There are still alot of offline only players, especially if you happen to be an older player. He comes off as someone with good fundamentals from playing alot of FGS, but isn't terminally online so hadn't caught up to how to efficiently use the newer mechanics. The way he randomly burns out, rare use of parry outside of obvious cases, and lack of di or drive reversal supports my theory, especially since he's still winning without these tools and basically handicapping himself by burning out 10 seconds into rounds.
