He’s right. At the moment don’t do auctions on eBay. Just BIN with best offer. I sold several items in auctions, and they went for a song. I was totally frustrated that there was only moderate activity on high value items. Buyer market right now.

The gut should have gotten those graded. You will have dealers lowball if you don’t.

Grading only really helps if it grades high. If mint or really clean, then grade. If not then it can hurt the value if it grades low. Reason being is people will pay more with plans to grade thinking it will grade high. Say you have a figure you visually think is in the 8ish range, you grade and it comes back a 7 or 6.5, now it's not that rare and the value is locked in. Take same figure and sell not graded, people will buy it for more based on visual condition thinking it will grade high and be worth more.

I always find it funny the way cards and boxes can sell. For me if it isn't MOC or MSIB it holds no value, I don't collect boxes or cardbacks. When I was a kid I didn't look at the package as anything other than an obstruction that was keeping me from what I wanted and as an adult, I have no nostalgia for packaging.

Cash is king. Ebay is no guarantee. Sellers can return an item, stiff you for both the item and your money if they know how to game Ebay. You sell to a dealer you've got cash in your hand and you walk away. They get a hunk of plastic that they may or may not ever be able to sell.
