I had a delivery driver return 30 mins later holding one of my cats 🐈 "I believe he's yours?" Apparently, Dougal jumped in the van & surprised him by jumping on the passenger seat & enjoyed the drive 😂 We all had a good laugh!

Smart delivery man. It’s always in the mailman’s favor to get the dogs on his side 😂 Otherwise they might just be enemies… jk Our delivery driver used to do that before we got a different one. He did it to make our dogs feel better about a strangers appearance and would pet them as well. We didnt live in town so the site of a different person and vehicle in our yard was extremely alarming to them

I had a customer at my register the other day, buying all sorts of things for a cat. I asked if they were getting a new cat, or just spoiling their current one. They told me they were celebrating the return of their current cat, who had disappeared for 2 or 3 weeks (I forget how many weeks it was exactly). The cat had apparently climbed into a repairman’s van while he was at their house working, and had leaped out when he got to the next destination, miles away. Miraculously, the cat turned up at a shelter (again, if I recall correctly) and was chipped (not a miracle-get your pet chipped), and they got it back after they thought it was gone for good.

When my dog was a puppy my postman fell in love with him. He would ask for a cuddle every time I had a parcel delivered and would actually bring my mail in one item at a time to get in extra cuddles. I haven’t had any parcels delivered for a while and Bertie is now almost 2 years old. The postie was on leave for a couple of months so they hadn’t seen each other in a while but the other day when we were walking my postie rode past, then did a u-turn and came back to renew his friendship with Bertie. So lovely.

When I was a kid, Wally was our mailman for decades, and he bribed every dog with treats. EVERY DOG IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD LOVED THIS MAN. They were very protective of him too!

My father was a postman and he was also using this trick to bribe dogs, it's quite effective !! He had been attacked a few time though, some dogs are just too protective and not taught to be kind, and he delivered by bike so you can't protect yourself much, or in remote farms where dogs don't see a lot of stranger and will guard property and livestock.

@@MmmHuggles Afghan Hounds - most stupid dogs. They never learn... ever! My friend had one, when I was a kid, and that dog flew along the hallway when the postman arrived, to attack the letter box. Every day of its life, it skidded and smacked into the door, unable to stop on the polished parquet flooring, and then yelped in pain. Idiotic!

It's always cute to see a dog and someone bond but remember we have a duty of care not just for the dog but also for everyone they come into contact with. Some people don't like animals and one wrong move on your part could see the animal destroyed. Keep your pets safe and be responsible owners. My Golden Retriever Molly loved the UPS Driver and the Mailman. She insisted they greet her. We had to watch her because she would try to get on the UPS Truck😂😂😂😂. However she wouldn’t accept treats from them. She would only take treats from us. Not even when we went in pet stores. Our water meter guy pitched a treat over the fence to her. It lay there for days until we threw it away. It was something she did herself

Just fyi, dachshunds can move as fast as lightning and can be fiercely protective of their people and property. I mean ferocious, folks. Mine can tell if you're sketchy in a heartbeat and loudly gives me his opinion. Instinct, intuition and intellect. Smartest of the smart dogs I've had in my lifetime. So smart it gets eerie at times. He often tries to comfort me even before I realize how upset I am. He was still just a pup when he was dumped and found my doorstep. My first hound. If you want a real cuddler, one that mopes if they don't get their snuggle time with you, you need a dachshund. Buddy is an affectionate longhaired and a complete charmer. 💕

I had a chocolate lab mix who was a cuddler/comforter. She always knew when I was upset and would multi-attack: side-swipe with her hind end at the back of my knees to knock me off balance and bring me down to her level, then poke her cold nose into my belly to make me laugh, then when I was sitting down hugging her at that point, she'd lick the tears off my face. It was impossible not to laugh. She passed this October and (damn it, I'm not going to cry) it feels like there's a piece of my heart missing. I miss her Every. Day. She was the goodest girl. Give your baby a snuggle for me.

I'm in a different career area now, but I used to work off and on for UPS as a drivers helper for the holidays, and several of the drivers had dogs on their routes, which I didn't know about until after my first ride, so I started carrying dog treats in my pockets to give to the dogs as we got to a residence that had one, and the owners were occassionally home and watched the interactions between myself and their pets. There were a couple of instances where I had to defend myself against being bitten, which I was allowed to do, and in order to scare the animal off from latching into my leg I smacked it on the nose with my data pad, again we were allowed to defend ourselves from being bitten. Several of the dogs even climbed up into the delivery trucks as we were sitting there getting the delivery ready. There was another instance at a residence where the homeownwer had 3 dogs, one of which was deaf, this deaf dog, unknown to me, had followed me from the delivery truck, around the corner of the house where the door was out of view, and stopped behind me, I had no idea that the dog had followed me until I felt its nose, I had to stop moving in order to set down the delivery, but when I felt the dog behind me I froze, I didn't think at the time to yell for the homeowner to move the dog, and I couldn't just stand there, so I shifted my weight, and that's when the dog bit me. It was a scary experience, but I should've yelled for the homeowner instead of risking a hospital trip.

Growing up in the 80s our golden retriever would go between my dads and mom's house - they divorced and lived a few blocks apart. She was always back and forth between the houses following one of us three kids. Well, she eventually started taking herself over the small bridge to the next town bc she could go to the beach, which was right next to her friends at the firehouse 🤣 she was very well known. She even made friends with the UPS guy who would give her a lift back to the neighborhood. Sometimes us kids as well. Oh how times have changed!!!

My previous dog would get a treat from the mail person, then run around to where the back door was, and get a second treat. The mail person told us that he originally thought we had 2 dogs, and didn't realize that it was 1 dog running (faster than the mail truck, which had to drive slowly because I lived in a frozen tundra) around to the back of the house (My dog's fur was completely the same color, which is normal for the breed. That's why the mail guy thought it was two separate dogs of the same breed)

In the country it’s unlikely for that to happen. I wouldn’t let my dog just be out front in town with no supervision but I live in the country and our dogs are free roaming outside our house. We live in a smaller community as well. No one steals dogs because, for one they’d have to drive down our gravel roads that lead only to our house and take our dog 😅 We don’t live on the main gravel road but on some side roads that you’d have to purposefully take to find our house and we are mostly always home so we would know. And also we got big dogs that aren’t gonna let some stranger lure them in their car. One of them is too heavy to be picked up 😂 And they are our protectors they alert us if anyone does drive in who is not in a familiar vehicle. They know what all of my families cars look like, extende family included, and the mail or ups truck as well. The only thing I worry about is if some idiot comes onto our property during hunting season and shots our dog. Which actually happened to someone… they still don’t know who it was and they probably never get caught which sucks. They were trespassing and shooting towards their house, and “thought their dog was a coyote” 😐 And fled the scene after the owner got mad at him for shooting a supposed “coyote” in his literal yard. It was dark so the owner never saw what the guy looked like or was driving.
