far for pressure relief. My cat punctures the air cells with her claws, so I'm considering a hybrid version with air cells in the pelvic area and foam around the perimeter. And get side guards for your wheelchair, they protect the cushion and your clothes.

Hi I've used a jay2 for years ,but I need to go onto an air cushion now. I think I'm going to have a jay air which is half foam and half air where your butt is. A little tip ,if your just waiting for your cover to dry and your just wheeling around the house you can put a pillow case on your cushion as a temporary cover.

As far as the confort level is concerned, my dad has the original cushion that came with his Drive brand chair. He has CMT. For over 5 years, until he was hospitalized with a brain bleed, he split his mobility between his chair & a 4 wheel walker. Whenever he would go from standing to sitting, he would just drop. He wrecked his 1st chair in 2 years. His last 3 years of walking, he lived in an assisted care facility. In his 80's, he didn't want the "old" people to see how slow he walked, so he used the wheel chair in the public areas. That cushion is still in good condition. I'm also sure he's got nearly 100 lbs on you. So maybe contact Drive & see what is available from them.

I just got a new chair with a Varilite Meridian. I chose description because I’ve been using a Roho for the last four decades and I’m tired of how they break down. The only time I’ve ever had a pressure sore is when they break down. The only thing I don’t like about this new cushion is those tubes coming out the sides? I find that very ridiculous. Thank you for making this video. You shouldn’t of had to spend over $1000 for that cushion. I seen them online for over $200. ROHOs only last 2 or 3 years and the warranty is only 90 days. So that’s completely useless.

Stimulite might be a really good option for you I had one for my first cushion (20 years ago now) and a loved it is easy to clean and is fast drying...... I have used the ride and other foam cushions but I find foam to wear fast and difficult clean and dry...as for the roho I had 5 patches on mine in the first year they then got me a new bladder under warranty and that one had the exact same outcome with multiple patches in the first 12 months so I was determined to get a stimulite for my most recent cushion but Vicair had just came out with a new hybrid cushion so I got that because it was cheaper than the Stimulite and I really do love it ...without side guards it may rub on the tires I can't say.. ..but you can not use it without its cover because the pockets for the air cells are part of the cover so when the cover is being cleaned you will need to use something else...same problem you are having now.... I have not used any of the Ki-mobility cushions but I love their Ethos chair I'm using of their hard backs and I love that also.... from what I understand their products are designed by people in wheelchairs so they may have some good options for cushions also....gell I found to feel hard and it was heavy I hope that helps you out some... I wish you well have a great day.

I can recommand the ROHO cushions in general. I use them for years, in the car, on my chair... , it is easy to clean and normally comes with an extra cover (because they are very aware of wheelchair Problems) ;) The only downside: if it looses any air because of a hole, you almost need an other one until it is fixed again... I live my life with 2 of them for 4 years now and am totally happy. Maybe, it is also an option for you? Take care, greets from switzerland, Sandra

I've had a Roho, Vicair, and Ride custom cushion before finding my favorite (Ride Java cushion). Definitely worth checking out. Been on one for the last 5 years with no issues. The foam comes with an incontinent cover on it, your butt bones float (so no pressure there), and I keep an extra cover to swap out when I need to wash the other one. They are around $375 USD.

I use a ROHO high profile cushion. The last i checked Amazon has it for around $400 to $450 US dollars. I like the ROHO but you need to check it daily to make sure it does not need more air. The negative to this cushion is when it has a leak you have to try to find it and than use a patch to fix it. Question can you send that piece of **** back for a refund?

Hi Tanelle, I'm sorry your seat didn't work out for you as it seems it was promised to you by the vendor. As far as it not having a incontinence cover is odd that it didn't already come with one autmoticly, not to mention you had asked for one prior to your order. Frustrating! After 30+ year's after my injury T5/T6 Complete. I've tried a good majority of seat, and back cushions. I started off with the Jay cushions jell back, and found that these work the best. I've tried 2 different versions of the Roho cushions. The flat, and the contoured rear cut out versions of the Rohos. I didn't like either due to the bladder cells in each didn't really give me stability while I was on them. Not to mention the semi checking on the air pressure, and using the pump, and front gage to make sure the cushion was properly inflated was kinda of a task for me to worry about each day. Though these types of cushions are highly recommended for those that are prone to pressure ulcers. In my case they just didn't work out for me unfortunately. For years after I found a company called Ride Designs that make cushions from a print/mold of your bottom... Then carve out the graphite cells that you sit on. Mapping your bottom should be done with all cushions you get. To make sure the cushions, and your bottom areas are free from high pressure areas. These cushions as other's come with the incontinence cover, as well as the breathable top covers. Below are the links to the Jay cushion, and Ride Design cushion. I'm not a rep for either company... Just what cushions worked, and did not work for me in the past. I'm sure there are other's out there that comparable to these types of cushions. I don't use wheel guards, but I've had the problems of having a cushion rubbing against a wheel. I either have the cushion cover tailored tightly, or I contact the vendor who I received the cushion from, tell them about the issue. They usually send me a smaller or tighter cover so that the cushion does not rub against the wheels. Hate that!.. I've had many bad day's as you had as you can tell by your tone of voice, and expressions during this video... But as you said in this video, and other's. These bad issues, and other's get better. Always away to get around them, and get back on track. I wish I had these videos when I was newly injured. ADA was just born when I was injured. These types of getting to know what to do, and how to get along videos would have helped tremendously! With that being said. I'm learning new things watching your videos after all these year's after my injury! Keep up the great work! All the best, Tony P/S: When I order a cushion, or a wheelchair. I call to make sure everything I want is being sent. Even when ordered by a occupational therapist, especially through a insurance company/worker's Compensation insurance. Those nice insurance companies like to cut corners, save money. So be careful with them the next time you order anything... www.ridedesigns.com/wheelchair-cushions www.sunrisemedical.com/seating-positioning/jay/wheelchair-cushions

I'm incontinent and use a ROHO extra duty cover for my Mosaic cushion. I also put like a T-Shirt over it. I don't know if that is any help. I also have the air cell cushion which will wash off quickly...but I can see why you'd be ticked...I would be too. That is $1,100 down the drain and that is a LOT of mula. Is it the same width as your chair...maybe that's why you don't have a lot of extra room for it? Not having side guards would be a deal breaker for me. Companies feel insurance companies will pay out the ying yang, so they charge ridiculous prices. I need a crane that will put my chair in the back seat of a truck. Malleys Industrial in NB quoted me 25 grand...JUST for the lift. I basically told him where to go. I personally don't know why you changed from the RIDE cushion. I'm glad you still have that as a back up one. I think you'll find air cell cushions will deflate...especially if they are underinflated to begin with. They do say to check them every day...but yes, that and the valves being in the front are annoying. They would charge even more if they came with 2 covers. That's what I meant when I said medical companies really take advantage of people needing medical supplies. I wasn't just being a jerk. When I first broke my neck and after I got off flat bed rest, I had a ROHO High Profile cushion and I thought it just felt like rocks. Of course I had just been injured too, so everything was uncomfortable. It was probably over inflated though. Then I had a bunch of cheap foam ones which were in themselves cheap and horrible. Then I was in the trauma unit of Mayo and had another ROHO High Profile one and it was so comfy, I considered swiping it 🤣...now I am on a ROHO Mosaic (after getting a pressure sore from a nonunion femur fracture (that was fun--by the way, Preperation H Ointment (NOT CREAM) fixed it up in one week. It was on the inside of my thighs and got worse because of the occasional bladder spasms,) I thought you cathed...is it bladder spasms with you as well? It's nice to know I am not alone although there HAS to be a better way. I don't like the Mosaic as much because it always feels bigger on the left (and even looks it), so I flip the bigger left side to the rear. Still, I prefer a ROHO air cell one.
@ProTipsForParas
@ProTipsForParas 4 жыл бұрын
I changed because I don't like the way my tailbone falls into the hole in the back of the cushion, as well as too much dump. Definitely have bladder spasms and incontinence. Maybe I'll go back to Ride, but it would be for a custom one. Or I like the look of the combination Roho

@@ProTipsForParas I really want to get the ROHO Nexus Spirit. Right now I have the ROHO Mosaic (don't get this one, you will not be happy with it--it is way too low (in between a high and low ROHO impact cushion...but the left side is higher than the right side. Even pictures of it you will think that...and that's because it IS). I keep mine turned sideways. I don't think it is enough cushioning to protect your tailbone if it is not inflated enough. They say to always have a back up, so I am getting the ROHO Airlite cushion. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01GWAM2RU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?smid=A3JF6MTZ8QD9UK&psc=1 and kzbin.info/www/bejne/baCQqJ6gj7yMq5Y. (By the way, if you scream and yell enough at the shipper, they will knock out the import fees.) It says air cells, but it looks foamy...so I don't know. I know you said you can't have foam anything because you run hot all the time (I do too--C4 here). Maybe you should do a video on regulating your body temp (or one for those who can't).

What a nightmare you have had! I have a love hate relationship with Rojo cushions. They are air filled so you need to know how to patch them and be sure they have enough air. If you get them wet just wash them off, shake the water off and carry on. Any excess water is taken away from your skin by gravity and the cushion covers dry very quickly. I have used them mostly since about 1989 (used foam cushions before). I usually get about 3 to 5 years before I need a new one. I currently have 3 that I rotate through... I haven't always had insurance that would pay for them so I bit the bullet and paid out of pocket when I had to. Money well spent. I've watched most of your vids and want to complement you on the quality and the info you present. I broke my back initially in 1980 and wish that your info was available back then!

$1100 CAD? Yikes! And here I complain about my ROHO cushions costing me around $400 USD. $1100 is crazy expensive for a cushion. But on a side note. I commend you on having the guts to be so open about your issue(s) and so on. Just proves how strong of a person you really are on the inside. By the way, I've been using ROHO Nexus Spirit cushions since 2016 and they have been awesome. I'm very prone to skin breakdowns no thanks to me being pretty skinny. I might weigh 96lbs on a good day but yet the Nexus cushions allow me to sit in my chair(s) pretty much all day without worrying about my butt breaking down. The best part about the Nexus cushions is they're super light weight but yet they provide excellent protection against skin breakdowns for skinny, boney people like me.

One of the dumbest designs I ever saw. That hose gots to go. Really good video because you touched on a lot of issues I've been going through for years with the cushions I've had. Just a couple weeks ago I thought to get some exercise and get me some chewing tobacco (bad habit). I wheeled about a half-mile to the station and the tire wore a hole in the cushion because it was rubbing. I had to wheel all the way back with no protection on my ass. I made it but my back paid for it. Edit: Side guards are important. If I had side guards the rubbing wouldn't have happened. In my new wheelchair I got the side guards and it fixes that issue.

Hi Tanelle. We've spoke a couple times before in the past. Blows your cushion is a piece. I've been using a roho hybrid elite cushion for 5 yrs now. It's a combination of air cells in the back along with having a foam base. I haven't had any issues other than standard leaks you can get from time to time but I found that shoe goo has stood the test of time in repairing them. I used foam cushions for a couple decades prior and they just didn't cut it for skin protection. Here's a link to see a pic. images.app.goo.gl/eEwNoV3nZopPLa468

This cushion is a very bad design indeed. I see many others on here use RoHo and I do too. It can be very risky for me not to wear protection at home. Most of the time I have disposable products on but rather than throw away unused items a good option is to wear washable protection. This is my go to solution at home quite a lot.

I'm a ROHO or Supracore Stimulite fan myself. ROHO is the best for pressure management but if you have a puncture it's a bit inconvenient to do the warranty/replacement dance. I also think rhe ROHO valve SUCKS and should be a regular old Schrader valve so you wouldn't need the ROHO pump. ROHO's get pinhole leaks from the stretching of the cells at the base when a user places a hand or fist on the pad for transfers over time. The Supracore Stimulite eliminates ALL of that since it has NO air or gell goo to leak out.

@calvincooley1074 4 жыл бұрын
@@ProTipsForParas I'm going to guess that the two are colse in weight. Something else I forgot to mention about the ROHO risk is that one must be careful not to just grab & go in that the rubber is more likely to "rip" or "tear".
